Covid setups AKA Isolation madness
« on: April 12, 2020, 10:40:19 AM »
Well guys, the isolation (+ lack of skating) is messing with our already messed up minds and I know for a fact that many are putting together setups out from this boredom.
I want to see those covid setups

Rather than being a board I set up for covid this is the board I've been riding during covid.

My cruiser now turned everyday setup. With the parks closed I took to waxing a curb in my lot. I go down and slappy it everyday.

Posted this in another thread last week but I feel it’s relevant here...

Lurks Houston 9.12
Thunder 149 w/ Thunder black 100du bushings
Speedlab 58mm 97a Danforths
Mini logo bearings
Krooked 1/4” risers
Shortys hardware
Mob
Some Adidas 3MC poking out at the bottom
I only skate prime numbers, so it's either 53s or 59s, feast or famine

New Spitfire 80hd 56mm
Bones big balls and trying that new Jessup ultra .

I have a fucked up tendon or something on the outside of my front foot when I Ollie or flick so I’m taking it easy just pushing Around , but can’t wait to find a good curb to slappy with this

Since Covid... no skateparks and I don't feel like driving so I've been enjoying random cruises on this:

I pushed  over 12 miles the other day, including hitting some rough banks and ledge spots along the way. Hit a DIY Jersey barrier on it yesterday and snagged a quick slasher.

I am now thinking of setting up a flat ground set up to get me through this bullshit. I have a Chocolate Tershy/ Couch deck on ice with a sub 14" wheelbase. I am going to set it up with Thunder 151s and some 54mm tablets in the next few weeks to try to relearn some flip trickery in the smooth car park a block from my house.

Ok

interested on your couch shape thoughts. Sub 14” would be my justification. Want something to cruise with big wheels once I go back outside. I just want to push.

ha ha thanks. Will certainly post feedback on the Couch shape once I have it set up. I'm trying to hold off a bit to bur though my existing set ups, but I have a nice flat ground spot super close to my house, so we shall see....

How's the wheelbite without risers?
I'm thinking 57mm with Indy cast on a big board but already planning for diy wheelwells.

Ok

Not them, but I skated 56 conicals with ace trucks and didn’t have a problem. I get more wheelbite with Indy than ace tho.

I don't have a camera capable of capturing the breadth of my mental illness, but from where I'm sitting I can see around 2 dozen full setups that I don't skate that often but have kept around for whatever reasons. Over by the door are the 4 or 5 I actually skate frequently and a handful of freshies that are on deck. Under my bed there's a stack of probably 15 that I'm either done with or didn't like that I always tell myself I'm going to sell but usually end up just giving away. Finally, on the other side of the room there's a couple boxes of new decks I don't plan on skating but I'm hoarding for various reasons.

Frankly it's pretty depressing.

Work has me busy – a problem I'm thankful for – so I haven't gotten to really ride it yet. Hoping to enjoy a quick solo flatland/curb sesh this weekend. Will report back when I do.

I’ve got some stuff as well. Probably 3 completed set up, stuff for another 2, few extra decks.
I don’t really skate. I was working too much, just to kinda scrape by, and now I’ve been staying inside with the whole shelter in place. Although I don’t think I’m at a high risk to give/get the covid, just pushing around, I’ve been trying to just stay low/inside, so as to do my part. Where I live people are out and about pretty frivolously, seeing an old guy skating down the street is the definition of unnecessary.
And now and I’m just trolling the nets looking at other boards. Not needed.
For me what’s depressing is that All of my shit is relatively old (I haven’t bought a board or parts in 6 ish months), but I’ve got enough to last me till the end of my life. One complete would do that. Like if I was some poor South American youth, I could make one of my completed last for the rest of my days.
I say all of that to offer some sympathy.
I have tried getting rid of stuff/giving away. I’ve gotten into a cycle where I’ll do that and then re buy same stuff. To that point I just don’t give away 8” trucks anymore, because i should know I’m going to circle back.
The only temporary ‘cure’/‘solution’ is to skate as much as possible and that’s just not happening these days.

Hey. If anyone's got stuff to give away I'd take some Indy 149's, preferably hollow cast or Ti!
Would be will to trade for a deck that's in my too much stuff pile..
Sadly, I've got decks that sat around too long that they became "collectors items". Anyone want a Daryl Angel P2? It's gonna be hot on the collector market, right?
Enough product to last me? Maybe if I milked the decks but I don't have much in larger sizes. You're making think I should stock up a lil! Gonna need some more wheels.. hmm..

I'm not skating much right now but my 7 year old daughter asked me to teach her so she is cruising on one of my old completes.  7.625 Paul Rodriguez Plan B, 7.5" venture lows, spitfire 55.5s, random bearings. The wheels are obviously way too big but she doesn't weigh enough to get wheelbase cruising so it works for now.

Those setups are mine.  The black one at the bottom is a 9.25" Lib Tech Jamie Lynn Rat Tail.  It's super poppy and uses their tech construction that makes it about the same weight as the 8" Mini Logo - and lighter than the 8" South Central pressed deck in the pic.

Lib Tech decks seem to be scarce, but more available in summer than winter - so keep an eye out for one.

Bought some Thunder 151s for my normal setup which I wasn't 100% into. My friend gave me a krooked that he had and painted over

Originally was this board ^, shape feels great though the wheelbase measures out to be a tiny bit over 14.5. Should be a fun, non tech setup to mess around on.

Just finished putting together my heated wheel-inspired project

Cut-down scavenged board
(Kept original wheelbase)

Scavenged trucks (penny trucks? Found them in the bushes at a skatepark a year ago)

Spitfire 80a and bones reds (off a second-hand board in a thrift store)

Only fresh gear was the bolts

Shape looks rad. It almost reminds me of a longer Brown Bomber.
