wouldnt be surprised if its the same mold, both use dwindle wood
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

The top graphic is cool, to look at, but I can't do transparent grip. Even if I could, I honestly think it would bug me too much when I'd look down.

One older Habitat (still BBS) deck I have has a fairly normal / short tail.

I had a quick look at Tactics for both AWS and Habitat and there seems to be some curious figures, but the bigger boards I know the sizes of were correct, so maybe the 8 and 8.1 decks do have significantly shorter kicks, especially the tails, with most being about 6.4 or less.

That is what the one I have is, about 6.375 or something similar.

On a German found I found one 8.125 (sucio) with Details on tail length and this has 6.5

Means alien 8.125s and 8s have shorter tails too. Damn.

But really, I had only just had breakfast and then checked online and this was one of the first things I saw, so had a quick look and there you are.

Even though I don't really like 8+ boards.. I've seen a few 8.00's that kinda interest me... so ... how are 8" decks with 14" wb? Basically the same? THink these are mostly 8x31.5 with 14"wb. My assumption is that it would feel the same, minus the extra width
[close]

I would say yes, similar feel to 7.75 / 7.81 boards only a touch wider, as per when I went to 8" they felt a bit wider but I found I had more room for my feet.

Then I went 8.1 as the shapes were better, and then up again, but that is just me.

The 8" deck with 139s (or similar) trucks and 50 to 52 mm wheels was pretty much the go to for a long time and still is I guess for a lot of people, even though now I think the average is more like 8.25 with 144s (or similar) trucks.
[close]

Cool thanks. I'm pondering an 8 (with 139s), I'd probably max out there. 8.25 is too much for me, especially when they're 32+ length too
[close]
  crail has a 8.18 x 31.5 x14wb I've had two of those I really like

I've been looking at palace jahmal Williams board is 8.25 x31.5 with 14

If I'm not skating a shaped board Im skating a 7.875 x 31.4 x 14 pass~port
I buy that shape whenever I see it on sale here so im stocked and stuck on that shape for a while.

I am interested in that shape too. Or any 8.25 from Palace in that matter. I just never had a dwindle board before and I am not sure I can trust the online measurements. Isn't the tail on Palace decks a bit shorter? Like 6.4 or something? Any pals have the true self measured specs for Palace 8.25 decks?

Awesome list!

The 8.12 Real Oval deck looks interesting.
Are they doing more decks like this?

Alien mind control looks good too.
I think the habitat tri color pod 8.125 has the exact same shape. Will try them and see how the tail (6.5) feels with venture v hollows compared to longer tails (FA 8.18 or that real oval 8.12)

The 8.12 Real Oval looks like it's staying in the catalog for the foreseeable future. Just a heads up, the tail is 6 3/8 so it may be too short for you. The 8.06 Full SE is pretty much the same shape with a 1/16th taper at the back bolts, a 6.5 tail and 1/8 longer nose.

I'm not sure where your measurements are from but I had both shapes in the hoard and measured them, just out of my own curiosity. During Covid, I mail ordered a Real 8.28 and got the right graphic wrong shape which was the 8.12. I skated it anyway and liked it a lot so I measured it and guessed wrong and bought a 8.06 Full SE. They are really close and I didn't realize my mistake until I had it in my hand. Still a very nice shape also but I threw it in the stack and bought another couple 8.12s once I realized what I actually had. I just happened to have them both on hand and honestly wanted to drill down on how they are different. From what I can tell the 8.12 is 1/8 shorter in the nose and tail but overall a fuller shape.

The measurement you have for the nose is right but the length is actually listed as 31.38 which I think is accurate. On the actual width, who knows? Looks closer to 8.06 to me but yeah it could be 8.12 I guess.

Checked two different German sites that say 6.6 and 6.6something.
Tactics says 6.5

Now I’m confused. Ordered that one cause I thought it had a longer tail (and cause it was cheap)

Checked FA decks and those sites say tail getting shorter when you size up. At least 8.5s have shorter tails than 8.18 on the site i checked.
Still people skate 8.5 FA on high ventures.

I really need to check some different sizes on ventir s to see if tail length / wb really is such a difference to me.

I’ll skate an 8“ 14 wb 31,5 6.4 tail bbs next.
Then the 8.12 real team
Then probably my 8.18 hockey
And maybe a 8.25 quasi Proto shape after. Or a b2 baker 8.25

Need to mess around with different stuff to know what I like or if it makes a difference to me

I remeasured and took a pic since you bought an 8.12 x31.38 and probably wanna know what you're getting. Apologies for my grubby kitchen and my coffee cup method but it was hard to hold it tight to get an accurate read and take a pic at the same time. I still think when I hold it tight and straight and look right down on it it's 6.38 but again yeah sure maybe it's 6.5 but no longer than that. Please note I start my measurements with tailor tape on the 1 because the end has a brass tab on it that makes it hard to tell if you're at absolute zero.

Will measure mine when it arrives in a few days.
Under 6.5 would be really disappointing.

Do we measure from mid bolts or end of them?

And I got to be honest. I just can’t imagine that this little difference makes a difference. But like I said I will check different decks and decide for me

Thanks!

Will measure mine when it arrives in a few days.
Under 6.5 would be really disappointing.

Do we measure from mid bolts or end of them?

I measured from the very end.

The ail is going to measure longer if you measure on the bottom of the deck like that.

I didn't even think about that. Probably a job for the old tape measure honestly.

What is the plan with this info/data point? Genuinely curious.
On the other end of the spectrum, I just buy almost random parts, hurl them together, and then continue to suck, until I get some other wild ideas. The ideas come from being influenced by skateboard media, and whisps of memory, involving sessions long, long ago…when I ‘ripped’ (I never ripped, but there was a time when I was better than this current time, by a lot).

Anybody can tell me the tail length of 8.125 Alien and habitat decks?
I heard aws  have pretty long tails, but what about the 8 and 8.125 decks?
[close]

One older Habitat (still BBS) deck I have has a fairly normal / short tail.

I had a quick look at Tactics for both AWS and Habitat and there seems to be some curious figures, but the bigger boards I know the sizes of were correct, so maybe the 8 and 8.1 decks do have significantly shorter kicks, especially the tails, with most being about 6.4 or less.

That is what the one I have is, about 6.375 or something similar.

Damn you’re quick 😄

On a German found I found one 8.125 (sucio) with Details on tail length and this has 6.5

Means alien 8.125s and 8s have shorter tails too. Damn.

I have a AWS 8.125 on my wall and measure that for you.
But I am in Europe and all the AWS decks I had were made in China. But they were all great quality.

AWS filmworks 8.125 deck

Length: 31.95"
Wheelbase: 14.25"
Nose: 7.1"
Tail: 6.7"

All measured straight across.

Let me know if you want pictures.

Thanks! Interesting! Europe too...
But I think the shops I buy at have the bbs ones

Recently got a bbs 8.125 AWS Joey Guevara in UK. 31.625/6.8 N/6.6 T/14 WB

Can any tall guys sound off on riding 14” WB? I’m curious to try one of the AH Misregistered eagles but I’m worried it’s going to be way too compact for me (6’4”, size 13 shoe). The responsiveness and pop of a 14” wb sounds good but maybe I’d be safer going with a Real Full SE with a 14.25” wb
