Glick looks like Albert Hammond Jr. from The Strokes. Dude puts on a mean live show as a solo act. Turn of the century Indie rock probably isn’t well received on Slap, but that’s fine. The similarities are uncanny.

I don’t think Strokes are considered indie rock by any metric.   I think they get lumped under the 00s rock revival with White Stripes and a bunch of The (thing) type bands in the grand classification of things, or that post 9/11 NY scene with Interpol and Yeah Yeah Yeahs
[close]

Haha that whole era of early 2000s garage rock revivalists were lumped categorically into indie (albeit erroneously, in most cases, obviously ). I think a lot of people run the genre title for nostalgic reasons, myself included. Did you ever read Meet Me In The Bathroom? Fun little read if you have a soft spot for that time period of music.
I’m a huge fan of The Strokes so I bought that book when it came out but I heard Julian and the boys weren’t too fond of it after reading it.
i like the tiny headed bear who says nice stuff to everyone.

All of those bands would have been considered Indie Rock when they came out at least because the labels that put out their first stuff were indies. Granted that shit got mainstream really quick and then I think the era pretty much ended. If it starts roughly with Homestead Records it ends with that crossover to the mainstream. Shit got weird when my tweener cousins were hyped on Linkin Park and Modest Mouse.

I'm a Quasi superfan and I like Glick a lot so if this happened I'd be hyped. I think it's a gag though

Fucking weird. I just went on a bike ride and saw the Quasi team at the post office. Then Glick showed up, but he’s from Chicago so I didn’t think anything of it.
damn that's sick. were they sending it?

i absolutely cannot understand the foundation slander happening in this thread already. i will start taking names

Sure foundation doesnt pay but i would argue theyve had the best team in skating for the last 5 years.

A team of core guys who fucking rip compared to that necessary evil video that just droped, which is pure cringe.

Best team? LOL. They would not even be top 20. A team consisting of a bunch of dudes who do 50-50's on handrails and Corey Glick.

Corey Glick, Dakota Servold, Aiden Campbell,  Cole Willson
Dylan Wittkan, and Jullian Lewis are all heavy fucking hitters not to mention they lost Nick Merlino who switch ollied El toro.

Its okay if you dont like them but to say they arent top 3 in skateboarding makes you look like a iackass.

This is the second time I’ve been on a bike ride and seen the Quasi team in Chicago, both times Justin Henry was full send. Gil got some nice back smiths. Bobby De Keyzer skates fast and looks really angry.

The foundation logo is a moon with a star, obviously a joke post looking like he’s mid calling them out for ripping it off. Foundation hasn’t been relevant for a while so I’m assuming anyone not familiar with the logo is young/dumb. Not your fault....go watch that’s life art bars subtitles and seagulls
[close]

Art bars was ahead of its time and still probably my favorite video ever.

Art bars is so good. The music, editing... Everything. Fucking love that video... Remember the DVD??? With The Good Times Are Killing Me Tour??? Justin Roy kickflip front boarding that broken prefab skatepark rail... Still so good.

Foundation has done a great job of resuscitating itself over the years. It's one of the few legit brands that started from 100% skating and non-serious/silliness. Anyone shitting on it should look back on its history and compare it to your trendy brand you love so much. Guaranteed your flash in pan brands wish they had that kind of staying power.

I like Foundation where it’s at now but would like to see this move. Also where has Cole Wilson been? I’d assume he got injured maybe. Don’t think I’ve seen any skating by him since kotr

I would back this. He's too good to be on Foundation. Getting on Quasi would probably help him get on Vans proper too

This part is one of the more memorable parts of the last 5 years and I frequently return to it.

Has he put out any footage recently?

I'd also be totally okay with him on Quasi. He's a great fit the more I think about it.

Also, this part is absolutely one of the best from the last 5-10 years imo. When I first watched it, I got that epic mind-fuck feeling like when I watched Jerry in Bag of Suck.

1000% agree. Music, innovative trick selection, style, editing, filming - Glick's part really does have it all as does Jerry's. Undeniably in my personal top 10 parts of all time. I'm also a massive slut for Alex G so that might have something to do with it.

considering most of the foundations pros have had to work fulltime jobs outside of being a pro skater for them (only getting royalties from board sales), id hope chad looks after his pros more than this legacy brand that reinvents itself so frequently.

I'd hope so too but just because I'm hoping it doesn't mean it's true. Lots of guys on bigger brands still have to work jobs so I'm personally not going to assume Quasi is doing so well that their guys don't have to even though I hope it's the case. Say what you will about Foundation reinventing itself frequently but their riders generally stay, they don't have a high turnover rate on team members... now maybe their guys don't generally have a lot of options on that front and that's why but all of this is conjecture and guessing.

Hope it's the case and if anyone has actual insight to what the numbers are like please enlighten

Quasi riders not having to work outside of skating probably has more to do with shoe brands wanting to sponsor/pay someone on a cool company than they do someone who rides for a company who isn’t as cool.

I'm sure Palace, Polar, Quasi, FA/Hockey etc are all really envious of Foundations continued existence. Foundation doesn't have any 'staying power', it's simply easy enough to keep a board brand alive if the people involved back it enough.

Also the straight disrespect they showed someone like Corey Duffel who more or less carried that brand for a long stretch there was gross.

I wish the Skate Talk Live episode of the That's Life reunion was still up.
