im thinking of trying a gx1000 8.5 deck. i wonder how comparable it is to the DLX 8.5's. seems like a whole different feeling of board by the looks of it. never rode shovel nose's before and they look intimidating lol

The P2 was a very handsome shape and I loved the ultra square nose, but I think I'm just not a mellow concave/kicks guy. Decided to try the quasi proto shape again before I give up and just ride hockey decks forever.

GX1000 8.5"
ace AF1 55s

Nice shape, kicks looks Huge!
Do u know the length & WB on it?
[close]
Sorry I'm late on this.
Length is 31.75" (stretched measurement)
WB: 14.25

The kicks look way bigger than they are. The tail is like 6.5 and the nose is like 6.875, but the super blunt shape and the taper from the front to the back just makes the nose look a shovel. It's the same shape as the Quasi 8.5" proto, just with mellow kicks and concave.

Dlx 8.5 is my go-to board, but right now I’m on a gx1000 8.5. They are definitely a very different feeling setup but at the same time not too drastic of a different. I’m skating venture 5.6 v hollows and they work really well with both. Biggest difference is the gx feels overall larger and a bit more balanced. Definitely recommend giving it a try

I’m curious how you like the Santa Cruz with the ventures, I’ve been riding the same real shape for a few boards and I have a SC on deck but I’m worried the steepness is going to feel weird with the ventures

@Esmith5488 i have long legs and like a steep setup, makes everything come up higher and stick to my feet better. if its too steep ill probably switch to the cast plates but will find out later today

@smoothbrain friends and family blondey dunks witha light coat of this

@TwisT i used rustoleum 2x ultra cover in cranberry with varathane spar urethane as the clear coat. its a green "matte finish" bottom ply. warming up on a double sided curb today to see how it slides

I’ve been thinking about sizing down my trucks on 8’s like this but was worried about them feeling too small. Does it feel like you have enough truck?

Real Mason Silva shape (8.28W x 13.7L x 14.12WB)
Indy forget hollow 144 stock
Sml Wheels 53mm V-cut AG formula
Mix of Bones Swiss and Reds
Bronze 1” Allen
Ashes grip
Adidas Busenitz Vintage

First time during a DLX board in 14 years of skating.
I usually hate Real graphics but this one is alright, and the dimension seem awesome.
Also hyped on the kicks. I love Busenitz, did my best skating in them, but been a while since I bought a pair and this new cleaner version looks and feels really good.

The 8.28 shape and 144s is such a good combo. Hope you love it as much as I did

Love your sticker job on there! How short is the tail for that shape? And Ashes is still in business? Haven't seen any grip from them for a while.

Hey man, thanks! I just ran out of Slap stickers with this deck!  :'(
I don’t know if Ashes is still going, but I ordered a shaped deck to hang from Sprouters the other day and since they didn’t have grip wide enough they sent 2 Ashes griptapes. I never rode it before but honestly it feels really good! I’m usually a mob guy.
Deck dimensions:
Tail - 6.6 inches; Nose - 7 inches
(I measured from the middle of the back/front bolts, not sure if that’s the correct way.)

Went for a park sesh today and both board and shoes felt amazing! Really happy with the set-up!

Finally got this figured out for now. Skate Warehouse 20% sale was real nice for experimenting since getting back into street skating a bit this year.

Shoes: Etnies Marana Michelin size 12 black/grey/gum
Deck: Element Sascha Natural Defense 8.5x32.36" N: 7.25" T: 6.75" WB: 14.5" (BBS) + Jessup Ultra
Trucks: Krux K5 Standard Polished 8.5" H: 55mm W: 355g + Bones Hardcore Hard 96a white bushings + Krux ⅛" white risers
Wheelset: OJ Plain Jane Keyframe 87a 56mm + Bronson Speed Co. G2 + Bronson spacers
Hardware: Independent 1" Phillips 6 black 2 silver

Notes: I really love the size of this board in general, it fits well with size 12 shoes and 6’2” lankiness. Still interested in the balance of a twin tail but this deck works well for now. I’m gonna catch flak for the trucks but I really like them. I use risers to avoid wheelbite on 56mm wheels and I like the quality of the Krux risers (they are mostly solid, not many holes), plus they fit the trucks perfectly. The stock bushings felt amazing if you like soft and turny, and yes the trucks do turn pretty well. However, I don’t like sharp/swervy turning much for a trick board (I do like my Indy 159’s on my cruiser board though) so they work better for me with the Bones hard bushings. Just overall really like the trucks, and they're relatively lightweight too at 355g (Haven't weighed them since swapping bushings though). The wheels are a super soft durometer but I love them because I almost never ride skateparks, it’s almost exclusively crusty streets. Also I’ve found that wheels in general just feel way better when I run spacers and tighten the axle nuts down pretty snug. Everything is more stable. Had to run the Bronson's just because they're orange and match the wheels lol. But even the G2's feel nice and I like the double shielding.
