Were Heroin the first company to make egg shaped decks?

No way. Eggs/ footballs were a wonderful stop over on the way to popsicles in the early 90s. I’m pretty sure other companies reintroduced them before or around the same time as Heroin. The Huffer for instance. Heroin have certainly gone above and beyond with the variations and celebrations of this most treasured skateboard shape though.

There's a nice little history recap on Heroin's site. http://www.heroinskateboarding.com/blog/2020/10/20/egg-history The first Shimizu egg was in 2016, and then it built up from there. Not sure when the first Huffer came out, but it was around the same time I think, maybe slightly later. Of course, these are all just rehashes of that brief window of egg shapes in the early 90s. Can't remember anyone else really doing it in earnest before 2016 tho.

Heroin have certainly made the biggest name for the "egg shaped board" in recent years, but I think 1992 - 1993 was the main time for those sort of shapes, as said above.  I had a board from around 1992 from The Firm, which was to me one of the most influential shapes I had skated, which took me from 80s squared tail ramp skating to 90s street and mini tech skating and I feel like that was the single most progressive and fun board I had.

Things got very tight from about 1994 onwards, so there was minimal change and interest in "shaped boards" for the majority of the industry for a long time after that, but some people still made different boards, which included egg shapes or punk points or whatever else.

From my post, on the Huffer shape in this graphic which may have come out around 2008 - 2009 going by past catalogs and info, which at the time was so weird it was interesting, but I just couldn't set it up at the time, but being on clearance and seeing something different, I thought I would give it a shot.

Post:

I bought this deck a long time ago, maybe around 2010 from a clearance bin in Lodown, a Sydney skate shop and sat on it for a while, then passed it on to someone in need, who skated it for quite a while before it was retired and came back to me. It was going to go on the board wall, but then when I bought the trucks from eBay last year, I set it back up with some of my old wheels from maybe 2005 or so.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I love that the first Huffer graphic was a reference to his first pro model in Black Label in 92(?)—which also happened to be football shaped.

Yeah I was stoked the Cardiel Label board was reissued too, but I don't recall seeing any come out here besides the normal RRP of $149 or more and they sold like hot cakes, but I never saw any of them back in the day either, so the Huffer is pretty much the only one of that shape, besides The Firm deck, I still have and have skated.

At least seeing some of the pics and video from back then, he sure did get the most out of it.

Adding this here too, cause I would imagine some people would be interested:

https://www.instagram.com/generatorskateboardistribution/

New in house shape we just whipped up.
The “GFB” 🏈 These are in production and available soon!
9.125 at widest point
6.625 symmetrical N&T
14.375 WB
31.875 Long
Skates like an 8.5

Looks sick, wish they’d made it with the huffer wheelbase. Add .4” in length.
14.75” and 32.275.

You can get one of these blanks, for $26, direct from Generator.

Shipping is only $26.42…

Is that Generator deck the same as Frankie's Primitive Egg?

After seeing his new part I was curious what the wheelbase is on his board or the dims in general?

Similar overall but the Primitive Egg is not symmetrical.

Specs show different dimensions but generally they look like this:

9.125 wide
32 and a bit long
14.3 ish wb

Super small tail on the one I saw in a shop, but some people like that.

This is a decent link with specs, pics and info:

As per the Heated Wheel thread, this one would be good here.

Also looks a lot like the last two in question.

Won this deck in a raffle Fos put on a month or 2 ago. Gave me an excuse to get some Ace 77s and set up a Christmas complete.

Took this out for a curb session later in the day and the 10” egg is wild! I usually run the 9.4 and this is so much bigger. Also had to get adjusted to Aces as I’ve only run Indys for the last 3 decades.

This thing is a boat but it’s a blast.

Heroin Curb Killer 3
Ace 77s
Snot Snellings 56mm
Reds
Shop grip from Embark

Cheers man, super keen to have a roll on it and see how she goes. Had the egg set up as a cruiser ages ago on 149’s so never really skated it how it should be. Just playing the waiting game with the weather now

Got mine today.  3 of them.  Not sure what kind of shots you guys want but here’s one prior to setting it up.  Will set it up this evening.

The other two are orange top/green bottom and yellow top/brown bottom.

Really like the shape in hand.  Final judgement will come this weekend when I get to skate.

And to concur with ish_wav, the wb is definitely closer to 14.25 than 14.375 on mine.

How are you guys measuring WB? From the closest edges of the bolt holes instead of the center of one bolt hole to the other might make the 1/8" discrepancy you're getting.

for my personal sanity, you measure center to center, not tangent to tangent, correct?

Have always measured center of hole to center of hole.

I feel tempted to get myself an egg shaped board next. Last one I rode was a Polar that was 8.75 if I remember correctly. I rode Huffer for a bit but it just feels way too long for anything else than transition. Heroin's boards look interesting but the price tag seems kinda crazy. Something between 14.25-14.5 wb should be good. I ride trucks between 8.5-9".
