They have a point about this forum being a toxic haven for trolling and shit posting in general. I agree and would love to see more productive convo here but at the same time, regarding steezus' being racist thread reaction, I mean what do you expect when you say something that comes off racist. He probably isn't racist but he did say something that if you substitute it for any other ethnicity, it would get called out just as much.

Like I said in the other thread I didn’t think they were gonna include the slap talk in the episode since I started with “you can cut this”. Was only gonna ask them if they’d be down to do the slap pals questions then it turned into a full blown conversation with me painfully rambling on with no end. I do sound like an idiot after a while and I didn’t expect to take up 20 min of the episode (I’d hate me too). Hit up Eldridge after the show aired since I didn’t mean to bum him out so hard, we’re good. Also yes I do hope to eventually ease up to Roger and dig into him with everything I got :-*

If skating was ever a professional job of mine I'm sure I'd hate this board a whole lot more. Even just as a casual user some of the trolling bums me out. That being said some threads are super rad like that fella thinking about getting a phd in the whatever section. No shit most people have enough common decency not to say random negative comments to a random person's face, but they still say it behind their back. While I agree that there are some toxic opinions being shared and trolls, but I think there's room in the skate industry for some kind of discourse and criticism. If there was an actual newspaper which reported on some of the bullshit happening around the industry, I'm sure everyone would hate them as well. There isn't, so we're just fed a narrative that everyone is a legend, every part is sick, and no one is getting screwed over.

I’ve been surprised, as a fairly new user having heard the reputation of Slap, at how progressive and helpful people are around here.
The Ben Raemer’s thread has a good discussion on mental illness and suicide. The Pal’s job thread has a lot of advice for people moving within or changing careers, lacking passion, feeling lost, etc... Just a couple examples of the positivity I see here.
Of course there’s trolling and unfiltered opinions, like anywhere on the internet with anonymity. I’m sure the YouTube comments section on Nine Club’s videos can be just as bad or worse.
A place like Slap serves a purpose of keeping a lot of skaters and the industry in check.
You want to see toxic? Go look at Thrasher Instagram comments, especially the ones on anything that has to do with women skateboarding.

I haven't watched an "experience" show but have watched about 80% of the 9club shows. Really enjoyed most of them.
Kelly adds some good hype and is generally really amped on the guys they have on. Obviously his video and 411 knowledge is good.
Roger has some great knowledge on the industry and being on trips and shoot which I like too. I just wish he'd speak up more, be a little more bold and drive the interview a bit. He has some good comments that seem to be ignored and not answered by the guest sometimes.
It's Crob's show and I get Kelly and Rog might not want/be able to take charge of the interview but Crob needs to up his research going in. Most of what he says is either "get outta here" "this guy" " oh, i didn't know that" "oh really" etc and waits for the guest to says something he can then ask someone extra about.
He needs some "tell us about the time...." "you had an interview about...." "whats you take on ....." etc etc
But anyway, I hope they can see the constructive comments that Slap brings. If they can't see past the trolling, they need to get off the internet.

I just watched the Slap pals part of the show and when it was mentioned Steezus's face looked like he wanted Slap banned from skateboarding haha.
I didn't see that much wrong with the Steezus thread but I do believe he had a few drinks and needed to simmer down with his black pride shit.
The Nine Club is all acting like they're above the law and cannot take any kind of criticism then will deflect and call anything thrown at them trolling.

Anonymous slap trolls posting industry truths despite how harsh they might sound is a great contribution to skateboarding. Its keeps it real and people involved accountable. It shows that there are consequences for being a kook, ego tripper or someone milking it. The one thing i worry about the 9club is that they may be starting to beleive the hype and compliments they hear.

I think that’s already happening, Roberts saying “we’re in the lime light” , “we’ve got our own show” “we’re into high production value”.

The amount of trolling here is low compared to 2010-2011 when people realized how easily Koston could be triggered on social media. I think there are occasional instances of taking things too far, but for the most part its just normal shit talk. I hate when people act like Slap is 4chan or something.
To me the real question is whether we as consumers have the right to criticize skateboarders for non skateboarding things. My opinion is if Chris Roberts can make money from a skateboard deck with his cat on it, I can talk shit about his post-2004 productivity. On the flipside I met him in person back in 2009 and I thought he was pretty chill, so I would be a dick to only bring up the negative.

the regular nine club shows aren’t too bad if the guest is a good story teller, but crob has to be one of the worst interviewers i’ve ever heard. they do have cool guests from time to time and i find myself revisting old episodes if i’m caught up on all the other podcasts i listen to. steezus really does bug me on the experience though. like during monkey mcpott’s call, being too cool to discuss SLAP so he decided to divert his attention to his fucking cell phone, and then complaining & calling him a “lingerer” after they hung up??? very professional, very cool. i’ve got a major affinity for the bunt, so to hear him bash those boys fucking irks me too; especially after talking about and saying all the suspect she that he does, i.e. kegels, grey sweats and how girls appreciate them, “i could do a kickflip right now but i don’t want to fuck up my shoes”, all his wack ass sex-centric jokes he tries to edge in, “smash that like and subscribe” nonsense that has regrettably rubbed off on the rest of the hosts now too. dudes just a major cornball. i also agree that eldridge is the male equivalent of the general dumb blonde stereotype, but i do find myself laughing at his comments more often than not.

Crob is in a tough spot. We as skateboarders are trained to look for imperfections, and are part of a sport that generally calls out bullshit. So when someone acts like they're Howard Stern, but they don't have the goods to back that up, there's going to be shit talk. And because Crob isn't willing to start doing research, ask follow up questions, etc. so he could be on Stern's level, he's going to continue to get shit. So he can say it's all trolls or hate, but deep down part of him knows that it's true, which is why I would wager he reacted so negatively upon even hearing about slap. Who wants to be constantly reminded of that thing that you know you should do, but don't want to?

I agree with everything you said except that C-Rob is in a tough spot. He's facing the same predicament everyone faces at one point or another in their careers: do I keep clocking in to do the bare minimum every day without taking advantage of the tools and opportunities at my disposal, or do I use my experience to hone and perfect what I'm doing and use criticism as a chance to excel? He's obviously chosen the former, and like pretty much everyone else who's chosen to milk it in their respective industries (especially skating), he's getting some well-deserved grief for it.
It also doesn't help that these dudes look at this as a technical endeavor, rather than a journalistic endeavor. I hear all the time about "production value" and how many cameras they use and all the time it takes to edit, but how many people here actually watch the show? Whenever I dive in, I know it's gonna be on my phone, and they could use all that editing time to, I don't know, maybe watch a few of their next guest's video parts, read an interview or something? It would take like, an hour of their time, and make the show much better.
So, in short: C-Rob, time to choose if you want to sink or swim. Bagley, you clearly know a lot, but working for Adio in the mid-2000s and taking some sequences of Joey Brezinski doesn't make you a gatekeeper for the culture. I actually don't have any beef with Kelly, and I haven't watched any of the experience episodes, so (thankfully) I don't have opinions on anyone else yet.

Yeah i don't know much about this either, but retailer usually takes almost half, and also the average price on their sunglasses is more like about $35. But they also sell through their online store. But the cost of manufacturing sunglasses is almost non-existent so the profits are probably still pretty good. And looks like they're doing alright since they have employees and a warehouse. They would have to move like 150 pairs per day to get a million in sales which sounds a bit much but possible I guess?

I have sort of thin skin and I don’t like criticism if it isn’t constructive.
I suffer with depression but it is manageable. Sometimes my depression spirals out of control so bad that I end up in hospitals on a hold.
My advice to anyone who’s feeling like they’re aboit to kill themselfs is SLEEP ON IT. Not with a belly full of pills in your stomache but at least a good meal and water.
And if you still feel terrible when you wake up call an advice nurse and just let it all out. Tell her everything because the voice on the other end has probably seen it all and know what to say to make people feel better. It’s literally they’re job to make people feel better although some doctors and nurses do lose sight of that over time.

No shit most people have enough common decency not to say random negative comments to a random person's face, but they still say it behind their back. I have sort of thin skin and I don’t like criticism if it isn’t constructive.
I suffer with depression
Sometimes my depression spirals out of control so bad that I end up in hospitals on a hold.
My advice to anyone who’s feeling like they’re aboit to kill themselfs is SLEEP ON IT.

I haven’t watched the 9club episode yet. But I will say this.
As a long time online lurker. There’s a certain code off conduct one must be aware of if they wish to engage in online discorse. Rule number 1 DONT FEED THE TROLLS. There’s a bunch of pissed of losers out there who get punch in the dick by life every single day and are looking for an outlet to spit pure hate that they have inside. if i was a visible pro skater I would go out of my way to avoid this place for numerous reason.
