It took me a long time getting used to fs slappies (I only get to skate once a week right now) to get confident enough with the mechanics to try them.

I approach like a regular slappy, but I

1- hang my heels off even more than normal, and

2- get way lower, I stand up too much, so getting into a sitting position as I hit the curb helped me a lot

After that, it’s a fs slash with finesse, you still have to let the front wheels hit first, but get hard on the heels and carve/twist into the smith position while pushing your board ahead of you downcurb a bit.

I turn 39 in a week... Haven’t skated with or filmed with anyone since I had a kid nearly 6 years ago or been to a skatepark in about 3 years. Two years since I’ve skated when the sun has been out due to my job working throughout the night. Had a flip phone until two weeks ago...

I also drink n smoke reefer 24/7, everyday begins and ends with me drinking, even during my lunch at work. I’ll kill a 6 pack of IPA’s before I put any food in my system daily.  I’m not bragging or proud of it but it is my life. With that said I’m still happy, content, and surprised with what I could still roll away from on the board these days under my circumstances. Would like to stop drinking but those withdraws.. damn. Also, part of me doesn’t really care because even if I did sober up n skate rad who cares? I’m almost 40... is it even worth it to push myself that much to skate? I have other shit to handle.

Anyways, at 4am in between beers stopped at this spot on a whim to wax it up n try to skate it. Initially wanted to gap to lip but I’m too much of a sissy to commit. Poked a few to tail then it worked out. 20 minute session, went home, made a meal, crashed for a sec, went with wifey to take kid to kindergarten meet n greet then passed out... this is my life. I love skating.

Turned 39 last month and have a kid, so I sort of know the drill, however your job and lifestyle sound much more demanding. If you can do Tailslides on sick spot under those circumstances, I am sure you could go to places by controlling the substance use.
