I know this is a wheelbase thread but do you guys pay any attention the overall length of the board itself?

Of course. And the shape too. Oldschool shapes with a small nose balance out their long wb for example..

I look at the nose and tail length and wheelbase. Besides the wheelbase I just make sure the tail isn’t tiny, longer the better.  A really short nose would throw me off mentally though

You like the nose as the tail?

I did that sometimes as a kid, but I meant tail size relative to how tails are normally sized not a comparison to the lengths of a nose and tail on the deck. 6.75 - 7 is the best tail length for me

Aren't most popsicle noses in that range?

.

The average board has a nose of around 7 and a tail of around 6.5 with the wheelbase being most commonly 14.25 to 14.38 but of course that is just the average and in no way reflects on any and every board or brand out there.

For the most part, a lot of boards would go up in every dimension as they get bigger, but I think that has also changed somewhat, so now there are quite a lot of wider boards that are still shorter, or at least not as long as they have been in the past.

Not to compare the AH orange eagle 9 x 33 with 15 wb and 7.1 nose, 6.8 tail with something like the AH Horse Pill at 10", which is the same overall dimensions as the blue eagle 8.5, in this case the Horse Pill being 10 x 31.75 with 14.25 wb, 6.8 nose and 6.5 tail.

Some other boards do have longer kicks, or longer tails, including one I used to always ride which had 6.75" tail and was great at 32 long with 14.25 wb, but it was only 8.125 so not really anything to note in this thread, but I would definitely be keen to replicate that board in a wider option, eg something from 8.5 through maybe 8.75 to even a 9" wide deck.

Right now I have been bringing in the tail on a number of boards, just to replicate the slightly longer tail feel, so right now a DLX 8.5 x 32.18 with what was 14.38 wb is now 14.18 and feels great with that back truck slightly in, which would fit into boards in this thread, even if it didn't start out that way.

I really like how the double drilled baseplate, or in this case the drilled in deck on Thunders, works better for me, but I guess I am also a strange one in what I prefer, compared to the average skateboarder.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Nabbed a few of Abe's curb creep ZERO shape before they sold out: https://zeroskateboards.com/search?q=creep&options%5Bprefix%5D=last - guessing they only did 200 this run (for Zero and the Greater Miami shop).

Setting one up tomorrow. Just standing on it the length/extra long kicks seem to negate the feeling of a short wheelbase;  I can setup into my normal stance and not feel cramped in the footbed.

Will report back once setup. I liken it to the short WB primitive 8.25s, they feel fine as they're around 32" with the extra length on the tail. Shorter boards (31.75 and under) with short wb don't give me enough 'stance width' so I'm constantly trying to move the rear foot farther back and usually end up with my front foot in the pocket.

I'll say this tho, fucking nose and tail are beastmode, really curious if it wrecks everything but slides and grinds (which is what he mainly does).

I am also curious how that sort of board would skate, but I also wonder if it would be a good candidate for double drilling both ends to give it options, or maybe even drilling it out anyway if it feels too short in the wb or too long in the kicks.

When I drill in the back truck - more so baseplates than the deck itself now, which makes it like the V8 and I can put it in either position - I find that I am often a little too light on it and it is not as good for most ollies, flips, especially 360 flips because that trick tends to work better with a stock tail rather than a longer one.

The good thing though is skating transition, blunt tricks and most other things are a lot easier, so I do tend to get used to the drilled in boards for the most part.

I guess though, looking at those dimensions, I am still only riding a 7" nose and a 6.75" tail on my 8.38 boards, which now come down to 14.25 or less, but on the DLX China made short mold press 9 x 33 which had a 15" wb, I have both in, which would be 7.5 nose and 7.0 or so tail, down to about 14.3 wheelbase and it feels very comfortable and easy to do almost anything on.

So for sure the zero curb creep is a bit of boat (coming off the 9" double shovel Zane twin from heroin w/14.125"wb, mind), however, the short 13.75" WB isn't really a thing at all or at the very least, it's not noticable? Riding Slappy trucks on each.

What is going to take a bit to get used too is my stance and the long tail. Just jumping on the board and setting up 'normally' (front foot behind front bolts'ish) I tend to have almost 1.5" of tail I'm not using so I'm having to check/look down and move my rear foot back (It's also kind of steep.). The board and kick length balance out the short wb, so much so I'd say any benefit of a short WB for flip tricks is negated/regulated by the heft/length of the board.

It's super fun to skate and krooks of any variety are absurdly easy mode. Tough switching off the dbl shovl, I've been on it for weeks straight (rarity).

The description for those curb creepers says designed for curbs, what makes a short wb and long kicks good for curbs?

Short wb makes it easier to do a tight turn into a slappy. Like think going straight at the curb and then doing a 90 degree slap..

Long kicks, dunno, space to stand on for slides and grinds?

All of the above. A short WB is just more maneuverable.

Long kicks also give you a bit more leverage (especially from tail) if you are curb dancing combos like tail slides to switch krook, short tails have always sucked (for me) in that regard; and as someone who normally skates twin noses/hybrids, the extra long/wide tail helps make a regs pop more symmetrical feeling.

Hammers has a Jason Lee/No country for old men homage decks up that’s 9.0"x 13.75 and 8.25"x 13.75".
I’m not sure when it’s for sale but I got an email about it today. Still not up on the website yet.
