Baker 4 coming in August

Well kids, you now know what it felt like when Plan B “Questioable” dropped and Powell was releasing videos llike  “Suburban Diners”.  In this case Baker is Powell and that Milton Martinez part would be comparable to Pat Duffy in Questionable.

There is good inspired skating in the Baker video (Baca, T-Funk, Figgy)but holy hell is that Baker era fucking over.  They’ll never recover from this, the illusion is blown. 13 fucking years and this is what they fart up? I mean not that it’s bad but these are supposed to be that top guys and some of them are phoning it in. (or not even bothering ala Nuge)

I understand they weren’t trying make the most gnarly video ever (admirable enough) and we’re going for a more low key thing but...it just didn’t work. It came off as laziness with a lot of the dudes.  The partying has affected the partiers skating sorry Dustin but it happens, it’s happening to me right now but Skating isn’t my job) and the sobriety has perhaps affected others more (made them and their skating boring, forced even (although technically they were throwing down , no energy, it felt like a job...and not in the good way, more like they had to do to.

That is except for Baca, who took his job seriously and TRIED HARD. Much respect.  His part ripped but he couldn’t save the video alone. (T-Funk charged hard too) The thing is after watching this..remind yourself that for the past 13 years most of these guys have been living a large life off of skateboarding and getting fucking  paid and really all they have to do is put out a solid video part.  Most of them should fire themselves into another line of work.  It’s disrespectful to all of us who have to work and scrounge  for time to skate for these dudes not to take their epic job seriously. It ain’t gotta be groundbreaking but it should be FUN and this felt like a funeral dirge for the 2000’s.  There were better videos than this coming out 25 years ago.  Figgy ripped too to give credit. He’s just not my kind of skater hut he earned his check.

The bottom line is Baker doesn’t know what in the fuck IT IS anymore. It happens to all companies but this was kind of a shocker. The piss drunxs / sober squad  / new kids in the block thing don’t work. It’s a mess.

One more rant.  The godamn NAMBLA hugging at the bottom of the stairs after every mediocre trick (and some true  bangers) save that fuckery for when it is warranted! You know when it’s warranted? At the bottom of Milton’s kickflip into Sunset Carwash. That’s fucking when.  Go watch Milton’s part and see what someone that WANTS skateboarding looks like.  Thai shit will be forgotten like Powell 8.

It's almost like skate videos can't be as impactful in an era of heavy single parts getting released individually, compared to an era where we got 6 or 7 major videos a year. I mean, in 2005 the other big releases were Skate More, Lost and Found, First Love, and New Blood. The only solo parts back then was the Kalis in Mono stuff put on the Habitat-Regal Road and the BA part in Super Champion Funzone. It's just a different era. No skatevideo will ever be as impactful as Questionable, or videos like Baker 3 filmed 14 years ago. We witness progression way faster now.

This video was good, and one of the better full lengths of this decade, especially for a team the size of Baker.

Ahemm, it was Return of the Jedi don't you dare confuse the two. regardless of the ewoks that was a damn fine masterpiece as compared to The Last Jedi or anything Disney has butchered.

As far as the newest iteration of Baker 4 hmmmmmm I agree it felt rushed/lackluster, to be more specific it felt like a sequel that left more questions than answers.

T-Funk, Kader, Baca, stole the show and Justin Figeroa he held it down, I enjoyed seeing some cameos of other characters.

I get the feeling of Pretty Sweet ala full parts from unknown skaters and mediocre parts from longtime riders. I think Reynolds is putting the newest riders in the spotlight and to me they aren't cutting the mustard or just aren't trying anymore, much like Zero has but hasn't been Zero since Chris Cole left.
