So is there a consensus SLAP favorite blank/shop deck?

Considering Tactics, Skate Warehouse, SoCal Skateshop.

I have some Active shop decks I snagged for $21 each which are surprisingly thick and crispy. Someone said they might be Anno Domini out of Colorado. They're 8.375" though and I really need 8.5".

https://www.adskateboards.com/blank-decks/

AD Woodshop sells their blanks as samples, I'm riding one right now. Shape is similar to a AWS / Habitat with a deeper concave. Pretty happy with it 3 sessions in.

any leads on the wheelbases for their shapes?

Interesting, I asked them yesterday and they gave me this for 8.5:

8.5x31.875" WB: 14.25" N: 7" T: 6.5"

I ordered 3 but idk how I feel about the decks being so short. I'm 6'2" and all the other 8.5's I've skated recently have been around 32.25". They could just be measuring them differently though.

What width you skating lobster? Do they feel short?

I’m 6 foot 3 and love the DLX 8.5x14.25x31.8 which measures 8.38 in reality.

6’5” and the quasi 8.5/31.75/14.25 shape is one of my favorite shapes ever. 32” is excessive imo

I'm on 8.25 and it does feel a bit short, but I've rode them with Mini Logo / Royals (less wheelbase extension) instead of my regular thunders.

Would have like it closer to 32 with a 14.25 WB, 14.25 gets to the point I'm on the verge of not enjoying the pop feel.

The actually have 2 shapes
ADSS - Anno Domini Steep Short
ADSL - Anno Domini Steep Long (32" and up), but they didn't have this mold ready at the time of ordering.

Pretty cool they have two options.

I guess that could be the most dividing factor with some brands, when some people want longer boards, others want shorter, so if you can choose, then it opens up more possibilities.

Also curious from the table above, the length stays the same but jumps from 14.25 in 8.38 to 14.5 in 8.5 which means the 8.5 would have shorter kicks.

I would be thinking sub 32 with 14.25 wb works, then over 32 with 14.5 wb works way better, but that is just me.

I've recently tried blanks/shop decks from a bunch of websites.
The chapman blanks on newyorkskateboards.com didn't list any measurements on the website. I ordered the 8.3 and it was 8.375 inches wide and 32.25 long with a 14.25 wheelbase. It was a nice medium concave with medium kicks and rounded slightly tappered noseand tail. A bit long for my liking but decent.
Currently riding a skatewarehouse script logo deck. It had the clutch wood stamp and sticker. It was 8.38 by 31.5 and 14.25. Kicks were very flat in a weird way that I can feel on the bottom of my feet. I've felt it before with other blanks from churchill/funbox decks back in the day. The shape  was nice though and had a nice squareish round nose and tail. Getting more used to it.
I also got a tactics blank boards with the white tail. The board came cracked on the nose already so I sent it back but the shape looked very similar to bbs boards I've skated from deathwish and antihero. Kinda bummed it was cracked but beware of this when ordering. Makes me wary of buying another because they screw you out of shipping with the return policy lol. Looked good besides that.
Ordered blanks from annodomini and Canada skateshop just waiting on them now.

What woodshop does Canada Skate Shop use?

In 2020 they used Generator / BBS but got blacklisted by them for giving away the industry secret. They went to clutch for a while, right now I think they are using a Canadian or China woodshop for the Steep and Sturdy range, but money is on China.

That most of the industry's decks actually come from a very small pool of manufacturers. But more so he was openly selling their blanks as-is, resulting in them getting flooded with order from people wanting to buy small MOQs from them.

From the Woodshop thread, not so much the shop boards as they do change a bit too easily to keep a list, but the aim is to have one going soon enough on there:

Woodshop list updated with some more changes.

A question for everyone:

Do you think there is a need to have shop boards listed separately in here too, or is that going to be too hard to keep updated?

Eg

Active - Anno Domini

Black Market Skates - BBS

Skate Warehouse - Clutch?

Tactics - BBS

Just to name a few that have been talked about recently.

35th - BBS last I’d seen.

That is interesting.

Saw the comment at 36 seconds and paused, but don't know if I will watch the rest of it though...

Ok, watched a bit more and a point he makes about the same woodshop with other brands being a lot more expensive, but doesn't really note the manufacturing process or the wood used for those boards, which could be lower grade ply or different species than Canadian Hard Rock Maple, if you really want to pick it apart.

Are the kicks really that similar / different too, or if it is not at all marked which end is which, would that guy know?

OK not deck related and not meaning to be nasty, but when he said ABEC 6 I had to stop and walk away for a minute.

He did a reasonable job though, overall.

Maybe should have stopped about 8 mins and left it at that.

I dunno if anyone from EU-UK is interested but DWINDLE blanks (which aren’t bad for the money) can be gotten from Decathlon for 30 euros.
Route one sell Globe(dwindle) blanks for 20£ currently. I have a feeling some route one boards are dwindle and the others are from the UK company. I’ve had a few before and they’re ok but lose pop and become brittle quite fast.

My guess is that they are made by Dwindle / DSM but they aren't the Resin-7 construction, I've seen lots of kids in my country skate Decathlon decks and they get soggy fast. Plus it's missing the signature Resin-7 deep and bass-y thump when you tap it against the ground. Likely the Resin or Resin Hybrid construction; suitable for kids and beginners (which is Decathlon's target market) but anyone who skates hard will find these aren't worth the money.

Globe still has the Resin-7 laser engraved on the top ply and on the cardboard insert. Dwindle does work with smaller local brands in Asia for decks too, I'm sure that's the case in EU as well.

Thought this could be added here.

Globe decks are not quite blanks, but may as well be, all natural ply, single colour paint with the word "GLOBE" in them, etc.

I did have a look at and stand on the Dwindle Globe decks the other day in a more mainstream shop and the two things that stuck out to me was the chunkiness of the board overall and the solid feel of it, not so much heavy, but definitely looked like thicker ply layers and all plain natural which just had such a different look to the other pro Dwindle boards in the same shop.

To stand on them though, they were stiff and not soft like some other cheaper decks, but I am happy not to have to deal with that end of the market, dealing more with the pro Dwindle decks, as per people I know who ride them and they hold up well, stay stiff, etc.

If dwindle made Resin-7 blanks, they'd own the space.

Globe decks are the way, PP prices for quality R7 decks, only in Steep Kicks + Mellow Concave combination, which is a medium by BBS standards.

How is the concave across and the kick steepness?

I call them as mellow.

Comparing it to decks I have lying around in my office
Concave lines up pretty close to DGK and Baker but still not quite as deep. The kicks are more mellow

Not as steep or deep as a SC and polar

Are the 8.5s just a pointy? Shape looks pretty perfect and I like that "Blankie" graphic a lot.
