In your opinion are South Central boards stiffer than BBS? I went from BBS to PSStix and the board feels mushy. I feel like I don't get as good a snap on my Quasi compared to the Hockey deck I was riding before.

I just picked up a shop deck pressed by South Central.  I also have an Anti-Hero and a couple of Real decks.  South Central does feel stiffer and has a more audible snap.

I agree with this.  The deck seems a bit thicker than a BBS deck, but it has a crazy snap to it. It is hard to describe. It is very stiff and snappy, but does not feel unduly rigid like - in my opinion - Resin 7 decks do.  It is a very natural and responsive wood feeling, just insanely poppy. We will see how long it lasts. I am a relatively heavy guy, so my decks generally sog out with time.

It is thicker and heavier.  I was replacing a same size (8") Real deck and the South Central was just over 100 grams heavier.

a fuller shape or longer length could also be responsible for at least some of that weight tho.  I do like the thinness of BBS decks but doesn't the position in the presses also factor into this?  I didn't notice any significant increase in thickness with the one DOA board I had a few months back in the middle of a string of BBS decks.

I got curious and pulled out the calipers.   Turns out I was wrong.

South Central :  .39" thick
Anti Hero: .39"
Real: .39"
Mini Logo: .41"
Santa Cruz: .39"
Lib Tech: .36 (9.25 that is lighter than the 8" south central)

South Central deck is slightly shorter than the Real that was 100g lighter.   It's just super dense.

This is all subjective obviously but South Central is really unique feeling wood, I wouldn't really describe it as stiff though... or at least not hard stiff like r7/impact decks. To me it has kind of a soft, floaty feel  and the sound is deceptively quiet. I'm used to really poppy decks having kind of a sharp whip cracking noise, but its more of a thump with sc. The first time I set one up I snapped the tail against the ground a few times and the sound made me think it was going to be soggy and it caught me off guard when I actually popped it and the shit stuck to my feet so hard I felt like it pushed me 6 inches in the air.

It's definitely thicker and heavier than a lot of other wood but not in a way that detracts from pop if that makes sense. It's like it's got some natural rebound or springiness to it and it just flings itself in the air, chills for a minute, then floats down. I don't think I've ever really had an uncomfortable landing on it. Shits pretty indestructible too, I've ending up giving a couple away just because I wanted to try something new and they were nowhere near the end of their life span. I probably could have kept riding them for months. I don't break boards so no idea how it holds up in that department but I swear they use some kind of weird bottom veneer thats thicker or beveled differently or something that keeps it from razor tailing as fast.

Clutch wood has a somewhat similar, but harder feeling to it but nothing else really feels like SC to me. One of my favorite wood shops for sure.

8.25 DOA Chambers standard shape
Theeve 5.5 Ti-Hanger
Jivaro 53mm conicals
Modus 7 bearings
Black Magic grip

Haven't skated a standard shape DOA for quite a while and I liked it but wasn't completely into it last time (tail was a little steep for my liking) so I'm interested to see if how I find it this time around. Also snagged a couple other decks and an awesome longsleeve. DOA seems to always have cool shit and this spring line is no exception.

I think DOA released to shops ahead of time before they put the standard decks up on his site. New lineup looks great!

I wanted to give shops a few weeks to sell their stock. I put up clothes and flat decks because shops don’t buy them.  The full release will be next Friday if all goes well.

Yeah it's my favorite graphic of this run (although the Tech and Slaughter are close behind), if it had come in 8.25 square I would have blown my load but it didn't work out that way this time around. Still incredibly happy with what I got so far.

I'm also really hyped that the Tech flat I got seems to be from the bottom of the stack because it's super mellow. Been fighting the urge to set that one up because I my current flat has tons of life left but if I get bored after work tonight I might do it just to see how it looks.

Krooked Twin Tail Slick
Stage 9 Indy 139s, Bones Soft
Black Panthers Ceramic
Spitfire F4 54 Classics
Jessup.

New aftermarket Indy bushing locked up on me in the cold, Bones solved that. Wasn’t nearly as slick as I thought it would be, got it more to see what a twin shape was like. Think I’d rather have and nose and tail than both.
