Has anyone had experience with this shape? Any thoughts on truck widths for it?

I had the Metal version of this. Virtually indistinguishable from the Primitive/Heroin/Krooked 9.1 egg, and I found 8.75 axles to be perfect (AF1 60s in my case)

Thanks!

How do the eggs 9.0-9.25 (8.8/8.75) over the trucks skate compared to the eggs 8.75-8.9 (8.5 over the trucks)? Only ever skated the 8.88 sym egg, fried egg, and gold egg, which are all 8.5 over trucks. All were some of my favorite boards I've ever skated.

Currently looking at getting the 9.25 sym gold egg. Never skated a board that big so I'm kinda nervous. I mainly skate transition and curbs and i can make most boards work there. More nervous about the flatground.

If the shape of the fried/gold eggs didn’t throw off your flatground too bad I don’t anticipate the 9.25 egg will. For me at least, the width of going to and from eggs is less jarring than going from the feel of flicking the board on a straight popsicle to a tapered egg.

I’d say give it a shot - if you don’t like it, I’ll gladly buy it off you.

I went from the big to smaller and I preferred the smaller . I feel like maybe bringing the trucks size down was what made it feel a lot better moreso than the board. My friend skates the 9.2 primitive egg on 149s and it feels really good.

When I look at them from far away it hard to tell them apart. When you put the smaller one over top of the bigger one it looks like it’s hardly even different

Anyone know the trucks size needed for the 8.6 Hockey egg ?

Dimensions are 8.6" x 31.16"
14.15" Wheel Base.

Most eggs people go down 1/4" or approximately one size in trucks, so if an 8.6 popsicle would usually have 159 Indy, 6.1 Venture, 151 Thunder, 60 Af1, etc then trying 149 Indy, 5.8 Venture, 149 Thunder or 55 Af1 trucks might be the best bet.

That is to have the wheels approximately sitting on maybe 8.4 at the axles with fairly normal sized width in wheels and it would work nicely.  Add washers to the inside or take washers out for preference.

Going down to an 8.25 truck might be a little too much, but I have seen people do that before, even though it felt way to tippy for my liking.

From looking at that shape, from the few places that had it, I would say the 8.5" trucks should do well, but that is just me.

Brimson you are the GOAT man, always willing to throw out knowledge to help a brother or sister out. I’ve been feeling “tippy” with my last egg shaped deck I bought and was curious if they all feel that way.

Ha yeah - it is skateboarding, so I am happy when I can help people, more than anything else.

As to the board being or feeling tippy, I notice that a lot more on a board that sits wider than the trucks, but it can also be just down to overall truck size, so when I am on 8.5" wide / 149s and up, everything feels much more stable, than when I am on 8.25" wide / 144 or below, on similar size boards, so for that one you asked about, I think 8.5 trucks would work well.

I was very stable on the 8.12 deck on 144s when they came out, but a lot of people don't want to have trucks wider than the board, hence going down a size, especially on egg shaped boards, where the trucks tend to stick out or are way more noticeable as the board tapers towards the kicks.

Some boards you just have to try either and see what works best though, so I guess if you had trucks of either size already, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but if you were putting a board together from new and needed to order parts, then it can get a little more tricky.

Hope that helps anyway!

:)

How crazy does the Heroin 10" curb killer feel? Ive been riding the 9.4 egg now I really like it. I thought I would jump next to 9.75 egg but that 10 egg is tempting as well.

I love the 9.125 egg with 8.75 axles, it's one of my favorite setups and I've ridden a bunch of them over the past few years. I recently stepped up to the Black Label 9.5 egg with 9.0 axles and it feels so much bigger, I didn't really like it tbh. I can only imagine the 10" would feel gargantuan (maybe fun as a one-time novelty tho)

in my experience anything over 9.5 feels pretty much the same. at that point its just big. a 1/4th inch difference isn't noticable anymore. but thats comparing the 9.75" and 10". im on the 9.4 now too. i think switching to either one of those will feel the same.

Skatewarehouse has a new blank egg. Anyone know who's pressing these? They used to be clutch, but I don't recognize the new laser etch logo. https://www.skatewarehouse.com/Skate_Warehouse_Premium_Blank_Deck/descpage-SW77SWDK.html

The etch narrows it down as it says MFG in USA so Clutch is probably right. Looks like a nice shape. 14.2wb was a good call as 9.125 trend more towards 14.38 and up. I'm thinking of the Heroin 9.125 shape that started it all in particular.

Is that new HLC factory up and running in USA now?

They all have 14.2 wheelbases.

Just a thought anyway.

Lots of other sizes in width, much the same length and wheelbase:

I was tempted to get this deck . I love a 9 inch egg but I'm worried that this tapers in a whole bunch at the tail. Has anyone else had experience with the moonlight  shape from madness? Tried to find info on the net but no luck. So here I am.

I feel like that picture is very much out of proportion, especially the top view looking down.

From seeing other posts / shop pics and more about that board, yes it does taper a bit, but not quite like it shows from that listing.  Never seen one in person (that I can recall) but I have seen a lot of Madness boards on sale, as well as those older Blind reissue shapes which look about the same, so it depends how much you want a bargain, or what trucks you are putting on it.

This one has a pic of it set up, the back trucks looking fairly ok still, nothing that sticks out too much anyway, but the guy does say the tail is too small for his liking and he got something with a big wide tail, so it might be ok if you do want an egg shape, not a fish or popsicle shape:

.

I posted this in the Twin shapes thread, but also adding here, in case people have experience with one or both of these boards:

.

Has anyone skated the DLX egg 9.12 shape?

I have seen it around, as per link below, which is stated to have the same kicks, but nowhere it says is a twin shape, so I am guessing it is a normal press board, different kicks just the same length.

The Generator GFB shape also 9.1 egg is also in that category, maybe a twin or at least has the same 6.6 kicks, but it has slightly different dimensions, 14.38 wb and under 32 in length, so guessing it was slightly different from the go but is fairly similar overall though.

WHEELBASE (IN):   14.5

Thought I would have a go anyway, so totally went all out for this one, just to really make it fun.

Might have gone a little too far, but it is what it is.

Also posted in the twins thread, as it is definitely a twin.

Nice egg there @mbrimson88 :-)

Did you guys see that Zero put out a batch of egg boards?
https://zeroskateboards.com/collections/decks

Since we’re cancelling James Cole, I wonder if we have to boycott Zero?
Sick looking boards though.

* From that Insta post below, someone said Cole is off Zero now anyway.

Interesting dimensions on those - almost the GFB shape, or even that similar shape to the board I had just posted, but I wonder if they are actually the same or a very close shape, they got done themselves.

Only 20 so as shown a "small batch" indeed.

Dimensions: 9.125" x 32"
Wheelbase: 14.375"
Nose: 6.75"
Tail: 6.75"

https://www.instagram.com/p/C98s2rxv-IH/

Speaking of my board, someone else was keen on that same one and got one too.

I ended up going with 159s and 50 mm wheels, which felt way more normal than the smaller wheels on wider trucks.

Seeing double now:

I know that modern egg shaped boards are their own thing, but is there anyone else who lived through 92/93 that can recommend a deck that emulates those egg/footballs?

The DLX Flyer shape is an OG football and from what I understand an exact copy of Kelch’s Flyer board from ‘93. AH, Krooked and Real all put the shape out occasionally with different graphics but it’s not consistent.

Black Label has some pretty authentic looking football shapes as well.

I started skating in ‘94 so just missed the boat on shaped boards.

I can't remember the last time, but they definitely sneak it in there sometimes. Also, I think Kelch is selling an updated Flyer graphic on the actual DLX flyer shape. I got a couple last month. Such a classic shape.

I agree with you on Black Label. I didn’t know that DLX keeps the Kelch Flyer in some semblance of a rotation. Thanks!

I can't remember the last time, but they definitely sneak it in there sometimes. Also, I think Kelch is selling an updated Flyer graphic on the actual DLX flyer shape. I got a couple last month. Such a classic shape.

Oh cool! I didn’t know Kelch had a brand. Do you have a link?

Shoot him a DM. I think he has a few left.

.

These were the most recent DLX egg shaped boards, as far as I can tell anyway (besides the Huffer shape, which comes out a lot more regularly) which only just came out here in Australia, but have been out for a while / maybe sold out in USA, but at least still worth a look if you are chasing a Flyer shape:

Before that was this one too, just in case you want to look:

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
