I had cognitive dissonance using harder bushings for a long time and went as far as grinding excess kingpin off with an angle grinder to keep stock. I swear harder bushings cranked less actually turn better than softer cranked. If you crank 2-3 threads and the bushing is so compressed it can't move it limits the overall hanger movement.

I made this switch recently. Well I have Gilbert Crocket 5.2 lows with purple bushings from the old Hollow hi's. But they're cast lows anyway.

I'm now riding Spitfire 50s, I rode Bones 52 before. Turn and stability are pretty similar, maybe lows are a bit more stable. Funny enough they felt better cruising a bowl (which I normally don't do). They didn't feel as good with 52's, they were heavier at least. Can't tell much difference with the pop, maybe it was even better with Hollow hi's.

I might go back because with 50mm wheels I'm loosing speed on rough grounds. At least I can say the switch didn't help with any tricks except crooked grinds...

(And oh yes, I switched from Thunder Hollow 147 to Venture Hollow hi 5.2 to Venture cast low 5.2)

I think the 5.2 Lo is closest to the 147 Thunder in dimensions but isn’t far off from the 5.2 Hollow Hi.
I typically ride 50mm down to 40mm or lower so I’m not worried about wheelbite.

Seeing pros size up to hollow Hi from cast Lo is telling. perhaps you’re right that the pop might be better…

The durability of the forged plates worry me as the bolt holes are already forming ovals after a couple sessions.

Manual feel pretty much the same, both good.
Hollow Hi allow more grind clearance. They increase WB quite a bit. Nose/tailslides are "grinds" because the baseplate comes out so much. Actually there was like a mm gap to board which doesn't exist with cast baseplate. In that way cast is closer to Thunders I guess.

I just got the axel bend which annoyed so much I wanted to try the standard lows.

In my skating there isn't big difference between the two. Pros are different story...

Titanium 5.2 high will be my next set of ventures. Orchard has them online. I’ll hopefully still have some life left on my purple bushings, from my current v-hollows, and throw them in, instead of the white colored bushings.

But as with you all, with no sign of a purple replacements kit from venture has anyone ridden the green loose truck conversion bushings? I would only use the bottom if it is a suitable replacement for the purple when mine eventually blow out.

I would only use the bottom if it is a suitable replacement for the purple when mine eventually blow out.

I rode the tops with stock bottoms for about a year and went back to stock. It was fun but once broken in was a bit looser than I'd have preferred even with 1 thread showing and I'd consider myself a lighter person at 135lbs. I'm back on stocks right now running looser than nut flush and it s the perfect mix of turn and stability for me. If you're only using the bottom it should be fine

Yep - I was the same way. Took me a while to learn that bushing duro is better than cranking or riding stock wobbly ass loose.

I totally regret not getting the ti after seeing this and finding two sets of cast plates this morning inside a state footwear box.

It's not that big a deal because I love my trucks. Especially now I got the flat washers off my last set. My homie who was visiting picked up my board today and said. YO!!! Those are just like my old slime balls! He spun a wheel and heard the exposed ceramic bearings. Of course you would have your shit tipl top. He was very impressed by the graphic.

I said you know it kid. Then I asked. Did you ever pop your shields off? That's why they sound like that. He was impressed.

Kids legit. Started out on toys r us stuff in the 80s. He can still pop shuv. I think he can do them fakie and nollie too.

He's more into long-distance biking now. He's totally right in thinking that my board is super sick because it is the best

Yeah and make sure you keep your washers for when you gotta go to the green or purples.

The greens with flat washers feel exactly like the bones tops if you use no washer.

I put Ace medium bushings on my 8" Venture hollows and holy smokes do they turn now. Had to remove the bottom washer though, they are taller. I don't care what it does to geometry it felt like a more stable Royal which is crazy.
