The last time I skated Royals must've been 2001?  I only had one set but remembered liking them. Which is to say they were ass because I was 20 years younger and had no taste back then...

looks like if complete trucks, indy and thunder had a 3way

its either the best of both worlds or the worst. Either way can someone get a review and wheelbase out?

Lol why. Idk anyone who's gonna see this and be like yo im gonna try some royals now.

Is crailtap still behind royal? If so, can it and pay carl Aikens all the money they would have spent on more trucks.

DM Royal on Instagram like a man to send Ben Degros a truck so he can review them, though he said he's trying to break the madness and stick to just 1 pair of trucks.

his last krux review was underwhelming, seems really over it
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Out of all skate companies, is a different truck company the hardest sell?  Seems like people are stuck in their ways with the big 4 and won't try a new one as easily as you might with a different deck brand.
[close]

It's not that people won't try, some [of us] do, and report back that they were shit, so no reason in trying.

I think these days you have to bring something new to the table.

Theeve brought Ti to the truck market
ACE brought the best turning truck out
Krux had the Downlow Kingpin
Tensor went best grinding/lightest truck (then modified that with the ATGs)

You have to have a functioning gimmick in addition to turning well or having unique geo.

What does a new royal bring to the market, not to their brand? Most KP clearance compared to who? Rapid Forged construction (marketing)? A chunky inverted kingpin (if they follow their existing style). Sacred Geometry (marketing again) but is this new geo or just the same from current models?

The truck market already has enough variety to satisfy everyone, tho I think if Thunder made a longer baseplate more OCD folks would ride them...and if they somehow kept their geo and managed to lessen the wheel bite...

That all said, you know never, they could lower that inverted pin, hollows could be nice and lite, WB could be right between a Thunder and Indy and they could be a great turning, yet stable on center truck with a decent height and extended baseplate.

From what I remember, royals are around 50.5 mm high. Quick pop. Can be ridden very loose. I didn’t have as much wheelbite as I thought I would. Metal seemed softer, ground easier. Last time I had them was way before I thought about effective wb. Can’t remember the baseplate either. Just what I can remember for the old ones. I probably won’t end trying the new ones, I try and only buy stuff from skateboard shops

Can someone explain why is hand pouring pivot cups and bushings are a thing???
I really don't mind if a machine does it. Probably less wasteful, and I feel sorry for the guy who has to tip hot liquid urethane into tiny molds all day.

I think Spitfire always mentions their wheels are hand cut as well, which again, I'd think you'd want to automate that process.

About 3 years ago I slept over at this friends place and in the morning I was late for my work bus so he borrowed me his deck to push to the bus stop. He had some Royals on and I was surprised how much they carved. Really surfy feeling and felt super fun just to cruise around. I can't attest for any grind feeling, pop or quality in general but I remember being impressed with the turn.

Every time someone posts a Royal thread, I feel compelled to respond with the story of that one time when I set up a pair and just couldn’t get them to feel or turn right and then ended up cracking em and breaking the kingpin on the back truck skating flatground in my garage on the second day I skated them.

If you get past the 12-year old brand feeling, the last trucks were actually decent. Easily the deepest turning trucks for such a low height, it kinda fills that gap where it turns deeper like aces but have Thunder height. I probably won't skate them because I found my perfect combo but I like that they're around still.. Just in case.

I'll give the 159 version a shot.  I like supporting Crail and I appreciate ground up truck redesigns.

Not exactly ready to swim across an ocean for Royals but... anyone see/hear any news about this? I want to set up a 7.5 - 7.75 and it would be cool to try out a small truck with the 50.5mm height.. Hate the turn on lows.

Didn't see this back then but... Indy (stage 10 or 11) forged baseplate with stage 10 hanger. 51.5mm high and turns real nice. Getting harder to get stage 10 hangers though.

Considering AF1 aces ended up being somewhat of a dud (compared to the classics) from the opinions here, it would be funny if these were actually good.

I'd try them if they're as inexpensive as their other trucks ($35ish).

Always kinda had a soft spot for the royal logo, and the similarity in name to “Royal Trux” (the druggy noise rock band). Never skated em tho.

If they get a ton of good buzz I might try a set out, but after a year of Covid-induced gear madness I finally found a good setup for my current skate practices, and I’m not trying to fuck with it unnecessarily.

Had a similar experience on a friends board. Thought they were Indy's and was like, "oh Indy's do have a good turn" and he was like "those are Royals". I'm also a sucker for the flat ass look and the fact that pretty much no one skates them, definitely might try these if the 149's are lower than 55mm.

I have the 5.25 inverted kingpin joints setup now on a Real 8.06 and am having a blast on them. I heard someone describe them as a surfy Thunder and I completely agree. For what it’s worth, they extend the WB by around +2.87 (I could be slightly off) so keep that in mind if you put them on a deck with a short WB.

I messaged Vincent Alvarez and he told me the new ones might be out in a few months but not sure if he even knows.

There’s probably a bizarro Slap universe somewhere and everyone there says the big 3 are Krux, Royal, and Ruckus.

Apparently there something like eleven different dimensions, so In some other alter dimension, this is probably true.

If these are like an indy thunder hybrid with lower height but solid turn I'll try em. My second ever pair of trucks were royals so we got some catching up to do. Anyone know how much the wheel base extension on these will be?
