What size do you think those 80s ventures came in? Imagine if they came out with these again sort of how Indy put out the stage 4. They would have to lower the kingpin and make magnesium hangers but I’d buy a set just because venture is great. Imagine if they got go z back on the team to be the voice of the campaign
Of the 80s versions, one ad above had them in 159 and 165 mm, so approximately 8.75 and 9.0" widths, which I think would be fairly consistent with the size of boards from that era - even 9.5 or wider sized boards were shaped in ways that the not as wide / more narrow trucks fit on them well, as per some I got to check and compare not too long ago.
The Instagram post for that particular set with info says 8.75 axles.
Apart from that, I think at least one other older listing on ebay or post somewhere had some around 8.5 in width too.
I really don't know much else about those older trucks, so it has been interesting looking up info about them.
The 90s revised "V" hanger versions with the six hole baseplates came out in 5.0, 5.25 and 5.8 according to a couple of catalogs I saw a while back too, but I don't know if any of the older ones carried over past the revision in any other sizes.
Maybe more than anything, I feel like the older trucks were interesting to look at but often just don't perform quite like anything does these days, or have had certain revisions, like as you said, lowered kingpin, better geometry or whatever else they had going on, because every single skateboard from "back in the day" I have been able to have a roll on just didn't feel quite as good as I remember.
* Seeing so many of those ads from the Skate Scans archive or even looking back over pics in online searches, they sure did have a solid team when they were at peak in the 80s - Gonz and others, pre Indy deals. Maybe it is more just an Indy thing to re-release all the old stuff, or have a need for older reissues, compared to Venture, Thunder or other brand trucks from back then.
