It seems like people are frustrated at two separate things and lumping them into one.
I don’t watch the Nine Club nearly as much as I used to, I’ll watch them breakdown a part I really like but otherwise I think it got kinda stale for me.
Part of the reason I got over it is their hesitancy to comment on the inequalities of skating. They were very vocal (and rightfully so) during the protests and racial injustice movement last year which was awesome, but never addressed the other major issue in skate culture and society as a whole, gender inequality and LGBTQ issues.
I think Nine Club needs to be more forward about these issues, talk about them, bring some of the awesome women and LGBTQ+ riders to talk about things. Hell, don’t have to go far when Breana Geering rides for Girl and is absolutely killing it.
On the flip side, I think it is mad goofy to expect the Nine Club to speak for Craig. Shoutout to OP for asking Jeron, but if you’re expecting Crob or any of these other dudes to be the spokesperson for Craig and denounce it, that’s silly? As stated before, these are “old heads” of Craig, what do you expect from them?
Think of it like the NBA or something, that be like asking a player who’s jersey is retired in the rafters to give a Organization Wide statement about what some shitball rookie does on his spare time. That’s not their job.
I guess what I’m saying is hold the Nine Club accountable for not being as active in societal injustice as they should be. I’m right along side you, they should be talking about these things, especially when they’re associated with people perpetrating these injustices. Be critical of them for dodging not speaking on it for so long, cause I am too. As arguably one of the biggest source for skateboarding news online, they need to address the bad things in skating just as much as they shine light on all the good. They need to improve.
What I think is kooky is expecting Jeron or Crob or any of these dudes to be the spokesperson for Craig. Take that out on Mike, Rick, and Megan. They should be addressing it because it’s their fucking company and it’s their duty to fix the shit show that is the Craig camp. Get mad at them for just shuffling Yonnie under the rug and how shittily they handled KA.
In conclusion, be critical of the Nine Club being overly optimistic skate journalism that doesn’t address issues that needs to be fixed and be critical of Craig for being that shit show it is right now, don’t get them twisted.
