staying at my partner's parents house right now and get to play another sweet japanese guitar. we've got what i'm guessing is a 70s Hohner dreadnought HG 300 MIJ. It's lovely handmade guitar designed as a copy of the Martin d-28. Really sweet and easy to play. big sound. looking forward to putting some new string on it this week to see what we get
Certain MIJ acoustic guitars of a vintage era (mainly 70’s) that were an emulation of Martin’s are incredible instruments. I believe recently they’ve spiked a little in resale prices as the cat is kind of out of the bag.
Much better than many of the electrics that were coming out of Japan through the 60’s and early 70’s.
It sounds funny to say this, but when Japanese manufacturers started copying American designs is when they started hitting a stride in production quality. Hence the “lawsuit” guitars by the likes of Ibanez, etc.
