Anyone with venture hollow 5.6 have a favorite 8.25 deck shape/WB? Love quasi but the 14.25 WB gets pushed out an extra 3.4 inches with the hollows which is a bit much. Thinking an 8.18 fa/hockey with 14 WB would potentially be nice, as the 8.25 are 14.125 WB. Can’t really find any squared off 14 WB shapes looking online unfortunately.
[close]

FA/Hockey 8.18 with 14” WB works great on Venture 5.6 hollow. I’m on an 8.25 Quasi (Josh Wilson pro model, a bit more rounded than square shape) with 5.6 and it’s ok. Good for flip tricks and manuals, not so much for transition but it works

Perfect thanks, I ordered an 8.18 FA figuring it would be a good fit plus I’m used to the ps stix with concave width measurement vs FA BBS so the 8.18 may actually feel wider. My quasi 8.25 measures like 8.13 straight across. Figuring that the 14 WB will offset the venture hollow WB extension to help on flip tricks a bit more.

Let’s just say, once I got my “foot in the door,” I made sure to never take it all the way out again. I’m not proud of it, but it helps keep skating affordable.

You’re right on the money. The FA will feel awesome 👍🏻 I skated them/Hockey all summer on Ventures

Never thought I'd buy wheels smaller than 54mm ever again but I was not sure to do with this impulse buy Creature... Seemed only right to set up an early 90s inspired rig. Could not go lower than 50mm though... (pic makes them look way bigger)

8.8" with 14" WB
146s Stage 8 Indys (upgraded with 88a Indy bushings and Krux DL kingpin)

Looks so sick, I have a set of those wheels on ice. 51mm tablets were the best small wheel I've ever skated. Also v jealous of the 146s.

Yeah, there is a lot of exposed axle and given that I'm hoping this set up will help me relearn some flip tricks I am a bit concerned about axle slip b/c I suck at flatground.

Ok

I wonder if spacers and the max amount of washers would help? Axle slip was so prevalent back then, for me, particularly with indys.
I’d like to find 136s, but haven’t come up.

Clutch blank 8.25.  Red/Orange wood sprayed white
Ace 44s
Spitfire 52mm tablets
Swiss

really loving these tablets.  i think these are gonna be my go-to for a while

kinda feeling like going a little smaller than 8.25, but have got a few more blanks to get through first.  Anyone use Ace 44s with an 8.1 or should i go with 33s?

Looks clean!

The 44s are wider than 8.25 but the 33s are more narrow than 8.1 so it might be best to stick with the 44s you have and see how that goes first, maybe try one deck and see, but the 8.1 is going to be 2mm on either side less than what you have currently.  Length and wheelbase might be less too though, not to give you too much info.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I was waiting to see if anyone else would ask about the one coloured wheel, but it seems no one did.

Buy four sets (three plain and one coloured set) and sub out the coloured wheel as per Lance Mountain or Jeff Grosso sets?

Funny cause I would do the opposite, buy four sets of the same and pull out the set of coloured wheels as their own set.

I noticed Jake Hayes did this recently too.

Pretty cool either way.  :)

For me, it’s aprop󳠴hat the modern spits that come in the 3/1 pack that I love are usually Lance or Grosso wheels, as those are exactly the dudes that inspired me to do it back in the day, and when possible, I still do it to this day (4 of my 6 current set ups are that way.)
Frequently, if a homey is hooking it up, I’ll request two of the same shape/size/duro, but in different colors. Swap one wheel from each set, and boom: 2x 3/1 sets.
I have also been known to request different colored sets of trucks so as to swap either 1 baseplate, or hanger, per set.
Again, dudes like Lance, Neil, Lucero, & Grosso influenced me heavily in my youth, and age be damned, I’m still that kid inside.
Asymmetry is my friend.

Well I think they give a shit, that’s why they pointed it out.
I also wouldn’t do it, but it does seem very self limiting. I also notice this more with older skaters not wanting to say....wear a lakai shirt with nikes, or whatever.
Back on track: the setup looks very clean, nice. I recently got some 33s on an 8”, and I am as stoked on it as I’ve been on a setup in a really long time. I don’t receive many benefits from wider trucks. Plus I really like the way 33s look.

You got "different set ups for every shoe you have" out of my comment? I just meant the sticker. But you do you. Hope you wear adidas track pants with those blazers while youre at it.

OMG youre kidding, you don't get incentives? Those 4 vans stickers made me think otherwise.

I would kill for those grosso 3+1’s. I saw Jake haze’s set up and it reminded me I should do it that way till they do another lifers wheel. God willing they still do a grosso wheel. But what really sealed the deal was on Lance’s insta he posted a clip and had the one colored wheel. It gets me every time.
