Easily one of the most deserved episodes. Fuck Jason Dill!
Kalis is a member on here.
Fuck Jason Dill!
I actually thought Kalis had a really good response to the whole Dill "beef". I think he could have probably grilled him in good conscience but he didn't seem too focused on it. Great skater, great dude can't wait for part 2
I don't see much depth, value or credibility in the opinion of a spoiled child in an old man's body.
aw snap. when the east is in the house...
also if dill didn't offer up his theories on field and stream we might not have these episodes, so it's all good in the hood.
I need a Kalis board!!!!
Dill should never speak. ever.
This episode was too good, thanks odell.Glad to hear sheffey is doing well, never knew he and kalis were like that.
And from all the feedback for upriver and downriver, I'm not sure that it was intended as a bad thing. It just came off that way.Although if someone else made the distinction it might not have stirred so many people up.People speak out of their asses all the time, I'm not gonna hold it against anyone. We've all been drunk or whatever and said some shit we didn't mean or think about. It goes both ways, I don't know either dill or kalis in real life so I'll reserve my judgment.
Can't wait for episode 2.
This dudes been my all-time favorite ever since I was 12 years old. I remember buying a 411 and there was a Alien industry section. Kalis had the last part, skating in Love to some grimy ass hiphop. Keeping it street.
I have the vhs copy that came from dna, such a good montage.Expand Quote

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcqWUFa0jaU#)
Clips like that of Dill make me like Alien less and less, and Clips like this of Kalis make me like DGK more and more.
I'm not really understanding all this Dill hate. Everyone acts like he was just blatantly talking shit in Kalis which I don't see to be the case. It's obvious that workshop was kind of split between the hesh/art (AVE for hesh, Dylan/Dill for art) kind of skating and the fresh/tech (obviously Kalis and Dyrdek) skating and to me that's all I see him pointing out. It's not even like he singled Kalis out, he said the exact same thing about Dyrdek and Mikey Taylor which is that Workshop is definitely headed into a different direction than when it was new. It's way less east coast street rat style, which is why there's no more Pappalardo, and Kalis just happened to be one of the last hold outs that decided it was time to leave. It's just two different styles of skating, and I don't think Dill was saying that one is any better than the other. And how can you guys sit here and say that Dill should watch his mouth and censor what he says, when everyone praises Kalis for being balls out and saying how he feels? Obvious double standard and I think anyone in the limelight should tell it like it is for the most part just to keep things genuine and weed out all the bullshit.
On a side note Kalis is sick and I really liked that episode and can't wait for more.
It seems that a shit storm has been started by an off-hand comment, then perpetuated by a bunch of knitting circle bitches.? If you guys had actually spent any time with Dill you'd probably change your tune. How many pros do you know hand over the majority of their pay check to look after their family? No discredit to Kalis, he's been killing since that 3 flip in heavy metal. But seriously, this shit has been blown WAY out of proportion.?
Dill thinks he should be paid to be a Skate Philosopher/Drug User.

That shit was awesome. Some of my friends and I took some of the Seek dudes around Detroit showing them spots during the Trisect tour in 2003. I don't know if you remember that tour, but it was AWS, Habitat and Seek. Kalis showed along with Flo, Alex Carolino and Greg Myers. When asked where everybody else was at, he just replied "getting fucked up". Of three teams, the only dudes that were down to go out and skate in a new city was Kalis and a bunch of ams trying to come up. Dudes a skaterat for sure.
Kalis dorking out and getting hyped on Sheffey remembering the time they skated together back in the day is priceless.
And to those just hearing about this Dill thing, he said MUCH more than that first clip shows. He talks shit about him not skating on tours or some shit too, it makes it very clear by the end that Dill definitely means what he is saying as an insult. He did have some sick shit in that 411 industry section though

People just have different philosophies of life. Dill lives differently, and Kalis lives differently. Both Dill and Kalis should realize that nobody can project himself as he would like to be seen by others. Sometimes people form an opinion of you that you wish would be different. Kalis and Dill should realize the shortcomings of human beings and let go. In the end, they both need to respect each other for their love of skating.

I was watching kalis in mono thing today and I just realized how amazing that fakie flip after the switch flip back tail was. Even though me and Oyola had our differences... he still is and always will be one of my favorite skaters.yeah man, you guys seem to both be past any sort of 'beef' that was ever there, which is rad. i actually found it pretty surprising how serious it was at one point. i guess phily just has, or, well, had a pretty tightly knit scene. it's also pretty rad how much differently you guys skate LOVE alone, and yet you two can both appreciate one another's shit.

Imagine Ricky saying these things more like a big brother. I can remember learning flip tricks when the older guys were there. They would give you props then tell you "now you have to do them right" meaning popped and solid.
haven't you guys ever been an asshole before?
Now we know the beef with Ricky was only ostensibly about some girl. The real issue was switch mongo.
The real deal here
though is that there we have about 3 minutes of never before seen
footage filmed in 1994 that stands up to most of what is being filmed
today. The fact that Josh has been in skating publicly for almost 20

I seriously find myself finishing an episode and feeling the need to immediately watch it again.
The fact that 100% of the comments in this thread are positive is mind boggling to me. The fact that this is the most hate-filled skate forum and yet every1 is feeling these episodes speaks volumes. Some people just have it... Josh Kalis seems genuenly nice and to top that off, he made an account here haha, rad...
Is there a DGK video coming?
While we're on the subject..."N-n-n-negative" haha

Big thanks to Jamie for being apart of the episode.

I tatted Kalis on my neck
Yeah i remember that shoe "the truth", i had just turned 14 and gotten my first paycheque from dishwashing at dennys. My parents were never rich so they would always get me some shitty sport check or sport mart shoes to skate in, so i went from that to these pristine 160 dollar Josh Kalis pro models. I was hyped at the time but a year or two later I was thinkin, man 160 what a fuckin ripoff. These episodes make those worth every penny, Kalis is the shit, deserves every penny. Also a few years ago seek came to town for an appearance or to judge a contest, only dudes who skated more than five minutes was Kalis, Flo Marfaing and Alex Carolina, so sick. On another note Greg Myers tried a nollie crook down a baby hubba, smoked him dome, and started crying. He was real young, but it was still funny.

This definitely brings up the argument about "robotic skaters." A dude like Lennie had the wildest and most unique style, and it was awesome. If he came out today, he wouldn't be able to get sponsored with that style.
...pretty sure I have posted this story before on here but it is relevant to this thread. back in like 98/99 Lennie would be in New York skating Newport a lot. He would usually roll with a bible. My problem isn't people doing "hammers"... Its expected.. and i like seeing people push themselves.
I actually like the "who did what" rumors... and i like the fact that if you lay it down on some famous shit.... someone should respect that

^^^^ HAHAHAHA my sister loves that movie. perfect context to drop this
Watching this makes me really nostalgic for the time when large groups of skaters could congregate in a downtown spot. It already feels like such a different era from the one we're living in now.
When I think of how we used to regularly have sessions with 30 or 40 skaters at one spot for hours at a time, it makes me realize how different the reality is for kids who started skating in the "it's illegal everywhere except parks" era.
I see this series winning a Sundance award.
I'm probably wrong but from the outside it seems like no one is allowed to do anything outside for fear of a lawsuit, fuck i could go on about this shit for too long.

I don't know what the fuck you guys are talking about, I still do the downtown thing pretty often. Whoever told you it died is just out of the loop. Sometimes getting chased by cops is fun.You weren't around when it was awesome, so the ashes of former glory still seem cool to you. Sure there is shit to skate, but its not like there is "the spot" where everybody hangs out and skates. I remember back in the day you didn't even need to call anybody. Living by Chicago I knew that on any nice day, I could go to the art institute, post office, or a few other spots and I'd find friends to skate with.

"continuedin part 7"
Amazing episode. Hands down the best epicly laterd I've seen. Episodes are really touching. I started skating right around when Mouse and Trilogy were coming out. First skate trip I took was to Burnside (which was dumb in retrospect because we could barely skate it). But after that because of all the hype that Josh and Stevie created my friends and I went to Love. It just seemed like an awesome skate spot and a mecca of sorts. We went at two weird time (unintentionally). Once when the 76ers were in the finals with the Lakers and a second time when the RNC was there.
The skating was amazing there and the locals were really fucking cool with us (even though it was clear that Love Park was blowing up behind just people who lived in Philly skating it). We saw Josh, Stevie, Anthony and Maldanado skate. And it was just so relaxed and chill. Skate for like 30 mins. Sit down, talk, watch some amazing skaters just kill it, get back up and start skating again. Did that every day for the whole trip. And that's how it was growing up and skating. Ten or so of us at one spot for hours. Just chilling and skating. It's awesome to see a pro who still connects with that. Very inspiration episode from a man and scene that inspired me when I was a little skate rat. Awesome episode Patrick and Josh. Thanks.
That episode reminded me of this old DC ad. It was a two page ad of the whole team looking straight forward (I remember Kalis, Dyrdek, Howard, Carroll, Danny, Colin, Huf and I want to say Caine Gayle). Anyone have the ad scanned?
This was by far my favorite episode ever.

I have that poster signed by the whole team except for Danny Way back in Amsterdam during the DC Euro Super Tour
That said, me and a buddy spent 5 hours bombing all around downtown Sacramento last night. Everything was skatestopped, we got kicked out of every spot within 20 minutes, yelled at by security guards, honked at by traffic, hassled by cops, panhandled by bums and it was STILL a fucking BLAST.
So, the downtown experience - although a bit different - is still there waiting for everyone. But they gotta get their lazy asses out of the park.: )

Leave the park? Show me one street spot where I can smoke weed, do countless fly outs and practice my k-grinds all in the same location and then I might be interested. Besides, skating outside of a skate park is really exhausting.

pretty sure it's all the b roll footage - most of that was barcelona stuff and it was incredible
Whatever, old man!You weren't around when it was awesome, so the ashes of former glory still seem cool to you. Sure there is shit to skate, but its not like there is "the spot" where everybody hangs out and skates. I remember back in the day you didn't even need to call anybody. Living by Chicago I knew that on any nice day, I could go to the art institute, post office, or a few other spots and I'd find friends to skate with.Expand QuoteI don't know what the fuck you guys are talking about, I still do the downtown thing pretty often. No, you're totally right - although the "liability" thing is just an excuse. In my lifetime, I've definitely seen our society get more and more obsessed with controlling personal behavior of all kinds. The two bulletproof justifications for this are always the same:
1) we could get sued
2) we have to protect the children

Yoooo...thanks Josh,
Thanks for all the cool ass replys! Pretty hyped on the response from the series. Its a bit weird putting shit out there thats all intimate and shit.
But all the replys here... the emails and facebook messages i've gotten from both colleagues and fans have been incredible. Big thanks.
Tonight is the last episode. Im being told that it should be pretty entertaining. Im guessing there is a Chicago thing, the change from AWS to DGK, ect. Not sure how long it will be and all that.... but im pretty excited about it.
i hope this episode lasts foreverwe all have dreams...
Got a good chuckle when they talked about all the kids coming down to love rocking the DC jerseys and shit. Still have one of the ones that josh is wearing in the episode, pretty cool haha.
never saw this before..Ive never seen this either and its awesome to see some Kalis footage from a local spot.

So good, Josh. I'm so excited for this next episode. The LOVE park ON Skateboarding was on constant repeat in my DVD player, soitsit's cool to get more stories from that era.
Yo Josh, what's your technique to doing 360 flips. I'm sick of all these yo flip trick tips.

I'm gonna be honest. I was always kinda iffy about Kalis. I never hated him, but I wasn't really a fan, you know?
A mixture between crack and meth
Does anyone else feel a bit iffy about AVE now....I dunno i feel like he came off looking like a fake ass dude, going from corn rowed thug to the fonz, how the fuck do you do that??

We all go through phases, AVE is a sick dude
The scene with Kalis, Dyrdek, AVE, Gall, and Atiba all in the same room made me all giddy.
And for the 2nd time in the series, Stevie Williams made me want to cry.
"Pshh, say the word."- Stevie about putting Josh on. The best line I have ever heard on a Later'd. Such a "Fuck yeah" moment. I love this shit.

As far as that company i was going to do... i could never let the cat out of the bag on who was going to ride with us..
Fuck... now i feel like i shoulda asked Stevie for 20k!! lol.
AVE is still one of my favorite skaters.
That old contest footage was ridiculous... i had no idea it even existed. But yeah.. the mall grab at the end was fucked!!lol.
The "deal" that Dyrdek sealed for me was a baseball card style thing that never panned out. Those toy deals were coming and going for a couple years.... but they never come through.
My technique on 360 flips... i really don't know. Its pretty much just a timing thing. Like both legs just need to be in sync. I put my back foot on the edge of the tail.. not in the pocket like a lot of people these days.
It was funny as hell to me when Dyrdek brought up the Slap board. He always gave/gives me shit for peepin it. You know.. funny style.
The M3 just stays pretty much stock. It just has some lowering springs. After i built my Camaro(69).. i quit dumping money into the daily's. I also gave up street racing once i moved out here.. they crush cars here from what i hear.
I could never look as natural on a board as Mark Gonzales. If i can still have a career at his age.. i'd be stoked. Much respect to the Gonz. I love watching his cruise through NYC videos Fat Bill does.
Word up!! Thanks again for the compliments... it really does hit home.
Oh yeah... i will add that Chicago was WAY harder to skate 10 years ago when the Terminator was around. Too bad i wasn't able to tell those stories. Downtown CHi is pretty cool these days. Especially on the weekends.
Love was always good... but we did have to deal with the skate task force on the daily. WAY back we could skate all day with no problems.. but 99-2004 it was hit or miss.
And NYC is always good. As is Frisco. The Island is my new favorite spot these days.

Hahaha. I'm so hyped you are talking about terminator. That dude was a legend amongst bike cops. Even if cops were gnarlier back then I never had jail time threatened for skating the city back then. Like 2 years ago I was about half a breath away from getting locked up overnight for skating the Wendy's bench. Of course, I just turned 18 10 years ago, and the older you get the harsher they are.
You ever meet that one with "jesus saves" letters and a cross on his helmet? I'm pretty sure he has a nickname too. He started lecturing some friends and me about how we were sinning against god for skating. Then my friend gave some smartass remark, he tried to cuff him, and we all booked it out of there. Lucky for you... you never got locked up for skating. I've seriously been locked up for skating 20 times. The craziest time was the "Big Chase" at the Art Institute. Most of us just tucked a shoulder and blasted through... one homie got hemmed up and smacked the guard in the wrist with his board. Broke the dudes hand. when me and the Ruta's got away.. we were walking on the underside of (forgot the street) bridge heading into lower Wacker. A cop was crossing our path. ...wow man your actually an idiot, why the fuck shouldn't he have nice stuff...god knows he has worked hard for it. I don't think you understand what happens to a man when he has a kid, that shit becomes priority over everything. Gotta get money to provide for your family.
is larry clark making a movie on jason dill?haha god damn that would be something
Ah hey Kalis, do still keep up with Auttiesh Danger? That was the main homie back when I lived in Phoenix. Haven't talked to him in a minute though. Aight, gonna quite lurkin', drink some coffee, eat a red bean bun, and go skate around bangkok now
I think the fact that kalis posts here shows what side he's on.....you think berra and dyrdek have 'time' for this shit?
I have no problem with Josh. He should just own and embrace his upriver style. Nothing wrong with it, just don't act like you are straight out of a Larry Clark flick.
Kalis,
Not trying to blow up the spot or anything, but I've got to echo what other people have said: Boston is the new Philly/SF/Barcelona. There are plenty of weekend warriors at Eggs, but most of the week it is super chill. It's right across from the police station, but only the state troopers hassle us.
Between Eggs, the pier and it's proximity to New York, I would say Boston is the best skate city alive right now.

Josh, if you ever want to quote multiple peeps:
does this mean the whole deathwish team should commit suicide?
...pretty sure I have posted this story before on here but it is relevant to this thread. back in like 98/99 Lennie would be in New York skating Newport a lot. He would usually roll with a bible. One night, Poppalardo was there too...Lenny starts talking to him about the bible, Jesus, whatever. Out of nowhere, Mike Wright (the USA Mike Wright) throws his bible into the East River
