Looks like Shohei Ohtani took the step up from Seiko ambassador to Grand Seiko ambassador:

see, that’s what they should have done with Yuto, instead of letting him getting poached by g-shock even after they gave him his own GMT! GS would be such a boss sponsor

I agree, especially with him winning the first ever skateboarding medal IN JAPAN, then going back-to-back in Paris? He deserved it.

right? Like I’m literally doubting GS’s business decision there. Fuck even ANA (one of Japan’s leading two airlines) is sponsoring Yuto atm the moment; if you already had him on Seiko 5 (like they had Ohtani on prospex), it seems like such a logical step/ progression!

i usually just lurk this thread, love seeing so many cool watches, especially the old japanese stuff. i'm curious if there is a good, go to resource for figuring out model and ideally value of vintage watches? specifically, i have a tudor? that i wear sometimes and a rolex datejust from 80s that is essentially nos. i've searched interweb a bit but like a lot of things, too many sites and bs to wade through. figured this would be a good place to start for more informed advice where to start.

@hayduke lives welcome to watch nerdery!
Can we see some pics of your Tudor and datejust? Can you not get a ballpark figure based off other listings on Chrono 24?

Happy with the khaki quartz! Also happy that I can set the watch down for a day or two and not have to worry about setting the time. (sorry I still don’t know how to embed a photo)

very fine watch sir! And yes, always good to have a quartz in the quiver for a quick grab and go.

Sweet looking watch, dig the minute track and pilot watch vibe with the triangle at 12 o'clock.

Keeping the quartz love going here with a Seiko SNE585 Solar Quartz. Sunray dial, can't tell in the pic. I got this for heavy abuse but it gets worn regularly. Seiko always has something weird in the low end prospex models, in this case no antireflective coating. On a dial that plays off light. Whut. Have a good CW21 nearby so may mod. Sorry, first watch pic, I feel like I really captured the 90% humidity and wrist hair.

Started getting into watches a bit over a year ago and wanted to share:

Orient Kamasu - my first and only automatic
Casio A158 w/ NATO strap
Timex Noah Collab Moonphase
Citizen Promaster Skyhawk JY0010-50E handed down to me by my grandfather

I like the accuracy and reliability of quartz but I feel like I have to own at least one automatic cause I really appreciate the mechanical aspect of it. Hoping to one day add a chronograph to my collection

In other news, squale finally dropped a 37mm diver (that isn't 37mm):

which sux because if it was 37mm, I would probably cop!

This is my watch - I believe it’s from 1952? Gold filled omega bumper. I bought it with funds acquired from scrapping copper I got from work.

I also had a Noah X Timex moon phase watch and wasn’t crazy about it. But once I saw used ones selling for up to $500, I sold that sucker hahaha.

What on earth is Rolex doing? I guess reinforcing that their fan boys will literally buy anything….
My exception to that statement is the two-tone OP with the grey dial, but I’m a sucker for grey dials!

Can be also said for Tudor. Kinda anti-climatic with this being their 100 year. They offer the BB58 GMT on 5-link and BB58 with METAS certification.

I was hoping for a new GMT color (like the 116710LN) or even a new Pelagos color.

That said, I’m loving the Zenith Chronomaster Sport Skeletons. The El Primero movement is so pretty.

blue BB54 is pretty cool, but not something you need to wait until your 100th anniversary to do! Monarch is interesting but should be 36mm max. And yes, zenith always has best looking movements

Looking forward to seeing the AP Swatch release even if it's just a pocketwatch on a lanyard, but the hype right now is absurd. Resellers started camping out for it yesterday in New York and they haven't even done a reveal yet  ::)

depends if said pins are pin and collar style or the threadable type, I’d find a local watch shop, they won’t charge you an arm and leg for a bracelet readjustment

I recently got a 37 mm Club Sport neomatik in petrol from Nomos. They somehow got a mechanical watch that can go 200m underwater into a case that's just over 8 mm. The  other watch I wear is a Tudor Ranger and it looks like a brick by comparison. It's immediately obvious with Nomos that the price point could be a lot higher, but I imagine they aren't budgeting nearly as much for marketing and the general public isn't buying based off branding.

The thing that people online don't understand is that the lugs are curved so they sort of wrap around your wrist. I have a skinny wrist and the watch fits like it's supposed to.

Tornek Rayville TR-660 pre-sale is open.

The TR-660 is a modern version of the TR-900, which was their work around to helping the Navy acquire and use the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms for their divers due to the "Buy American Act" introduced in the 1960s.

So if you want a Fifty Fathoms from a company that made them IN PARTNERSHIP with Blancpain, this is the model you want to get.

https://tornek-rayville.us/products/pre-order-tr-660-non-date-sapphire-inlay-deposit
