Grimplestix 8.5 (measures slightly smaller)
Venture 5.6 with 3 washers on the inside, flat top washers and blue indy top bushing (they're more durable)
Spitfire f4 conical 99 52mm
Swiss
hows the 5.6 vs the 5.8s?
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Deathwish 8.25 Twin
[close]

How steep are the kicks on the board?
[close]

The kicks and concave are a little more mellow than the Ishod twin tails. I actually prefer steeper boards but I skated this for a little bit yesterday and it felt reallllly good. If they keep making them I'll keep skating them, symmetrical boards are the best
[close]

Darn! I figured with twin noses they’d be on the steeper side. That’s what I’m looking for on a symmetrical board.

I don’t know the exact measurements but the ends do seem to be longer than the Ishod twintails even if they’re not as steep

how's it skating 159s on an 8.5? been curious about giving it a try next set of trucks

so far I have no complaints. only had one session on the 159s
so still have that horrible new bushings feeling.
prefer them over my ace 44 classics.

hows the 5.6 vs the 5.8s?

Not a crazy difference given the fact that I have three washers on the inside (and only do one on inside with 5.8s). They definitely turn a little bit sharper which is nice especially on ventures.

I kinda get what people mean when they say the leverage is a little better for some flip tricks, its seems to help a bit with a few flips tricks that I struggle with.

They pinch a bit different, gotta sit on the grind a bit differently dont think its better or worse.

Definitely get a bit more wheelbite and fall off my board more often if I don't land very stable though.

I'm used to it now but there's definitely both pros and cons. Unsure if I'd do 5.8 or 5.6 in the long run.

Rewatched too many Love Letters and 80s skate videos and decided to go back to small nose big tail with 169s. Turning my big nose small tail board into a cruiser.

Left:
- Zmorgf Spade 9.5" x 32.5" with 14 - 14.5" adjustable wheelbase
- Thunder 161 Hollow Lights with Thunder 90a white aftermarket bushings
- Powell Peralta 56mm 85a G-Slides (caliper says they're actually 55mm)
- Bronson G3s with spacers
- Real Thunder Wooden Riser Pads 1/8"
- 1" hardware
- MOB

Right:
- Zmorgf Landboat II 9.6" with 14 - 14.5" adjustable wheelbase (Landboat shape that I scaled down a bit). I forgot the length
- USA Indy 169s with aftermarket Indy 92a conical blue bushings
- Powerflex 56mm 83b/55d Gumball wheels (Dual duormeter. Urethane is 83b while the core is 55d. Caliper says they're actually 55.5mm)
- Bones Swiss with spacers
- MOB
- 1" Diamond hardware

Haven't skated without rails in forever. These Powerflex wheels should be interesting to ride, although they are skinnier than I thought they'd be.

Polar 8.25 with Jessup Ultra

Indy ti 144 hangers on new IKP baseplates

Spitfire 51mm tablets with wide inside washers

Not a huge fan of tablets, but I pulled the bearings out of my classics to clean 'em and just wanted to get a skate in today.

I had that same deck over the summer.  That Polar 8.25” shape is so good. Just grabbed another one from the most recent drop.

It's a great 8.25. Widely available and sometimes interesting graphics.

I wish the wheelbase was actually 14.125 as listed instead of 14.25 in reality. Long nose works well for me on noseslides.

Deathwish 8.25 Twin
148 Thunder Ti’s, 97a bushings, wood risers
53mm 99a Spitfire Tablets
Bones Big Balls Bearings
NB#1010

I noticed my flips are better when I ride on the nose instead of the tail. This twin nose might be what I need. How is the flick, is it rather like flipping a nose or a tail? I am specifically talking about the bit of concave you are flicking the foot out on kickflips and heelflips... is it rather flat or deep?
why come?

Real 8.06 x 31.58 x 13.9wb - IV stamp.

Venture 5.2 lights. Flat top washer and 2x inside washers.

Spitfire 52mm Classics.

Jessup Ultra, Shorty's 7/8 allen, Mini-Logo bearings.

So excited to skate this board! First time on an 8 in probably 15+ years.

took the leap and sized down from an 8.38 to an 8.25

a couple compromises with this new setup, WB is 14” when i’m usually into boards with an 14.25-14.38 WB, and it’s kind of a flat board. will take some getting used to, but i wanted to support. has a nice kick to it so far.

Girl 8.25 Breana 93 Til
14” WB, square nose, G052 shape
54mm FF conical fulls
ace 44 trucks
bones swiss
jessup grip

SO i ended up disliking this setup, and decided to get a new board.

Hockey Nik Stain
8.44, not shaped like normal FA/Hockey boards
14.19wb
54mm FF conical fulls
ace 44 trucks
bones swiss
jessup grip

i ordered Ace AF1 55’s but i couldn’t wait to skate this one so i’ll throw them on once they arrive.

Trying out an egg because I had some other parts lying around that I thought might work with it. Pretty darn weird setup overall but I just tried it out and it’s still pretty fun.

Quasi 9” (at widest point, although the stamp on top said 8.878 or something like that. But it measured 9” when I got the tape measure out)

Listed as 13.75” wb but I haven’t measured that. It definitely feels like a small wb, this thing really hooks the turns

Indy hollow 149

F4 99a 53mm classics

Fake bones Swiss (better than I expected tbh)

Santa Cruz slimline rails (didn’t realize they had a sort of angled top… I think I put them on technically “backwards”?)

Sheet of Jessup that had some wrinkles creased in it so I tried to around them… could be worse

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Venture 5.2 (havent rode Ventures since the early 90s green bushing featherlites; been riding Ace for years)
Blind 51s in a classic shape (found for 13 bucks on sale)
random bearings
indy 7/8 allen bolts

lets see how long this lasts

So curious about that shape. almost ordered it but chickened out and got the regular fa/hockey 8.5 instead.
are the kicks same steepness as other fa/hockey decks?

man, I've been fucking around with other woodshops and shop boards since I started skating again last september. Just set up a Real Full SE. First pro board from one of the major companies I've skated in years and it feels like coming home after a long journey across the desert. Was trying new stuff, making it work, learning to get it going, and now I'm on that BBS DLX board and it's instantly perfect. 8)

Thank you  :)

Haven't had the chance to skate this specific set yet, but I've had a couple pairs before. They're really great, doesn't feel too different from softer wheels in terms of roll but they're decently comfortable to slide. Wide like OJ Super Juices but the shape is symmetrical which I like much better. IIRC they don't crack from stuff like slappies which is a huge plus for me.

That’s so sick! That football looks awesome fun.

Man, skating with your son has to be one of the best feelings ever. I never pushed skating on my son and for a while I thought he didn’t care for it at all. Which is 100% fine of course. Then one day out of nowhere he asked “dad, could I get a skateboard one day?”. I had enough stuff to set one up for him but nothing beats going to a skate shop and picking out everything themselves. Such an amazing experience.

He’s 10 now and been skating for about 10 months. Watching him get hyped on learning new stuff must be the meaning of life!

Such an amazing experience.

He’s 10 now and been skating for about 10 months. Watching him get hyped on learning new stuff must be the meaning of life!

Yup, he's 13 and we have a blast at the park.  I don't push it just let him do his thing.  His older sister was cruising around with us during lockdown but she was worried about getting hurt before ski season.

My dream is to do an over/under thing in the deep end!
