I got Jeron Wilson to comment on Yonnie Cruz
« on: May 08, 2021, 09:44:31 PM »
In the live video going on now I asked Jeron budget or buttery: Yonnie Cruz. He said budget and said a little something. Everyone else in the room was quiet as fuck after that and Crob looked so uncomfortable. Lol

Lol props. Crob and the gang are so fake-positive about everything, it's nice to hear someone actually confronted them with something real.

100%

Eldy straight left and was like “well on that note...”

Jeron or even Steezus were the ones I expected to say something initially. Still late af, and sucks it had to come from a prompt and not from feeling like something needed to be said regardless.

Touched on it? In a way, yes. But saying Craig need not say anything because it was an individual's actions does not cut it. They were using that individual's actions, name and rep to represent their brand. They were endorsing that individual. Weak.

Out of all the dudes, Jeron was always the most likely to touch on it. I get where he's coming from, but I can't say I agree entirely.

I think the first reaction is to hold face and let Yonnie deservingly eat his own shit. However, the whole idea is to bring it to attention so it does get talked about and ways we can all better ourselves which is much needed in this culture. Maybe even promote things like consent is cool. Sweeping it under the rug doesn't benefit anyone. If you're homie is acting a fool, hold them accountable.

Would have been better to have some sort of acknowledgement from the company rather than people hassling their ambassadors to even try to say something on it. I don't even think the older crew really even hangs with the young gen really so it must be awkward for them to even be affiliated

Also side note...I don't want to come off judging or anything but Eldy seemed a lil drowsy there. I hope he's good to drive and that's just a rare occasion. Maybe he's just slightly sleepy. Just don't want anything bad to happen

Yes, Girl should not be held “liable” for it, but how fucking hard is it to just condemn it even in the abstract?!?!   If people didn’t make a stink about it in the comments (which they were deleting) then nothing would have even happened to Yonnie

Blew my mind that there was finally an ad in Thrasher about consent and on the next fucking page was a Rip N Dip ad.

I agree. Just because he's an individual doesn't mean they shouldn't address his fuck up and let the industry and community know they're not supporting nor endorsing anyone who does shit like that. But what do I know? I'm just a middle aged skateboarder posting on slap at 6am about a dude with herpes.

And yet their VP kicked of a rider in a very public and slanderous interview because said rider apparently wasn't up front about his new shoe endorsement situation after getting shafted by Lakai.

Nah, fuck Jeron. Telling people they should “let it go” while Chris chews into the mic is almost more dismissive than not acknowledging it at all. Cop out answer to defend the institution that’s allowed them to milk it for decades.

What do you want from them ?

They had absolutely no knowledge of it and absolutely no hand in it.

Jeron is a dad with a family. He's probably only briefly met Yonnie a handful of times briefly. Or maybe not at all.

Why the fuck is he obligated to make a statement?

What do you want from them? On air execution?

At this point, how much more could you ask for? Yonnie made a public apology and stepped down from pro skateboarding. His life is already going to be dramatically different from here on out, not saying he didnt deserve it cause he did, but it seems like a lot of you guys are gonna keep poking at this matter till the guy blows his brains out. Is that what you want? Theres not much more anyone can say, we all know how fucked that situation was, I think Jeron really just told it how it is

Exactly.

I don't see what else can be achieved at this point. The only real important part is that the victims get the help they need.

Jeron Wilson doesn’t owe you shit. The nine club doesn’t owe you shit. Craig doesn’t owe you shit. Even Yonnie doesn’t owe you shit. Unless you were involved in what happened, you’re just another bystander with an opinion on someone’s business you have no business with.
The victims are owed. That’s the bottom line. And Yonnie should be apologizing to them and making things right with them (and himself). Awareness is good, and we are all aware of what happened.

Props to him for addressing it at all and in a vacuum it sounds fair enough to me, but remember the context of how Craig responded to the KA allegations. With the love potion board. Wonder if that’s how they plan on eventually publicly addressing Yonnie, by mocking the victims and giving the perpetrator a portion of the proceeds.

Why would a skateboard company have to answer for an individual’s degenerate behavior? It’s not like they were aware he had herpes on his dick, and even if they were aware, they wouldn’t be able to stop him from raping a woman, because they don’t know the dynamics of any of his relationships. They’ve acknowledged the victim by firing him, statement made.

How old are some of y’all commenting on this? Normal people don’t actually like to talk about rape because it is triggering to survivors.

No, Jeron is not personally obligated to make a statement. But he did, and it fucking sucked. I think if your stance for something that serious  is to “get over it” like his is, you’re a shitty person.

And regarding Crail as a whole, nobody is suggesting that they are personally responsible for Yonnie’s actions. But the fact that they have a loaded track record for behavior akin to this and continue to sweep it under the rug shows how much they actually care about it. And if that’s their prerogative for handling these situations, so be it. But any sensible person with their ear to the ground understands why that is not a good move in today’s  climate, and ultimately it is their reputation that will rightfully suffer.

Bingo. Like, no fucking shit Craig shouldn't be held liable for Yonnie's behavior, but they should at least explain publicly why they let one of their pros go seemingly out of nowhere.

For everyone in this thread talking about how Craig shouldn't feel obligated to make a statement, consider this: Multiple victims of Yonnie are calling on his ex-sponsors to name and condemn his behavior. This would send a message to the rest of the skate world that this behavior will not be tolerated, and might deter a good amount of skaters from following in Yonnie's footsteps. The fact they're opting to remain silent is pure cowardice.

I give Jeron some props for actually speaking on the issue, but his rant about how Girl shouldn't have to say anything was moronic. As for Crob--wow, what a pathetic little man. Been getting paid for doing nothing for 20+ years and is apparently afraid to bite the hand that feeds him, even if that means simply saying what Yonnie did was wrong. The only reason I'd give him a pass for his silence at this point is if there is some legal reason he can't speak on this issue, but I doubt that's the case.

It seems like people are frustrated at two separate things and lumping them into one.

I don’t watch the Nine Club nearly as much as I used to, I’ll watch them breakdown a part I really like but otherwise I think it got kinda stale for me.

Part of the reason I got over it is their hesitancy to comment on the inequalities of skating. They were very vocal (and rightfully so) during the protests and racial injustice movement last year which was awesome, but never addressed the other major issue in skate culture and society as a whole, gender inequality and LGBTQ issues.

I think Nine Club needs to be more forward about these issues, talk about them, bring some of the awesome women and LGBTQ+ riders to talk about things. Hell, don’t have to go far when Breana Geering rides for Girl and is absolutely killing it.

On the flip side, I think it is mad goofy to expect the Nine Club to speak for Craig. Shoutout to OP for asking Jeron, but if you’re expecting Crob or any of these other dudes to be the spokesperson for Craig and denounce it, that’s silly? As stated before, these are “old heads” of Craig, what do you expect from them?

Think of it like the NBA or something, that be like asking a player who’s jersey is retired in the rafters to give a Organization Wide statement about what some shitball rookie does on his spare time. That’s not their job.

I guess what I’m saying is hold the Nine Club accountable for not being as active in societal injustice as they should be. I’m right along side you, they should be talking about these things, especially when they’re associated with people perpetrating these injustices. Be critical of them for dodging not speaking on it for so long, cause I am too. As arguably one of the biggest source for skateboarding news online, they need to address the bad things in skating just as much as they shine light on all the good. They need to improve.

What I think is kooky is expecting Jeron or Crob or any of these dudes to be the spokesperson for Craig. Take that out on Mike, Rick, and Megan. They should be addressing it because it’s their fucking company and it’s their duty to fix the shit show that is the Craig camp. Get mad at them for just shuffling Yonnie under the rug and how shittily they handled KA.

In conclusion, be critical of the Nine Club being overly optimistic skate journalism that doesn’t address issues that needs to be fixed and be critical of Craig for being that shit show it is right now, don’t get them twisted.
