just set up the 2nd of my Villani eggs from the 2fer deal and immediately noticed that something seemed off. Got out my tape measure and confirmed that the front truck holes are drilled 1/8" off-center. Gonna take it out for a spin tonight to see if i can notice it, but i feel like it's going to be a thing of mind-over-matter and will always bother me. I wonder if it's because of the extreme taper which causes the inconsistency in QC? I didn't notice this on the other deck but now i'll have to go double-check that one. It's slightly noticeable here in the photo, much more apparent IRL

[close]

That sort of thing is usually covered under warranty.

Can I also use this in the Woodshop thread?  There was a conversation about this happening the other day.

Also did you note where that one came from, if the sticker said made in Mexico, China or USA?

Thanks.
[close]
It's definitely BBS/Mexico. I actually wound up having a fantastic session on it, and now that it's worn in a bit it seems less noticeable. I don't often venture into the woodshop thread except to check out a new brand, so I'm not familiar with the specific discussion on this there, but feel free to share.

Thanks.

More than anything, it is just one of the many issues with boards, regardless of woodshop, but it does still happen.

I know I have had a board given to me from someone else who swore the holes were drilled incorrectly, but when I measured it up and checked, the holes were straight and the deck had moved in the cutting process, so one side was wider than the other.  It still rode straight, so that was not a problem.

Boards that do have holes drilled incorrectly, as per another one on the previous page (as per link below) meant the truck sat on an angle and made the board pull to one side, which is a different issue entirely.

Hopefully you have the first one, so that the board will still skate well, rather than always ending up going to one side without you wanting it to.

Yeah I didn't test out the turning hypothesis, will try that next time i'm out. But i'm fairly certain it's related to the shaping due to the big taper on these eggs and not that the holes are crooked

Monarch Project Diego Botan 90s Shape Deck - 8.375 x 31.6 x 14.20WB (resin 7) mellow cave/steep kicks

I skated in the 90s, I don't recall '90s' shapes being eggs, but that's just me.

8.375" slapdab in the middle
8.1" over the front trucks
7.9" over the rear trucks

I guess I expected closer to 8.125/8.25" over both trucks...planned on running 144/148s but that's going to be monster truck territory on the rear...guess it's thunder 147s or 8" ATGs...

is the wb really 14.20 as listed? i know it's not much of a drop from .25 but seems out of the ordinary? maybe not though!

@iw0

It measures true @14.20 - it's [current] Deedz [enjoi] shape but with wheel wells. 14.2 is a bit odd, but NHS does 14.1" and 14.22" all the time/consistently.

Lining things up, it appears I can get away with 144/148/44s without axle nuts sticking out too much. Way too many truck options...royal, thunder (I like a longer wb usually, hate wheelbite but that was the goal with the wheel wells to ride thunders with it)...been on an indy kick for min...ace 44 lo...

I feel like the "90s egg shapes" were really only around from some brands between late 1991 and almost all done and gone by 1993, with boards quickly becoming more popsicle shaped from mid to late 1993 and less egg shaped.

A few brands were way more into them from start to finish and kept them going for a while longer, but other brands didn't really do that at all, going more from square kicks to rounded kicks with not a whole lot of egg to them.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I did ride quite a few acme slicks back then…channel were for sure more egg-like; the acmes I remember riding still had squareish tails and more angular noses…but had the middle egg bloat.

I distinctly  remember having a couple of New Deal, Underworld Element Footballs/ Eggs but yes, it wasn't long before board shapes shrank to the full on popsicle.

New Chico Egg out this Friday looks pretty representative of the era.

Also, @Freelancevagrant That set up looks beautiful

I had the Salman Agah rocket queen and Mike Carroll nevertrend which were both true eggs/footballs, and after that everything was pretty much popsicle. But I also rode both of those decks for several months each

I had the original orange vendor board back in the day. So this one appeals to me even more.

$75 for the board. And for just another $25 you get 48 mm F4s and socks. Not a bad deal. If Chico wasn’t so hung up on 14” wheelbase, he’d be getting some money from me.

Currently skating 8.5” trucks and was hoping to stumble across an 8.75” egg.  Just ordered the board.  Down to support Chico for sure.

Supreme x AntiHero 9.18”

Crosspost from setup. Should be a fun new curb board. These trucks will not die, I’m deep into the axle on the front and rear truck. Considering Ace AF1 55s for my next trucks on this board. I didn’t love my first pair but willing to give them another shot

Hyped on the 8.75 Gerwer Grimplestix Egg, great shape, great concave! Gerwer is the sh*t, so no brainer here. Set up with old 8.5 Indys and 56mm Powell Dragons.

Chico Stix 8.75”
Tensor Maglights
55 mm F4 classics (down to 52ish)

Shape looks good.  Nose and tail look decently smaller than the Curren Caples egg/football shape I was skating before this.

My daily drivers are Quasi 8.75 popsicles so I've been really interested in trying their egg/football shape. That 13.75 wb scares me though!

Nice, I've actually got a pair of the same sitting around collecting dust.  Had been mulling the idea of keeping a smaller setup on hand.

Man, I'm a huge Heroin fanboy but the symmetric Egg graphics where the egg is mirrored don't do it for me. A symmetrical 10" egg sounds great but I'm too picky about my deck art to ride this.
