Hahaha, one rail only?
My cousin had the OG PE one and I used to drool over it as a kid, now at 37 my prayers have been answered. Such an iconic graphic! I'm really stoked on it

That Chris Miller graphic is so cool!. Kinda curious about those China pressed habitat, I enjoy habitats wacky shapes, would cool to try them on some super crispy wood

Haven't taken it out for a spin yet because the grip ripped when I was getting fancy with my griptape job :o (will post pics once my new sheet of grip comes in)
Hopefully get to at least go for a cruise on it tomorrow, it's going to be a big step up from my Magenta 7.75
Radial slims look fucking dope but they actually don't feel like 54s cuz they're so slim, even my worn down 53.5 PFCs look bigger (I'm sure it's just an optical illusion though).

hahaha I know right? I was looking to size up from 7.75 to 8.0 - 8.25 max BUT
a) I've been in love with that Miller board for years now so when the reissue came out I knew I HAD to have it
b) Welcome reckons it tapers and thus rides like an 8.25 (any pals chime in on this one?)
c) I'm old (and thus won't be doing any flip in/ flip out tech)
d) I must have ridden way wider decks back in the day for street skating and it didn't phase me then
Will post a pic of the grip once it's up and running. It's not some super tech/ hipster grip job or anything but I think a few of you will like it ;)

Yeah, the taper affects the size (feeling) of the board. Usually the board will feel like whatever size it is near the trucks. I had a Welcome that was 9.125 at it's fattest, but it didn't feel any different than my usual 8.75 decks, cause that's the size it was near the bolts.

I had the first graphic with that shape, and I have been riding 8-3/8 or 8-1/2 for about 6 or 7 years now.  It felt like an 8-1/2 to me.  The big difference is wheelbase, it's loooong.  Made it harder for kickflips but better for things like 5-0s on a ramp/bowl.  You could really get behind it and felt more surf-y.

You can say that again!
Initial thoughts on it:
So I've had two little sessions on it now and I'm having serious trouble popping because of a) the wheelbase b) I'm not used to the thunders yet (was on indys for 20+ years). It's a great board to cruise/ bomb hills on so hopefully it's just a matter of getting used to because I want to be able to use this for my regular (street) board but it's really messing with my confidence at the moment. Oh yeah, here is the griptape job:

Probably needs more pink/ leopardskin print but I'm happy with it!

Whenever that BA pool-ish shape drops I'm going to get going with my first big set up like that, so what size trucks and wheels should I be looking at? I'm usually on some 51s so to me 54 is a big wheel. I got no frame of reference.

159s will work due to the way the shape tapers. Wheel size = ride whatever you want. I believe BA is riding 159s and 53mm on his... I plan on setting one up with 159s and 54mm...

i can see how that set up might mess you up....thunders plus extra wheelbase=extra long wheelbase......I skate an 8 in the park but have an 8.5 for rougher spots and ripping around my neighbourhood.....I have another 8.5 for ramps too....pretty much as you get older you are prone to build boards for no good reason.....I try and have some purpose.....used to laugh at the quiver guys but now I am one....

^ Don't be discouraged dawg, it's probably more the trucks than the deck. Little changes in WB do make a difference, but new trucks will definitely take a minute to get used to. Give it some time for yourself to adjust and I'm sure you'll be having fun on it soon enough.

Couldn't wait anymore and set this up today.

the timing on ollies can feel very different between thunders and indys. it might be getting used to new trucks and not wheelbase thats fucking you up.

I know that feeling of having a board feel very off. I try and embrace the new advantages: if the board is longer, maybe it's more
Fun for bombomg hills etc. No matter how much I remind myself that at least I'm not at work, or doing chores or whatever, at a certain point I will flip the fuck out until I can Kickflip, switchflip, and 360 flip. One of the many reasons I suck is that I'll just get stuck in that loop instead of moving on. So. There's that.

The wheelbase fucks with me. Nothing fucks with me more than the different leverage points that changing trucks causes. The timing fucks with me on a core level. I don't care, at this point, about not landing a trick. I do care about feeling like (and then looking like) I've never skated before. Thunders make the wheelbase longer. You are riding a board that has a longer wheelbase already, now it's more so. Good news is that you have an 'excuse' (for you) to not land your normal shit and just cruise. Maybe that's why I switch boards up all the time, it's almost like I'm relearning how to do a nollie flip or whatever. New setup: some tricks leave, others appear. Always.

Steve - Which Chocolate did you go with? Stepping down to 8.125? That probably feels like a freestyle board to you!

Clamy - Another killer Habitat. I'm with you brother, just can't quit 'em.

Imp - Nice work, I might totally steal that grip pattern on one of my next boards.  ;D

This is what I'm messing around with this weekend -

Chocolate 8.125 w/ Indy 139's and 52mm classics
Baker B16 8.475 w/ Indy 149's and 52mm radial slims

I've been skating an 8.25 the last couple weeks on 139's so I've been gradually moving down in an effort to get some consistency with flip tricks.  Overall it's worked.  The Baker is just in case I hate the chocolate and want to have something closer to my regular shape to skate.  Also, i think it's the best shape overall for me but you can't beat how easy it is to throw a small board around

I love how 149's (and 159's) feel, but trying a bunch of flippity flop starts to hurt my knees, ankles, back. Also much less likely to get lucky with some shit that I don't really have (sometimes I can throw out some bullshit and get away with it on smaller set ups). So. Do you feel like you can flip an 8.1 with 149s easier than a wider board on the same size trucks? I've kinda felt like the deck width had been less important for me, while truck width has been very important.

B16 is as close to 'the one' as I've had. Bought a dee, sky blue b16 from 35th Ave last summer, the board had baker written in an all over pattern, but really faint. Wasn't the mellow concave. Super crispy, felt noticeably lighter than a different b16 I had at the same time (Herman noseface, mellow concave). Anybody tried the  b19? Be nice to find that one. Basically an 8.25 version of the b16 if I've sussed it out correctly.

hey,
how do you guys know what type of shape it is on the baker boards? what measurements do i have to look for if i wanna get a b16 or b19?
