Kinda fiending for something new, wondering if I should bounce 9/10 of my collection for a 14000 air king or a 36 Tudor sub…

Anyone bought anything lately?

Today I have this on:

Every time I put this one on, I get quickly reminded at just how awesome it is

That’s cool that he’s into watches and I don’t want to diss or anything, but skin divers should be 37mm max and don’t really need 200m wr; that’s what separates them from regular divers … the whole market is already flooded with vintage-inspired dive watches though so he’s gonna have trouble standing our from the pack if he sticks with that aesthetic. fucking hell, I sound like … a watch snob :(

On a positive note, that’s cool that an SKX013 is his daily driver, will be interesting to see what he comes up with down the track.

I picked up an Omega Seamaster 600 in January. It’s early-to-mid 60s, manual, has a silver dial—looks very sick. I have small wrists, so the 34mm case works really well. Been wearing it daily. Have just stopped because it’s starting warm up here and I’m not trying to sweat through a leather band on the daily.

I’m looking at 166.010s but I kinda want one with crosshairs on the dial. Those old omega movements are bulletproof! 34mm is great for that style of watch

I looked at the 166.010 briefly. It’s a great looking watch—the crosshairs is very sick—and within my size range, but I don’t like having to deal with any complications on my watches, even something as simple as a date window.  This has put me off some similar looking King Seiko watches from the same era that I like.

↑Dope, you have great taste in watches!
Vintage Omega is so timeless with their designs. I really like the look of the BOR bracelets on the 166 though hence why I'm lusting.
My local watch shop actually has two so it's just a matter of flipping some of my current collection...
But yeah, as I headed down the vintage omega rabbit hole, I became aware of these two divers, or should I say skin divers as they fit right in with that aesthetic:
The first is the big crown Seamaster 60:
https://www.chrono24.com/omega/ref-166062--id21688042.htm
Damn son, now I know where Lorier stole all their design language from. I can get one locally too though I probably won't own much after the purchase :(
The other one is the Seamaster 120, I'm also kinda obsessed with this guy's channel and wish I could refurbish old watches like him:

I'm really digging the design of that one too!
(the part where he gets the movement running again is pure automatic watch porn)

In other recent, but still skin-diver related, news Oris dropped a 38mm version of their 65 diver and it has their in house movement:
https://www.oris.ch/en/watch/chronos-limited-edition/01-400-7774-4015-set
For the price that's actually crazy value, 120 hour power reserve with 10 year warranty on the movement too. Would be interesting to see how it looks in person. I've always liked Oris but their budget movements brought them down in the past imho

Thanks for the kind words. Thanks for posting that video. I’ve had a hard time finding watch stuff on YouTube that piques my interest. That was an interesting video and I’m going to dig into the channel a bit.

The 166.010 on the BOR bracelet is very cool looking. I find myself saying that about pretty much all of the vintage Omegas I see. As you said, their design is timeless. The watches themselves are very versatile and don’t draw too much attention—unless you run into another Omega fan.

I’m not in the market for a watch right now, but if I were talking myself into a vintage watch, and had the money to throw around, and could get a hold of one, I’d be looking at a Ranchero 2990.1.—a light on dark dial like the 120 you are looking at.

The big crown is a good example of the little touches that Omega adds that get me going—the literal “big crown,” the design around the outside edge of the dial, etc. Lots of “Well, I don’t have a watch that has one of those” touches.

Does the dial of the Oris fade towards the center or is that a lighting thing in the pic? I would love to have a 110 hour power reserve.

Anyone knows why the guy in the video is wearing these finger condoms? Is it to not leave any sebum(?) on any parts of the watch?

Best guess is to avoid leaving skin oil on the metallic parts that could lead to corrosion.
I know nothing about watches by the way but these videos are so sick I've watched a few already thanks for the link @Gray Imp Sausage Metal

Oris have a nice history, especially with pilot watches (BCPD) and skin divers (65). The biggest thing they needed to work on was their movements (I’m kinda anti sellita) but now they have their own in-house ones with massive power reserves I believe they can punch on with the big boys!!!

Also in other watch news, swatch just collabed with omega to bring out a bunch of quartz speedmasters that look surprisingly good (but will ultimately be bought up and sold on eBay for triple the price)

User @jay_nev cane to through with the link!

Despite the Swomegas not being limited edition, dudes are selling them for over 5 grand on eBay which is ridiculous when you can pick up an actual hand wound non-plastic speedmaster for the same price or similar.

Yeah, I just looked. What's wrong with people?

When Nintendo Wii was the hot christmas item I would go to the Nintendo store before work every day to buy one and sell it on ebay for 3x the price... I haven't done a scam like this recently, but fuck it, maybe I'll give it a go.

I think I'll grab one of them Omega Swatch's when they are back restocked. I'll never have €5000 to buy a real Omega.
Side note I've got a very old women's Rolex which I completely forgot about. I'll post some pics later of it.

check out vintage omegas though, something like a 166.010 can be had for just under a grand which is crazy value when you consider the quality of the product. Quartz bond seamasters (I.e. the one bond actually wore) are also not that expensive when you factor in quality and robustness. Both could easily be one watch collections and will last a long time if you do periodic servicing.

Don’t think I’m bashing the omega swatch btw, just don’t pay more than retail for it. Also, check out some of the reviews …
