This kinda blew my mind to think about. Makes way more sense for today’s world too. “Oh so and so isn’t as good as your homie who did X at Y? Well he can’t sell shit and they can, that’s why they’re promotional”

What does Am mean in this new configuration?   I guess if they’re getting paid, they’re truly not amateur

"it was crazy to see this level of skating in a FREE promo vid back then" -  I mean, not really! mid/late 00s was rife with free promo DVDs...Roll Forever/Life & Times, Bueno wizards, IPath Summer promo... I remember watching It's Time only once because I thought it was pretty weak in comparison to everything else that was available for the same price.

Yeah idk what the hell he's talking about. He's delusional or just quite uninformed.
Roll Forever I got with a board I think. The Brent Atchley pro vid + extras DVD was a freebie with a mag or board. iPath was a mag or skateshop freebie.

Yes, it was a cool thing getting a new dvd "free" often with a magazine at the time but it wasn't exactly uncommon.

At least here it wasn't- Sidewalk UK mag were including plenty of DVDs FREQUENTLY, starting with Subject to Change in 2003- three years before they gave It's Time 2006 with an issue on release.
DVS Dudes Dudes Dudes was another in 2008, got a Logic video, a Puzzle Mag video, Rock Adio, a fuckin' double feature of Shorty's How to Go Pro + Landscape's Portraits lol - odd combo on one disc, Strongest of The Strange 2005, Girl- Hittin' Britain + oui will rock you. And that's just he ones I can think of from Sidewalk alone.

Meanwhile....well .....years later and not totally related... I had to pay about $40 for the Zero DVD boxset to get a copy of "PROMO [2006]". Well that and to replace my long stolen Misled Youth VHS. Have you tried buying a VHS player in 2025? I haven't.
But yes, Sierra Fellers is ridiculously good.

I bought a VHS player, or a VCR in the parlance of the time, for Christmas 2003. They were very nearly gone from stores. It was the only one they stocked at the big box store as DVD had fully taken over. It was for sure under $100 and it smoked my $600 VCR I bought on a credit card in 94, which had finally given up the ghost earlier that year.

My first VCR was a VCR+ like 18 inch CRT TV combi unit my parents bought me for my bedroom.
Dodgy scart port/ cable in the back meaning that if I wanted to play Vice City or THUG I had to push the tv against the wall so that the cables would mash into the port.
I used to record episodes of Friends on morning tv by just starting it and leaving the 2 hour+ tape recording while I went to school then come home and rewind to line it up to start the following day's recording at the end of the previous episode.
Also I absolutely rinsed our VHS of the Terminator 2 slightly extended cut with about 10 mins of readded scenes - my Dad had recorded it with his VCR when they first aired that version on UK TV and had managed to edit out the majority of the advert breaks lol. I watched that thing about ten times a week as a 13 year old.

1. i cant believe sierra fellers has shooters, millennials will really cling on to the most milquetoast skaters they remember from when they were teens
2. jamie’s right re: kicking sierra off but also clearly losing his mind and should not be this involved at 50
3. its time was free with thrasher and far from the first free dvd (roll forever and the ipath promo were 05, its time was 06) but i cant imagine anyone lining up to pay for it

Sierra doesn't dress like Reynolds or like Wade D, jus blue jeans and a logo tee but I never thought of him as milquetoast from a skating perspective - even if I get where you're coming from.
For sure he had some standard-but-super-talented footage but he also has a good and distinct wide legged style with some real unusual tricks at times. Switch Inward heel beach stairs, regular bigspin heelflip boardslide a handrail, great nollie big heel but didn't play it out like toothpick did, nollie flip bs boardslide and kickflip crooks rails, great tweaked switch ollies + other switch tricks.
Fucking great switch tre in this @2:47 in this:

And a switch pop shove down the Bastien barca triple set.
eta: I just rewatched his Circa part after the Cataclysmic Abyss part and he does what I thought was an NBD I wanted to see done: nollie bispin fs lipslide a handrail. No slow mo, just there in the part.
He was also throwing nollie heel fs shifty, regular bigspin heelflip and a laserflip down the Pit 4 blockback then. Some not-at-all-standard stuff:

i first met Sierra back in the day when he was a little kid in Pensacola.  he was a cool down to earth kid with a good head on his shoulders, I can't imagine that changing too much to make him a "kook".  His family was just into some weird religious evangelical stuff, but i would think Jamie would have related to him about that, unless all of his god stuff is just more marketing, who knows.

Sierra ended up being pretty run of the mill style and image wise, and I think the original poster is right in questioning why he got dropped.  Jamie's answer is lame as always...trying to justify cool-guying some little kid off his team, but then again he is the guy that sued some other little kid for having the nerve to quit.

I think you just needed to look harder. They were still making VHS until 2005 and probably still selling them until 2010. Can't speak for the whole world but I remember VCRs being everywhere at the end like the post office and newsagents etc were even selling cheap ones.
Anyway I don't give a shit about it's time but am jealous of some of the free videos mentioned above. We got like killself and billabongs "hits from the bong"

Jamie doesn't even need to do this lol...which i find funny, he cant help himself. the title is clickbait because he was on mystery not zero, would never have had a full part and they would've used the best clips he had up to that point in a montage.

this comment made me laugh

'@jamiethomas He was so much better than Lindsay. He should have been and still be on the team. You can correct a mistake any time. He is still ripping. He can pull off am even better comeback than Forrest. (Always will love Forrest footage). But you need to get Sierra on the team ASAP'

Damn wish I could get someone to hold me down as much as that dude holds down Sierra fucking Fellers, this VCR discussion has got my interest piqued though,I’m prolly gonna have to replace the behemoth that’s been used the past 20 years, I will prolly be scouring goodwills this weekend in hopes of finding a decent one I can watch my old skate video and etc on, was also surprised there was a store near my work claiming VHS, VCR, computer parts, will prolly go in there at lunch to check out what they have as well
