aight, someone out there has to know what c1rca combat was
« on: October 07, 2020, 08:25:21 AM »
i know there's a stigma associated with knowing what the deal was with c1rca combat was, and if you want to remain anonymous you can, just send me a pm, or create a burner account, thats totally cool.

i always under the impression that c1rca combat was whatever c1rca morphed into, a rebranding of sorts but yesterday morning i was at my car dealership and for some reason in the waiting room they had a bmw magazine from 2012 (not a bmw dealership, and no i do not live in brazil), and a stack of skateboarder magazines from 2010. low and behold every issue had a c1rca combat double page spread and a normal c1rca ad as well. two seperate teams. the question i ask is why ?  :o

I think C1rca Combat was supposed to be their "hesh" brand. I vaguely remember them being marketed as being made with tougher materials than their standard line.

Now Axion Combat makes more sense.

When i was younger you had your Muska skaters who all wanted to be like Muska. Dressed like him, big headphones and everything. Even though some were really good there was also disdain for them amongst the other skate cliques.
When i was a kid i thought c1rca combats were a response to this so they could still sell shoes to the other groups of skateboarders.

My question would be why the extraneous detail about the one bmw magazine in a non-bmw dealership.  Why include that?

I’m not mad that you did.  It actually opened up a whole new panoply of questions: How did it get there?  Why has it survived in a (presumably) rival dealership for 8 years?  Did the employees write nasty things in it (“BMW sux!!!”) or draw funny mustaches on the people in it?  Are there photos of any human beings in it?  Or is it just pictures of cars?
When nothing in society deserves respect, we should fashion for ourselves in solitude new silent loyalties.

While all of this is true and the team was live.  The only real answer here is that circa combat is the Only way to live life!

Holy shit i completely forgot about those two being on circa combat. those were the days

there used to be a huge C1rca following in my local skate scene because we're a few cities north of the C1rca HQ as well as the local shop pushed C1rca super hard. I had to buy a pair of Allie 208's off of ebay last year so i could hold on to a little piece of my childhood.

I miss the days of seeing everyone skating around in Cero's, Tre's, Allie 205's as well as the abundance of AL50's at my middle school and high school. It felt like that shoe got worn by non-skateboarders as much as people wear janoskis now

Digging around and there's a bunch of dudes I barely recall being on Circa - James Brockman, Ryan Reyes, Taylor Kirby, Neen, Jack Olson, Jimmy Carlin, Sheldon, Walker Ryan

Wow, Ride Channel had a show called C1RCA HOUSE.

Combat division was super popular here when they first dropped. I remember seeing the Tre’s around a lot and the local shop at the time had these massive combat stickers on the floor.
Hope someone can chime in with more of a backstory on how the brand started

Edit: went on a YouTube hunt for any videos because I thought there was a promo sometime after they launched. Couldn’t find proof but did find this:

Who's local park is this? I gotta imagine one of y’all have been there haha

Maybe I’m employing a bit of revisionist history, but I want to say that Circa Combat was supposed to be their attempt at rebranding a  “core” line that sold only at skateshops. You had the more mainstream line that sold at Pacsun, and then the line that sold to local shops

Our Circa rep at the time gave me samples of the Tres a few months before Corca Combat was announced. They’re still the only pair of white leather shoes I’ve ever owned

Now that i think about it, there was C1rca, C1rca combat, and C1rca Select. I had to snoop around because i couldn't remember what it was called but do y'all remember C1rca Select? It was their division catered towards lifestyle shoes that had nicer materials and different branding, similar to etnies plus if you guys remember that as well.

throwing these in here for reference:

C1rca Combat ran like a scrapbook contest and I won like 4th place or something.

My prize was the Gerwer pro model shoes in a special colorway: made out of the fabric of one of Frank’s favorite flannel shirts.

Interesting piece of skate shoe history to own

Wish I still had the scrapbook I submitted. Circa never sent it back

Tho I’d like to think it’s just sitting somewhere collecting dust in Franks basement.

C1rca and C1rca COMBAT were doing it pretty big back then in the late 00s early 10s but then overnight it seemed they just fell apart. Their shoes were good, not the best looking, but they were durable. Maybe with all the AL50 models there are they'll make enough money to revive
