Definitely agreed!

Do you listen to Oneohtrix Point Never?

"There are harpsichords all over Age Of, electronic composer Daniel Lopatin’s eighth studio album as Oneohtrix Point Never. It’s an instrument that Lopatin derides in press materials as a “perfectly dumb machine”—one that always reverberates the same, no matter how you strike the keys. That sound, reminiscent of parlors and powdered wigs, is used here to evoke the long, lingering continuity of the history of music, if not civilization itself. And it’s one Lopatin, with typical fervor, immediately sets about tearing to pieces..."

a harpsichord is a “dumb machine” but you can give a false sense of playing softer or harder with good composition and varying the playing speed. the way Oneohtrix distorts those harpsichord notes is cool. I’ll have to check out more of their music.

one of the best post-punk albums i've heard this year. if you like total control or diat, give this a shot.

Been a big Duster fan for a little while but it's taken me a little while to get into Helvetia. Finally did yesterday and I'm not sure why I didn't sooner.

how do you guys come across new music? do you use any services like spotify or apple music? I mostly find it through books, message boards, friends, and the internet.

i find a lot through spotify. the weekly recommendation playlist has lead me to a lot of cool stuff. some weeks are total duds though. i like a lot of different music, but the majority of the time i stick to similar sounding stuff, so i get a lot of repeat recommendations.

reddit is pretty good too. i follow the indieheads sub for new music and ive found some great stuff on there. that sub is broad enough that it gets enough people uploading and discussing the music which definitely plays into what i click on. i always wait for the new music friday thread to come up and see if there is anything i need to check out. thats how i found sauna youth. sometimes the only description you get is one or two genre categories, so you gotta be a bit adventurous. sometimes it pays off, but a lot of the time i listen to a bunch of bands that are shit.

sometimes i just explore on my own. there theres a new band i like, ill check out other bands on their label or whatever bands are related on bandcamp. i feel like i definitely go in spirts of listening to new stuff and when weeding through shitty bands gets tiring, ill jump back to what i know i like for a while.

whoever posted that mr. pharmacist show on mixcloud deserves a few more gnars because i found a whole bunch of shit from that. lotta old 60s stuff and weird french shit that ive never heard, mixed with tons of classics that love. i wish he kept the show going or there was a similar podcast right now.

skate videos used to be a major music discovery outlet for me, but it seems like the days of good music in videos is long gone.

i feel like im the only person i know who's into music though. none of my friends and family care enough to actively look for new stuff, be it new, or just something they've just never heard.

lost from a few yrs ago on an island. it was some primetime bullshit and a guy had to set a clock every episode or some shit. is it an experiment? did that guy die and come back? alternate universes?
who knows, i never saw an episode but my buddy usedta try to get me to watch it.

I like all kinds of music though I have certain genres I like the most. Lately I’ve been taking a deep dive into classical. It’s nice to listen to stuff that’s unusual to me so my usual stuff stays fresh sounding. I’ve always been addicted to music but lately I’m in a new exploration phase and it’s really great to listen to all kinds of stuff. Thanks for those suggestions.
