The killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers has unleashed a wave of protest unseen since the late 1960s. Over the last week tens of thousands of Americans have taken to the streets to take a stand against systemic police brutality. Considering the recent spike in attention to the Black experience in America, there’ve been some really inspiring efforts to amplify Black voices. On Twitter, I started seeing links threads directing users to Black restaurants, Black visual artists, Black musicians, and even Black candlemakers. (Candlemakers!).

Upon discovering that there was no list of Black-owned skate companies, I decided to crowd-source via Twitter and Instagram. Within an hour, I was inundated with retweets, DMs, and emails directing me to brands, shops, and even a couple of nonprofits. The list has since been received with a lot of warmth and enthusiasm. It was really fun to compile this list and I hope that people will take the crucial next step and cop some gear from these businesses.

I've been riding Black Label since 2001. Way ahead of the game.

while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I’m determined to get on that list.

it must be crazy when chico sells you something and the tables switch from "give me my money chico" to "giving my money to chico"
