I've built a setup made of gear I regret buying.
Crob twin tail 8.5, the tails are way too long for me and in combination with the short wheelbase feels extremely off.
So I cut them off. From 6.84 down to 6.5". Way better! It's a bit of an egg shape now.

Ace AF1 44, felt way too heavy on what I'm usually riding (14.3 wb), but seems to work great on the short 14" wb.

Snot wheels 51mm. They just don't slide, which was disappointing, but now they're a perfect winter wheel.

From everything I know about wheelbase I should hate this setup, but due to the heavy trucks it feels like a long wheelbase with light trucks. Works out great.

I quite like them, nose is full and round without being square, similar to an AWS or Habitat with slightly steep kicks and a medium concave.

I'm 6 sessions into mine and it has not gone soft yet. Chip resistance could be better when hucking down stuff (is what the younger guy who skate stairs tell me when I passed them 1). Razor tails at moderate speed, skating sandpaper ground.

Good deck would buy again based on 6 sessions.

that last snack i had cracked in the middle in 2 sessions in a really weird way, like a kinda huge chip
on the bottom of the board. mad pressure cracks too,  even with thin rubber risers. i don’t recommend clutch wood. this one is a ps stix and it feels a lot better right off the bat and i like that shape more. it’s 31.7 after measuring and skates great, boards with short tails and large noses work for me. working at the skateshop got me actin crazy and i already have another deck on ice, a girl carroll 8.375. these worker discounts really hit different

I wonder if that is the measurement of length straight across from tip to tip, compared to the length when measured with the concave, in the same way PS Stix boards were always measured with the concave so they showed as a lot longer than they actually were.

Seems about right from the conversion, PS Stix boards I have saying 32.25 being around 31.8 when measured tip to tip.

Lately Ive been having trouble getting my tail/nose to touch the ground when popping stuff, even though I didnt change anything about my setup (standard indys, Antihero, spitfires), no new wheels or anything that would make my setup higher from the ground.
So Im looking for some lowrider stuff right now.
Can anyone recommend what to get? Specifically:
- switch to indy mids, or even some lower truck from other brand
- which trucks have the geometry, that has the axles closest together? I guess thats also a factor
- shorter wheelbase means tail touches the ground sooner when popping, right?
- getting something like Real twin tail might help? Any other brands that make symmetrical shape?

Appreciate any recs and or advice

I go through decks quick, so I never really develop a serious razor tail.
And about those indys, Im definitely looking at either getting mids or even lower trucks. Standards that Im riding now are 55mm and forged are 53,5. Mids are 52 and since Im really looking at getting low, I would go for mids.
Question is, whether I should switch to some other truck entirely, some that has the geometry that allows the tail to hit the ground even sooner.

I selfishly recommend ace lows. I just want to know what they’re like but I can barely find sufficient insight on them. That might actually be the closest thing to indy lows but probably better. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them advertised as capable of being able to pair with 53 or 54mm wheels, which for a 48-49mm truck, is neat

I just spent a few hours on youtube and I think I found out what to try, so if anyone else is wondering how to go low and avoid ghost pop:
-get a board with mellow kicks (this is usually never stated or visible online, so I will just shuffle through a lot of decks on my next visit to the shop
-get a board with a shorter wheelbase
-have wheels 53mm or smaller
-have low/mid trucks
-have trucks that have a shorter wheelbase, eg. thunder or ventures are farther apart, indys or aces are more closer together (the geometry of the trucks makes their axles be closer together or farther apart when assembled, so for example if you have Ventures on a deck with 14.25 wheelbase, the real wheelbase is going to be longer, than if you had Indys on the same deck with the same wheelbase)

Lately Ive been having trouble getting my tail/nose to touch the ground when popping stuff, even though I didnt change anything about my setup (standard indys, Antihero, spitfires), no new wheels or anything that would make my setup higher from the ground.
So Im looking for some lowrider stuff right now.
Can anyone recommend what to get? Specifically:
- switch to indy mids, or even some lower truck from other brand
- which trucks have the geometry, that has the axles closest together? I guess thats also a factor
- shorter wheelbase means tail touches the ground sooner when popping, right?
- getting something like Real twin tail might help? Any other brands that make symmetrical shape?

Appreciate any recs and or advice

So besides just not getting down low enough, between two different setups, one with a steeper board and one with a more mellow board, if I have been on the mellow board, I do the same as you and ghost pop on the steeper board, as I am more used to the more mellow board, it being lower when the tail hits the ground, but apart from that they are two pretty much identical setups (Antihero, Indy standards, Spitfire 52-54mm wheels).

Sure you can change up a lot of things, but getting down a bit lower means you will adjust to it better, or just getting a more mellow deck, even of the same brand often helps.

DLX boards are labelled on top I to IV, with I being the steepest and IV being the most mellow, but there are other ways to mellow out a board too, such as parking on it, or even just driving over it.

I just spent a few hours on youtube and I think I found out what to try, so if anyone else is wondering how to go low and avoid ghost pop:
-get a board with mellow kicks (this is usually never stated or visible online, so I will just shuffle through a lot of decks on my next visit to the shop
-get a board with a shorter wheelbase
-have wheels 53mm or smaller
-have low/mid trucks
-have trucks that have a shorter wheelbase, eg. thunder or ventures are farther apart, indys or aces are more closer together (the geometry of the trucks makes their axles be closer together or farther apart when assembled, so for example if you have Ventures on a deck with 14.25 wheelbase, the real wheelbase is going to be longer, than if you had Indys on the same deck with the same wheelbase)

I currently ride and enjoy a 14.25 WB on Indy Mids and 52mm Classics. 8.25-8.38 (DLX 8.5) seems about the sweet spot.
