i was thinking more along the lines like these...

with all due respect for the idea of making things more organized and efficient, i have to say this thread is providing none of the information i like to read and geek about that the threads and potential threads it is replacing provided.
like, i wonder if there is a new post in the THUNDER 147 Lows thread? oh wait it doesn't exist anymore.

Nobody likes to take these seriously, I guess.
-
tate fucking unlock those threads because we are not getting the info we want out of this new bullshit thread you have made. it was alot easier to just click on the thread your looking for than scrounge through this bullshit.
-
basically this entire section is strictly for shoes now. every shoe has its own thread but any other "gear" is lumped into one.
i don't know what organizational issues you're having but its really not that hard to leave threads open and let them run their course. they'll eventually die or get bumped back up when someone has a question pertaining to it.
-
Great idea (in theory) that would never work (in reality). You basically just took half the Shoes & gear section and tried making it into one thread.
-
Yo bro so like my snapback matches my kicks but my hoody is slightly mismatched and I'm freaking out. The Dunk Exchange is in 20 minutes and I wont be able to roll by Active or The Hundreds to grab a new hoody. Should I rock it and hope no one notices?

Let me know if i should focus this thread and un lock the other topics.
I guess an individual thread is what the people want.

yah do it...i mean keep it around for shits and giggles if you like, but you know bones bushings deserve their own place. :)

Does Brayden Szafranski have a shoe out anymore. He used to have a high and lowtop out. Now neither one is on the Emerica site. Hopefully he's just coming out with a new one soon.

Yeah it's called the "SZA". There is a pic floating around, somewhere on this site

This thread still exists, if anyone wants to ask more questions. Though it's own thread would get a faster response.

I'm considering buying a pair of Fallen Coronados- can anyone tell me how Fallen shoes generally size? I wear an 11 in Vans, 11 Nike, 10.5 Adidas, and 10.5 Lakai. Thanks in advance!

I got some Coronado's. I have samples and a regular released pair. They both ran true to size to me, Only problem is you might have to size up if you have narrow feet, it's tight on the toe area. But they stretched out since i skated in it. One of my favorite shoes out right now.
-
Excellent Tate, thanks for the info- I ended up going with the 10.5 so we'll see if they fit well

so i got an 8inch wide board what thread should i go to so i can read about arguing over indy and thunder. ive always liked venture and thunder but whatsup with indy lows? i definitely want lows. and also what size trucks? i dont like the frankenstein effect but i dont wanna feel awkward on skinny trucks either. its an 8in habitat thanks if anyone can help direct me, the search didnt work so well for the size question.

From reading posts in this forum i have noticed that Americans (i think) all seem to have child sized feet, like us 8 or something, why is this? Are you really hobbits?

Usually 13 if vulc, 14 if cupsole for me. Us big-footers don't get half sizes.
-
I always gotta choose between 12 and 13 because 12 1/2 is very rare. It makes buying shoes online a gamble.

I skated more pairs of thunders and I'm skating my first pair of indy's.
for me thunders break easier and sometimes don't do what you want to, but maybe that's the stock bushings.
I have these indy's for over a year and I'm happy with them.
my question:
Should i buy spitfire classics or streetburners for barcelona? and why?

What is the best cup sole shoes on the market right now? Can't skate anything else. Keep getting really bad heel bruises in vulc shoes . Thinking about getting some insoles but after seeing http://iancoughlan.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/footprint-insoles-review-the-amazon/ (http://iancoughlan.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/footprint-insoles-review-the-amazon/) Not down for Footprint/Game Changers. No heel support it looks like. Thinking about getting some Remind Insoles. my current set up is Theeve trucks and 8" Habitat board.

No idea what the best are. It seems like a lot of cupsoles today are very thin, or at least noticeably thinner than what what I used to skate in the mid-90s.
Right now I'm skating a pair of DC Dompierre Mids and a pair of 'eS Sagas. Both of the shoes seem to have decent impact support in the heel (gel/airbag) but the forefoot area of the soles are quite thin. Maybe not as thin as a pair of vulcs but definitely thinner than I would prefer. There was a thread about insoles that recommended Sof Soles "Athlete" insoles so I got a pair for the Sagas. They're real thick and cushiony but I would prefer a bit more stiffness in the heel and arch area. The stock insoles in the DCs are way better than stock STI ones but could be better.
Eventually I may just have to troll ebay for NOS skate shoes from the 90s and early 2000s or maybe try some of the Airwalk reissues that are coming out.
For insoles, not sure what I will try next. I'd like something with decent cushion over the whole foot but with some stiffness in the arch and heel. By stiffness, I don't mean hard plastic arch things that dig in to your foot like Superfeet and the like.

I need to try a pair of Dompierre on. They just don't look that good on the shoe wall at the shops I have been to.

I don't mind the overall design of the shoe at all. The suede in the toe/ollie area is nice and thick and I prefer mids. Lacesaver flap is a nice touch. They do come in lows if that's what you like. The colorways *aren't* my favorite, but they're okay. I have the black/purple ones and the two tone grey ones. I think the solid black ones with the white sole look the best. I can't complain too much about the colorways because:
1) I paid $30 for each pair w/free shipping.
2) I only wear them while skating and my pants/jeans cover my shoes. (Not down with the skinny jean trend)

Remind me to buy some DR scholls next time so I could get thicker gel pads and five pairs for the same price. Um and yeah conform to your specific feet? um... no.

Tate, (or anyone who could help) so someone gave me a pair of indy's with spitfire wheels and bearings on them. whoever rode the trucks last rode the shit outta the wheels, to the point that i have to rotate them. i haven't had wheels like this in a while, so i need to know which way to rotate them. they look like this (couldn't find a good pic online, so excuse my awesome ms paint skills)
i've been riding a new wheels for a while, so i kinda feel like a 'tard for not knowing this. (these wheels and trucks are for my spare set-up btw)
-
Yeah, that way will even them out, but is the coning really that steep or did you exaggerate?
-
Yeah, that way will even them out, but is the coning really that steep or did you exaggerate?
thanks Brian.
yeah, i exaggerated to make it obvious which direction they were coning in.
-
If the coning leans toward the inside like the pic, leave the wheels as they are. If you flip them it will make them more coned. Thicker part on the outside like the pic and the thicker part will wear flat eventually to be even with the smaller part on the inside.
-
I've always used spacers if they come with my bearings. When I rode cheaper bearings, they had no spacers, so I just went without them. Supposedly, spacers will make your bearings last longer because they give the bearings a more stable surface to turn on or something like that. One thing I've noticed with spacers is that the wheels stay locked down better, especially when used with the double washers (instead of 1 washer per wheel) that come with trucks these days.
anyone use the spacers that come with bearings? do they make a difference?

obviously, where im from theyre rivaling the janoskis in popularity, but try them on before you buy because i had to get a size bigger than most other shoes.
my mate got his first pair the other day and the first thing he said was "i feel like a race driver" which is quite suiting for a busenitz shoe

I used to "go busenitz" on the flatrail when I had a pair last year, drop in on the bank, push as hard as I could and smith grind and front board the whole thing, probably the most fun I've had on a skateboard

ha kinda same here, i always skate kinda fast but when im wearing busenitz i feel like i should make an extra effort to go as fast as i physically can, usually means that i cant actually do flippity tricks though, so i just end up doing super speedy big ollies off stuff or long ass board slides and manuals and stuff. i love staking that fast, but flipping your board at the same time is just crazy

hubba streetsweepers slim are all i ride. Really, really hard to flatspot. I cant compare to bones wheels, since i never rode any bones.

i dont know about flatspots because i barely ever get them but for sliding... some deathwish wheels are great for that shit, before i was riding some stf's and on average (on flat) i could powerslide like 3 metres or so but with the deathwish i can hit about 5-6 no problem

does anyone know what colorway these are?
at first i thought they were they grey suede, then i thought they were worn out lead leather but i just dont know

also... ive just changed deck size from 7.5 to 7.75 but ive still got thunder 145's and they look a bit "magic carpetish" should i get wider trucks or will i be fine with these?
-
If you can afford it get the next width up that you preferred manufacturer is offering, you'll probably notice that your board will be more stable and have a slighly better turn. Also if you continue to go up to boards of around 8" you still have some room to play with.
-
i wanna get a wider based truck for my next pair, like a longer axel and hanger, any particualarly good ones, im thinking thunder 149's?
-
^What trucks are you currently using? Thunder 149s are real nice and they grind so good, but they turn slightly different compared to 147s and way different than Indy etc. Actually I think Indy 149 has a slightly wider hanger than Thunder, like 1mm wider haha, they're both 8.5 axels though.

You're right about the lead leather Dylans, I've got them and the ollie areas/side panels are the same colour as that pic. I guess he sanded them down or did many, many impossibles to get the rest of the shoe like that.

cheers for the help man, and on the trucks thing...
I used to ride a 7.5 deck with thunder 145's and it was perfect, now i ride a 7.75 and was wondering if i should move upto thunder 147's or if there was really any difference
-
The next time you need trucks bump it up to the 147s. It's feels better, but there's no need to get rid of your current trucks prematurely. I was riding 8.25 boards with 129s for like a year it looks a bit weird but it doesn't have a negative effect on the way you skate.

It's a shame you can't just buy new hangers anymore, used to do that with indys. No breaking in new bushings or having to save up a bunch of pocket money.

gah, i'm so sorry, i'm such a nub. forgive me for my ignorance. so how do i go about that?
-
Your local shop should have replacement kingpins. Hammer the old one out and hammer a new one in. It helps if you have some kind of shop vise to put it in. Replacing kingpins is a pain because sometimes they're hard to get out. But it's not that hard.
If you can't get Indy brand kingpins don't worry, just make sure whatever kingpin you get is the same length as your old one and the head shape is the same.
-
thanks pal. i didnt even think about replaceing it.. bahhh
-
I'm pretty sure the Indy warranty doesn't cover snapped kingpins anyway
-
honestly, i've been skating for 2 years and have never fucked up my trucks(even flat spotted a wheel!), i usually just switch when i change board sizes. therefore, i had no idea how to go about this sitch. but thanks yall, preeshiate the help

you skate for 2 years and never heard about replacing kingpins? where do you practice your lazer heels, antarctica?
you did realize that you can screw your old trucks and wheels to a new deck, did ya? no need to buy a new complete whenever the deck is done...
-
nah dude. i've never broken a kingpin before.. shit. lazer heels? bahaa! yeah right. i've got the body of a troglodyte.. i'll stick to mini ramping and the occasional kick flipper. but no.. i dont buy new completes every time i break a deck.. haha where did you get that from? i've had one other pair of trucks that i handed down to a little homie because i was moving up in deck size drastically (7.75-8.25) i've changed wheels and bearings after they shitted out. i think that covers it? god damn guys, talk about superiority complex..
-
indy's are guaranteed fo' life right? anyone know where i send them and if i should send the whole set or not? my king pin is kinda snapped in half right about now..
If your baseplate or hanger breaks you get new trucks.
Go to the shop where you bougt them and they send em in.
Make sure you wear Indy kingpins for indy trucks.
-
the old indy baseplates (the ones with the holes) had a spot where the baseplate always broke. you could even use a towel (no marks) and a hammer to break it and get new trucks... (one of my friends could break them by hammering the board to the flat as well... free indys for years till they changed the baseplate...

so i went to the shop today, got a new kingpin, same one. the dude at the shop couldn't get it out. i don't blame him though, i spent almost half an hour hammering away and at the thing only to bust up my knuckle real good. i'm going to take it to autos tomorrow though and see what old mr. niles could do about it. thanks for the help d00ds.
-
I remember reading in Kingpin magazine that if you get a tea candle, light it then place under the truck suspended above two bricks you should have the perfect platform to hammer out the stubborn kingpin.

Rode a shitty convexed longboard with those once. The trucks are way too tall to push normally, it would be a bitch get decent pop but I didn't try that. I think they're made for a surfy feel but any shaky-loose truck will carve better than that POS.

I'm 6'4" 205lb and today i got a real deck that i loved for about 20min till it broke. Between p2, fiberprime, double impact, etc, which is the strongest. The last and only other time i purchased a "technology" deck was 2 years ago, it was a foundation with that weird weaved material and i didn't notice any difference in strength.

This is going to sound like a regular question after ten years of skating, but how do you properly measure the length of a board?
Do you push into the shape holding it flat all the way across the board or just measure straight across from tip to tip?
I swear different shops and company's do it differently.
The board I'm currently skating is labeled as 31.25 on the company's site but when I measure it, it is either a tiny bit over 31 or 31.5. Then there are online shops that say 31.1 and 31.12
???

Maybe try one of those Almost Resin8 8-ply boards. Real Reazy-c mellow concave boards are supposed to be pretty strong too, but they're few and far between around my area.

I have on my cruiser board, no problems they are very thin, grippy ( the sole looks smooth, but it has ridges much like fingerprints). But not durable, that said mine were the canvas upper non skate ones.

check out the fury evo2. i know fury sucked in the past, but they came out with a legit truck on this one. they come in 7.75, 8,8.25,and 8.5.
i switched from riding indys for 7 years to furys. i'm a really picky guy when it comes to skatestuff and wouldn't have done it if it wasn't a decent truck.

I had a friend that skated them and swore by the out sole. It is designed to grip against wet docks so if it could grip on wet surfaces then I think they'll do just as good on grip tape, if not better than most shoes.

I just broke another kingpin on my indys this week but I refuse to get thunders as a replacement but I was thinking of trying theeve trucks. i typically break about 1-2 kingpins a year and I'm the type to stick to a truck until there dead. I wanted to know if theeve are all around titanium, not just the axle or hanger, is the kingpin and base plate titanium too?

Bones bushings on independents, leave which washer off and why?
-
Bottom off, top on is what bones says you should do. But really you could do whatever.
-
Anybody get annoyed when the holes in baseplates grow wider and get deformed? it makes your mounting bolts get looser faster and makes your setup turn oneway if you recently landed primo.
I ride loose trucks so it ain't a problem, but i can imagine those odd tight truck skaters might get new trucks cause of the fact.

thanks, does it make a difference either way in how it turns or bushing longevity?

on the site it says the the TiKing http://www.theevetrucks.com/prod/prod_tiking-trucks.html (http://www.theevetrucks.com/prod/prod_tiking-trucks.html) you can also just buy that titanium kingpins them selves and put em into what ever truck
i skated a pair of theeves his..i was riding 147 thunder hi's and after a week a i had to switch back..the trucks grinded well just the king pin was so low for how i ride my trucks and the bushings would just bulge out cause the king pin is set low..i just might really be used to thunders

Recently I've been skating dekline shoes and bought a few shoes in bulk for cheap(I tend to do this whenever I am hyped on a company and end up changing) Once I'm finished with this batch of shoes I plan on trying out another shoe company. I would be glad to hear some input on some other shoe companies. I'm really into Vulc shoes and haven't tried cup sole in a while. What are some good shoes? I'm down with cup sole if they have a similar feel to vulc shoes. Thanks!! :)

I asked this on the previous page and all I got was kooked.
Out of the two shops I use one of them measures straight across and the other shop measures into the concave.
Also the length of a Chocolate board I skated which was listed on their site was the length measuring straight across while
a Krooked I had was the length pressing into the board on their site.

it makes sense to measure straight across, for effective length at least

Has anyone here skated in airmax 1's?

have several pairs of them, and have never tried it, but it doesn't seem like a good idea. the sole has those rubber nubs sticking out that are common on athletic shoes, and the heel is significantly higher. ankle rolls for days IMO, and the heel collar is not very padded, so there'd be some nice blistering on your achilles. Still, if you want to try skating air maxes, they'd probably be a better model than the air max 90's.
if you're looking for a "non-skate" skate shoe, try the puma clydes or adidas superstar II's (heavily recommend the latter)
why is it so hard to find phillips hardware? what happened to that bolt company universal hardware? is there some conspiracy to always make allen heads so they round out fast and require your to buy more after 3-4 board changes? am I the only person with this problem of unscrewable bolts and rounded out skate tools?

Tried skating them the other day, felt just how i imagined... quite nice but nothing on a real skate shoe. just skating them for fun as i saw them in my room and havnt wore em in ages so may aswell thrash em. holding up much better than i expected
-
I do this, too. Usually I'll buy like 3-4 pairs, not only is it cheaper but then I don't have to get use to a different shoe. I had some Deklines and they were good, right now I'm skating Es Edgars. Sounds like you might like them. Kind of have that thicker sole like most Deklines, but they're not heavy and you can still feel your board. Plus a really strong toe cap.
Thanks for the input. I remember looking at the ripped laces review of the Edgar and everything seems great. I wonder how long will the shoe be out though, because of eS struggle right now. On the other hand maybe I can get the shoe for a steal and buy a few pairs.. Do you suggest any other shoes that fit that description?

I know this is the epitome of the stupid obsessive question, but here it goes.
set up an anti hero board last night. skated 30 minutes of flatground. just goofed around.
four full pressure cracks appeared. I know they're inherent in any type of skating. but after a half hour of flatground? really?
has this happened to anyone so quickly? Is this too short of a time for that to have occured?

Are you using the bones mediums? Wouldn't your trucks be too loose? I'm thinking about having it flush cause the last set of trucks the bolt got threaded, truck was fucked. If it was flush it wouldn't of been a problem, but they'd be too lose. Maybe I need to buy the hard bushings? The thing is I don't have my trucks tight at all, but not super loose.
Yup, mediums. Not that loose in my opinion. and honestly its like a quarter to a half turn past flush on the back truck

I've never skated the fusion version - though I do have them in my closet; However, the regular square two is godly. Perfectly pointy toe, big one-piece toecap, pushed-back laces so they take forever to rip. IMO, it's pretty much a perfect shoe as long as you don't have to jump down any giant gaps.

In the end they're skate shoes. They will get fucked up but those are damned good shoes so if you're getting a good deal just keep the orange, otherwise you might make it look much shittier. Do you have an old set of Vans you can experiment with? Cut the threads and see what happens.
That orange is way flashier than I usually go for but is it really that bad? I could see getting used to it and actually somewhat like it, just wouldn't be my 1st or 2nd color choice.

Does anyone know if theres anything you can do about nike defects?
I bought some janoskis the other day and after 2 hours of light skating theres a massive hole in the side and the material is clearly weak and fucked. so any ideas on who to contact or what to do?

Nike always good with taking back defekted shoes.
I had some SB Dunk Low's a while back and they hurt my feet a ton after wearing them for 2 days, I sent them back to the site I bought em from, who then sent them to Nike who said it was my fault and then didn't send the shoes back to me (they were $80 fyi)
Also my left foot has never healed from them, my left big toe can bend significantly less than my right after I wore those shoes.

You guys ever wear shoes without insoles? These Janoski's hurt my right foot but when I take the insole out it feels much better. I'm probably gonna keep the insoles out until I fully break in the shoe. I'm not gonna be skating in them for awhile anyway. Skating in shoes without insoles is a living hell

has anyone tried the converse pro ls? they look sexy as hell. how's the fit on em?
-
^^^Just bought my second pair the other day. No break in time, very comfortable. They fit at least a 1/2 size big, maybe more. They have a great shape too them, not too pointy nor too round of a toe. My only problem is the bottom sole does not last as long as say Vans or Nike. But you can find them for hella cheap, on ebay too. Got mine for $25 shipped

A problem I had with my P.Rod 2.5's was that the shoe felt very tight and narrow on the forefoot, especially on my right foot for some reason, like you mentioned.
I took out the just to see what it was like, but it didn't really help. Especially with vulc shoes, it's pretty much unbearable to remove the insoles, in my opinion; there's just no cushioning and I'm not down with that...Not that the insoles in the 2.5s were very substantial to begin with.

The baseplate does seem to be fine. The kingpin itself just seems to wobble, as if it's hanging freely, yet somehow still inserted fully into the baseplate. If that makes any sense.

think a new kingpin would do the trick in this case, the serration is probably just wornout

G-Codes are cup so I'd go 11.5, Westgates are probably good at 11 if you like a snug shoe. Not sure about the hsu 2's

Ah, thanks. I was beginning to think that either the splines on the kingpin or baseplate were stripped.
Thanks for that link. I like how they include a kingpin with the baseplate. I don't know yet if I'll have to just replace the whole thing though. Gonna have to knock out that kingpin and find out soon.

soft- easier to turn but more likely to get wheel bite

forreal man i used to ride undersized tricks until i got a new pair and saw the light. its one of those things where you think you're aiight riding smaller trucks but once you actual ride some that fit your board you'll wonder why you havent done it sooner. you can get by riding smaller trucks but its much more optimal to ride trucks that fit your board. you get a better turning axis, have more room and accuracy when you lock into to grinds, and have less of a chance of getting wheelbite.

100 % agree. I was skating my Thunders 147s for two years, and I stepped my board size up to 8,5, and bought some Theeves 5,85, and these things are like miracles. After 3 sessions, I can safely tell, that I will never be changing it back. And on the side note, Theeves are fucking amazing, even those 5,85 that I have, turn quick as fuck, pretty much as quick as my old ass Thunders.

You're going to be Frankensteining a bit; it may or may not bother you.
However, Theeve's 5.5 is a 8.18 axle. I'm running this size on my 8.125 and it's perfect. The axle nut just barely sticks out, but I never really see it when I'm riding, and the wheels are still completely tucked under the board. Really, it's perfect.
Just throwin' that out there.

I had a pair of 149 on an 8.25 and it felt a little too wide for my board but I'm not sure. I ended up going down to 147 and they are amazing. I'll see if I can post a pic of that board.

Nothing.
-
what do bearing spacers do? ive never used them in 12 years of skating
try them and you'll see the difference
they allow you to tighten more your wheels nuts so you'll have a silent set up and long life bearings
-
They allow you to ride your wheels tight. When your wheels are tight no axel slip. You should ride them and washers...unfortunately, wheel sizes aren't always correct so the system doesn't always work....

Just keep it somewhere where the temperature is relatively constant, ie. inside your house.
A skateboard deck is exactly a precise instrument, like a guitar or a wood wind.

Is there a huge difference between slim and slim straight dickies? How skinny are the slims?
A big difference between the two is that the slim dickies are tapered as opposed to slim straight. I find it to be a pretty noticeable difference. For me the slims fit very skinny, but it's all relative.

wouldn't you want both washers in if you're trying to avoid wheelbite? Any added height would help. And switching those mediums to hard bushings would help a ton.

does anyone here ride the bones all terrain formula for a cruiser? how smooth of a ride are they vs the OJ hot juice?

My ace 44 hi's were the best trucks I had in a long time that weren't made by independent. sucks that not too many places carry them.
these guys always have them in stock.. yes its a long board shop. but hey always have aces.. and ace parts..

Yeah, I think I don't have quite the swag to rock those. I was looking for some pictures of them bolted on but I couldn't find them. Will most likely just stick with these http://bones.com/products/fall-2011/wheels/stf/pet-cemetery/ (http://bones.com/products/fall-2011/wheels/stf/pet-cemetery/)

anyone know the height difference between theeve 5.0 and indy 139 high?
-
even though i'm loving my busenitz, i've always wanted to try the original hsus. hows the sizing? i'm usually a 10.5, but they've only got 10s or 11s. a lot of the time i can fit into 10s if they're vulc. i've never had a pair of mids before, i think it's time to try a pair out. are they worth it?
Never tried the original ones but the Hsu II's are at least a half size up on the Busenitz. Wear out twice as fast too but they are pretty sweet.

Do any other companies make a truck in a similar size to the Independent 169? I ride 9" boards (I know it's ridiculous but it makes sense for me, I'm really tall and snap normal decks like there's no tomorrow) and want to try something else if I can for my next set-up.
Thanks
ace trucks has the ace 55 witch is a 9" truck

Thanks mane!
no thang.. heads up. ACE ride loose. witch is why i love them. bones medium.. no bottom washer.. nut about flush with the top of the kingpin. your trucks will wobble on their own.. so sick..
but just a heads up.. my ace's wobble.. and I'm a better person for it. (ace 44s btw)
ace's stock bushing.. sorta suck IMO.
Hmm... I'm not sure if I want loosey goosey trucks like that, I already ride my indy's quite loose. Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep it in mind :)
-

A theeve 5.0 will be a mid sized truck
-
I've been riding ACEs since I started skating again and I love them. I don't like oose trucks or tight trucks, I like trucks that turn.
ACEs are a truck that turns deep and responsively; how loose you ride them is up to you.
Bushing-wise, if you want to retain the stock geometry you need to keep the bottom washer in place (not sure how big of a deal this is as it changes when you tighten them anyway), using the top washer is up to you and your bushings.
The best combination I've found is either hard bottom BARREL bushing and a bones medium top or a bones HARD bottom with a medium top. The kingpin hole in the hanger is BIG, too big for Khiros, they will end up blowing out if you ride loose (mine did). If you choose Khiros, go with the aluminum inserts as they retain the stock geometry and don't need washers.
I tighten only enough to take up the slack between the hanger/bushings/baseplate, this usually means the kingpin nut is flush with the end of the kingpin bolt (think factory tight).

I get wheelbites a lot lately since I use medium bones bushing
Even with risers
Is there any way to avoid them? I ride 8 inch boards with 147 thunders
ride the yellow bone's bushings, with both bottom and top washers, the only ones you can ride without washers are the hard ones, i don't understand how the fuck people ride the medium bones bushings with no bottom washers, it feels stupid.

not true, just get smaller wheels.
i ride yellow on bottom (no washer) with blue on top. turns beautifully, you have to learn to avoid wheelbite instead of making your trucks less responsive

This.
You only get wheelbite in two situations:
1) you're carving REALLY fucking hard.
2) you're not landing square enough.
A lot of the time, I feel it's easier to land with looser truck because if you're weight is a little off, you can kind of carve out of it. However, with tighter trucks, you either have to jump off or kinda tic-tac like a bitch.
So, yea, smaller wheels, and keep your weight centered.

When the instructions on the bottle of bearings lube (Bones Speed Cream) says 1 or 2 drops per bearing, does it mean 1 or 2 drops per ring, or 1 or 2 drops for each of the balls inside the ring?
-

one or two drops per ring
-
Cool thanks... for some reason I always thought "bearing" (singular) referred to the balls themselves, i.e. "bearings" (plural) = the ring, so I was thinking "1 - 2 drops per bearing" = "1 - 2 drops per ball." If it's 1-2 drops per ring, a bottle of lube will last a lifetime, nice.

Ive ridden Thunder white bushings for years, before changing my trucks to Theeves, which come with Bones. But those Thunders ara amazing, almost as quick as Bones, so if you can fit them into Indys, I think you will be satisfied.

Can anyone recommend really good bearings? I've always ridden regular Reds and one pair of Shake Junt bearings (which are better than Reds)
I was gonna buy Super Reds with Bones Speed Cream and that thing that helps you clean your bearings. I talked to a guy who keeps his Super Reds going for 2 years a set by cleaning them.
I just wanna know if there are better bearings for the price? I don't really wanna drop a ton of money on bearings, I don't need to go super fast, I just want em go fast and last a while.
Rockin Rons?

super reds are pretty good. not swiss. but noticebly faster then normal reds (to me).. not sure they'll last any longer then normal reds though. if you dont wanna "drop" money on swiss. i would stick with reds. just clean em out every six months. or pop them shields and go nuts.

.......just ride them
It would honestly be more work for me to take apart my trucks, boil the bushing, and reinstall them.
If you are that concerned with break-in time, just buy bones bushings; they'll break in within an hour.

why? it's still skateboarding... Just a different type of board. Like a road bike vs. a mountain bike.
The more people skateboarding, the better. Not everyone has to ride them same way.

Get them. Only problem is the pivot cup tends to get fucked up, but other then that they're the best.
-
keep having problems with my back truck. it's hard to tighten or loosen, like it's hard to get at the kingpin nut. its happened to my last two sets of indys, i don't ride them tight so its not the nut sticking to far out. anyone else have this problem?
never had that problem. is it just like too tight to move, or worn down enough that you cant grip it with a tool?
i like my indys factory tighted. i never even touch the kingpin nut
-

I got mine from rummaging through your local shop's spare parts bin. Don't forget your spacers....
-
it's okay to move for now, but its like really hard to just get a skate tool on. it's like there no room for it, like it's the angle of the kingpin getting in the way. i haven't had them for that long either. my last ones got to a point where i could barely get the tool on, and then it wouldn't turn at all cause it was threaded/stripped aswell.
i think i'll just loosen them back to factory tight. they're already pretty loose. i've never had this problem in the past when i wasn't using bones bushings. fuck, i don't know. i'll just keep my shit really loose and hopefully i don't ever have to replace the bushings.
does everyone else feel that indy bushings get tighter as you break them in? theyre always like that for me

This is probably a dumb question, but what is the difference between SB Dunks and Regular Dunks besides the price tag?
Different levels/areas of padding. Different more skate specific insole, dunk mids are skate specific shoes. If you mean the hi's or lows then you could get non sb's and they'd be fine. Just some differences in the two.

-
Has anybody tried heroin wheels? How do they compare to STFs?
They are quite good I haven't flatspoted them, they are I believe made by Creative Urethanes which make wheels for Autobahn amongst others. This may have changed as them have changed their wood to DSM and perhaps have been offered to have their wheels spurced through them. Never ridden STFs though.

i remember reading somewhere on here that the spacers help your bearings last somehow. cant remember why but i was on the same shit but now i rock spacers just in case. doesnt really hurt to have em in there ya know?
and those metal rings are washers. their purpose is to reduce friction between that inside ring of your bearing and the edges of the truck & nut. its not one of those things that're absolutely needed but it would be wise to have them on

Reds or Swiss. Got swiss now, theyre almost a year old, and i swear to god they got even faster since when i started riding them. reds are damn good too. i basically gauge a bearing on how durable it is. just don't buy those cheap ass Halos. all 8 will shatter.
Reds are damned good for how cheap they are. So are super reds. And swiss are totally worth the money if you can keep your shit clean and well maintained.

I've had like 5 pairs of Busenitz's in a row now, but I think I might pick up the cieros next time to mix things up a bit

How well will Venture 5.8s and medium bones work with each other?

How is the fit on American Apparel tee shirts and the 3/4 sleeve shirts?
The short sleeve tees are weird, they change sizes in the wash and are very short.
All of the clothes I've owned from there sucked. I tried to like them because its USA made, but its honestly terrible quality.

Really? I go out of my way to find American Apparel shirts at goodwill. Super comfy! I think it all really depends on what type of shirt you get they have a ton of different cuts and materials on just plain t-shirts

They work well with my 5.2 lows, so i am guessing they should work well with the 5.8s

medium bones hardcores work on everything except tensors

has anyone experienced uneven feeling bushings?
I had bones mediums and they were great for a bit, then after a while leaning forward to turn backside felt stiff and leaning back to turn frontside felt really loose.
I bought a pair of indy aftermarket bushings cause I heard great things about them but after a while it was the same thing.
is there a way to remedy this?

That's your pivot cup wearing unevenly. New ones and you should be good

It depends on what you look for in clothes, all of the clothes I've had from American Apparel has either fallen apart or totally warped in the wash. They're real comphy but don't last that long in my experience. I try to buy clothes that last awhile instead of ones that may look better on me. It's just preference, I think really old shit looks better than new shit that looks better out of the box. I'm on my Levi 501 every day game.
It's all preference though, I'm not trying to sound condescending, jus clothes.
When you're at thrift stores try to find work wear brands (especially older ones, clothes have gone down in quality over the years) like Carhartt, Pendleton, Woolrich, Filson, and Wrangler, those shits are strong as heck.

What is the best way to change the colour of stripes on a pair of Adidas, that I am going to skate ? I want to go from orange to black.

Paint penn will probably do good, but be careful if the sued around it is colored since the paint may drip onto it, or you could sharpie it, let it dry then layer it over a few times, what shoes exactly are you doing this with (just curious)
-
I will be hopefully customising Black/Halfbrown Ronans, not sure if I can get my hands on the paint pens (may not sell them in the UK). The Sharpie may not work too well as marker pens especially black are not a true colour, may be a last resort or careful use of spray paint and masking tape.

What's the best way to make a shoe more form fitting? Would putting it in the microwave, then tying them tight and skate/walking for a while work?

I might as well slap (eh) the question in this thread, too.
When the axle on your Indys starts slipping, what do you do?
My 149 has a loose axle.
I've hit 'em up on FB/Twitter/email and got no replies.

Anyone know of a company that makes a longer griptape sheet? I got a board that's like 34-35 inches long instead of the usual 31.5 - 32. It seems like every company out there makes 9x33 griptape, it's all i can find. Got a sheet of black magic today and it was too short for the board, so that was a total waste. The only thing i can think of would be to buy a roll of grip, but i really don't wanna spend all that cash on a roll of grip just to grip this one board this one time, especially since the shop gives you a free sheet with every deck you buy anyways, it'd be a waste of cash. If anyone knows where i can find longer grip Id really appreciate it.

Ah, yes, looks like I'm gonna have to do that. Don't know about the randozzi grip job though, I got clumsy hands and have trouble getting a straight cut for a normal grip job as it is, if I were to give it a shot it would probably turn out looking really bad, haha.

indys and dont buy into that "there heavy" and if it really annoys you just get the hollows

They're really decent, but if you are expecting anything like SPFs or STFs, you will be disappointed. These are just normal wheels, no weird terrain formula to make them more slippery or whatnot, just normal wheels.

If you happen to have gasoline, soak your bearings in it. Works like a charm, for me. But who knows.
-
i used to clean my bearings with diesel , but that shit smells a lot and
people always thought i was going to get high or make molotov cocktails
nowadays i use johnson s baby oil, it cleans so much better , it s like having new bearings

Using water to clean em will not damage the bearing as long as you don't let the water sit in the bearings and you dry them right away afterwards.

Anyone tried the krux mahollows? I had a pair of what I think were downlows a couple of years ago, they grinned really nice, but the axels bent pretty quickly. If I'm correct Krux is under NHS with Indy but they're made in china, which probably has something todo with the shitty quality, at least with my pair. Anyone know if these mahollows are worth checking out, or are they still weak? I was also looking at ace's which look pretty nice, if anyone could describe the grinding, kingpin clearance, durability, etc. that'd be sick. I know aces turn really fast (which I loved in my thunders).
-
I fully back Theeves. A quick turn like ace/thunder but very stable and never squirrely

Any advice on trying to get shoes a half size to big to fit?

Had a pair of csx's, it was great until I got the bushing problems, and for some reason the mounting holes got REALLY mishappen so every sesh I would have to re-adjust and re-tighten them, but that was only my trucks, my friends tiax only had bushing problems. I've heard they've fixed the bushing problem for the lows, so once they fix it with the mids I'm all for it. Still curious about ace though, they come off as a truck more for vert when you look at the riders, I'd interested to know how well they skate street/park shit.

I've had ace and theeves and liked both. But prefer aces because i like the way they turn. They're really good trucks, stable and solid on grinding, but their response does take a little acclimation

I have ACE 33's, I keep them on my cruiser because they are perma-loose, very surfy quick turn but not stable enough for my old man skills. So far the only solution I've found for the bushing problem is changing out the pivot cups (khiro hard small), putting a bottom washer underneath bones hard bushing on bottom. Annoying but perfect after.

If I get a chance to snag some new bushings I could give that a try, problem is my theeves get super wobbly from the messed up mounting spots. I might just wait until the v3 design comes out to the mids, that way I don't have to mess around. Thanks for the info.

I just emailed Josh Stewart about this a week ago. He said Palace will be in stock at Theories in Mid-September. Other than that and Brick Harbor, you can go to Seasons or have your shit shipped in from Europe.

Seasons is out. Yeah I'll check out Theories later this month.
A word of advice, check every day until they are up. Palace goods will sell out entirely on Theories within 5 days of when they are up. At least thats what happened last time.

I've heard so many different things on this topic and I want a straight answer. Are thunder 149's and indy 149's the same? But I saw the thunder 149 lights and bought them instead. I then saw the thunder site and for 149's they say they are for boards 8 and up. Is it 149mm like indy's, or is thunder regular and likes to lie about truck size? Why can't all truck companies go by the same units of measurements. Sorry for the rant

I don't think spacers actually do anything.. I've skated 10 years without them and have't had any problems.

While we're on the topic of spacers, how many people here use them? I recently bought my first pair of swiss which had spacers, I didn't use them, though.

the bearing seats are too wide so the bearing doesn't stay in place in the wheel. when I skated Spitfires that happened to me on almost every set I bought.

Mandatory before I select a board. I like to know the true length, width, wheel base, nose/tail length and the amount of kick the nose and tail have as well. It's a little overboard, but I'd rather know A board is right for me, than wasting money on a board with weird dimensions.

What trucks beside ventures would you recommend somebody who rides tight trucks (in the 90s people would have said I ride lose trucks, but nowadays everybody is shocked how tight they are)?
I would like to have a second pair cause the wheelbase thing with ventures kind of limits my board choice too much and I have some decks here with longer wheelbase and a few steeper decks that are probably not best ridden on high ventures.

Well either. I think aces are a bit less stable. But I guess it can depend on how hard the bushings are

Personally I think Ace's can be more stable in certain situations, but Aces were designed to be a really carvy truck and they flourish when you can experience that. Indy's obviously can be very surfy as well but in my experience tend to be more stable on center than Ace so I would then assume that they could fare better with firmer bushings or torqued a bit. Indy firm bushings are quite firm whereas the consensus with Ace firm bushings seems to be that they are not that different.
Honestly you can torque anything to be pretty tight and not wheelbite with the right bushings. Even if you like your trucks tight I'd focus more on where you might want the turn and stability.

I feel like you can still make any truck turn more easily or a lot stiffer / tight truck feel with a good quality set of bushings, not always related to the brand of the truck either, eg you don't need to get Ace bushings to have Ace trucks work well.
That said, I feel like some bushings are a lot better than others, just with how they wear in and how long they last too, so I guess it is just down to whatever you have available to you in your given area to try some and see what works for you.
Some people just try to tighten normal bushings down too much, which doesn't really get the desired result most of the time and can often cause the bushings to split or cause other issues for the trucks, but at the end of the day, what someone says works for them, as in the perfect combo, might not work for others.
