Nice Touches
« on: July 17, 2019, 06:41:19 AM »
What are some things in clips that make them just a bit better. Not necessarily anything to do with the skating itself.

Quirky things like catching your hat if it flies off in the middle of a line and finishing the line.

When the skaters clothes match the spot.

No push lines.

Good audio editing.

Something unexpected popping up - maybe the skater gets some trash caught on their wheels, maybe they have to yell at someone to get out of the way, maybe they check their pager. It keeps the mood light and reminds the viewer you're watching skateboarding in an unpredictable environment.

Smiles.

I love when you get some random member of public watching a trick and looking bemused.

Seeing some of the battle on a particular trick. Not so much that it takes over the clip...just a little to let us know that some work got put in.

I love it when the skater looks at the camera kinda shocked that they landed it. Makes me think "Hey they're human just like me  :)." Here's an example at :34

Zooming in on the skater as they use their fingers to map out how they're gonna do the trick. It's helpful for me to visualize it before seeing the actual clip.

It's fun to see hardware fall off someone's board but they keep moving regardless. I like to see a broken board roll-away as well, it's natural. I get the feeling certain pros wouldn't want that sort of footage included, like Felipe Gustavo for example.

Powerslides after landing a trick can be a nice visual treat. Best example I can think of is BA in Yeah Right after the smith grind, where he powerslides into the fence, board goes through the fence, he gets up and walks off all cool. That's almost better than the trick.

Unexpected slappies are nice - Aaron Loreth in 30 Away is a good example.

Riding fast and loose, watching the trucks wobble around.
Someone on here had a gif in their sig of (i think) a nollie pop shuv down a drop and when he stomps it there's a huge dust cloud that looks a bomb just went off
on the commentary for the scene where jeremy klein rollerblades at that little skatepark he said the actual blader with dreads who was there came up to him and asked him if he listens to korn

A 5 mile run in and of itself is pretty damn impressive, with or without airpods.

I don't know if I ever noticed before, but the only difference between the word "touches" and the word "douches" is one letter.
That letter is the letter "d".
My name starts with the letter "D".
I think you see where I'm going with this.
