I stopped there on the way back from Montana last fall.  Holy shit it's slick.  I bailed in the back bowl and my foot slid on the transition while running out.  I ended up spraining my foot and was off skating for about 6 weeks, and a few more before I could do any flips.

NGL the street skating in MT is non existent and some of those towns can be kind of sketchy to "outsiders".  Even whitefish/kalispell which I found surprising.  but that is 2017 info

next week I'm going on an Evergreen tour through MT but coming from the east so I could report back but maybe it will be too late

for sure let me know of any insights you get from your trip! im heading out in July

theres some interesting street stuff to skate in shelby, greatfalls and helena. did a trip maybe 5 or 6 years ago. cops were chill but the townies will be a problem, even if youre from canada they aint about it.

Montana native here.

Missoula and Helena have good parks and some decent street skating. Best towns to go out for beers too. Hit up Board of Missoula and they’ll set you straight. I’m from great falls. We have a huge park but the town is a fucking dumpster.

Also I’ve heard nothing but good things about Boise and the dudes at Prestige.

Oh man you’re very wrong about this. There are so many street spots in both states it’s nuts. Here are a number of spots in Montana.

Missoula: probably the least amount of street spots of any city in Montana but also the best place to be social wise. Caras park has a really dope big 3 stair that is similar to Wallenberg. Russell street near the mountain has an amazing 2 stair with banks on both sides. The courthouse has nice recycled plastic benches, 5 in a row and you can get very creative. The campus has an ample amount of spots as well from a big manny pad to plenty of stair sets

Butte:  The best spots for any city are in Butte and you can legally drink beer on the street. Take the Montana avenue exit off of i90 and the exit overpass has an amazing gap. Proceed up the street and you’ll find an sf style hill with all sorts of amazing spots that are awesome to film on. The college campus has a perfect 15 stair rail if you’re trying to send something. They also have a ditch that is like a skatepark, it’s freaking nuts

Bozeman: actually Bozeman has even less street spots than Missoula but the campus is fun for sure.

Billings: if you’re wanting to street skate this is where you need to be. Sky view high school has amazing benches across a grass gap. Downtown is loaded with so many spots that you can just skate anywhere and will find something.  The heights has three separate gaps that are amazing. Go to Mackenzie river pizza and you’ll see a huge grass gap in front of McDonald’s and then a smaller one in the parking lot. Keep driving up the road about 1/2 mile on the same side is the old “video library gap”. It’s like a seven stair and super fun. Across the street from there is a really cool flat bar over a gap you skate over. Castle rock junior high has what looks like a skate park in the back of the school. Tons of stuff to skate there.

Idaho: for Idaho I suggest Idaho falls and Pocatello. IF auditorium has the finest handrails a five stair and a nine stair. The downtown has all sorts of cool stuff to skate and the place is rapidly growing so there are always new spots. Every high school is loaded with stuff worth checking out

Pocatello: go to campus. It’s a blast.

Killer list! Doing a quick skatepark trip with the homies through MT in a few weeks but would love to hit some non-park terrain along the way. Any chance I could get a little more intel on the ditch in Butte? Or any other decent ditches or bank spots? We’re traveling through Bozeman, Butte, Missoula, and Whitefish.

Cheers!

Eastern MT is a trove of parks in a row, spreading from Missoula. The stretch south is Stevensville, Hamilton, Darby.

Go north and you got St Ignatious, Polson, Kalispel, Whitefish.

If you're on I-90 west of Missoula, you got Alberton and Superior.

Clinton with the mini-combi is just east, and the strip DIY is near or in Missoula (still gotta make it there...)

Not sure when your trip is, but FWIW mid-July there's an annual event at Big Sandy. The homie said he met Lance Mountain, Steve Olson, and Red, plus more there
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

Spend time in Missoula, theres like 10 Evergreen parks within an hour of there. I skated Arlee like 2 days after it opened, super fun but it was like 100 degrees.

Flathead Lake is sick, my friends live in Big Fork and have a sick boat. They do wake surf/lake tours, if youre interested hit me up,I'll connect you. Good thing to do on a super hot day.

Livingston, Stevensville, and Deer Lodge were my favorite parks, but theyre all unique and have their own fun little features.
Superior was my favorite of the smaller ones.

Hamilton park is big. Frisco CO was my local so Im used to skating the bigger Evergreen stuff, but If you arent into big tranny/flow, there isnt much there.

Fux yeah thanks for bumping this thread. Gonna be spending some time in Missoula, boise and Portland between national park visits. The list will definitely come in handy. Just skated my first evergreen park and I'm definitely looking forward to checking some out once I'm busted

Leaving out quite a few. The route now is Arlee, St Ignatius, Ronan, Pablo, Polson, Columbia Falls, Whitefish. I've always hated the Kalispell park. If you get wild, you could go over to Troy and skate their park/DIY.

If you want the ultimate evergreen park, you should go to Browning. Evergreen are not my favorite parks though. But the bonus of Browning is you'll be right next to Glacier.

Missoula has plenty of street spots. Lots of good, old spots that haven't seen a session in many years. The crew at Board of Missoula has a map of street spots. The strip DIY is next to Fort Missoula park. Kinda SW of all the sports fields and next to where all the old tanks are.

Butte has pretty amazing hills.

If you're trying to street skate in Idaho, Boise is the place to go. Fun parks too.

Spokane has some fun spots.

Checking out Missoula next weekend. Got in late and had dinner in downtown Boise last night and there was like ten teen shredders out in the streets tearing it up. No one batted an eye, it was lovely. Was so juiced to skate I went and pushed around when I got back to the hotel. Can't wait to check out the parks and go back downtown today.

Good looks, need to update my mental parks map. Don’t think I’ve hit Pablo or Columbia Falls.

Joe Albi is probably the most universal skatepark in Spokane, but riverfront is the main hub these days, and hillyard is fun for a classic mid-2000s, big bowl Grindline park.

DM me if anyone wants a scoop on DIYs or spots in Spokane or the nearby locale

I've had fun pushing around downtown Boise. I'm sure the Prestige guys will share spots. Although they're likely closed tomorrow. Rhodes park is right there and lit up late. I really enjoyed Molenaar park last time I was there. Grab pizza from Americana and coffee from Push and Pour to support all the skater businesses.

Rad! Glad you had fun there.

Holler if you need some specific Missoula suggestions. I’ve spent a lot of time there. But the crew at board of Missoula are really nice and are more up to date than me.

I’ll be passing through Missoula in a couple weeks, already got some parks mapped out but would love any recommendations for ditches, DIY’s, pools, food and drink!

First stop Board of Missoula. Great shop and crew there.

For parks, you can use the list on this site for what the latest builds are. No map there, but if you put the town + skatepark in maps you’ll likely find it. Or show up and ask some locals.
https://www.montanaskatepark.org/projects/

This is the main diy in Missoula. https://www.instagram.com/the_strip_diy/
Roughly here. https://maps.app.goo.gl/TQbtCsENqP9Yk414A?g_st=ipc

There really aren’t ditches or pools. Jeff ament from Pearl Jam lives there and has 2 custom bowls, but probably not an easy invite to get. I’ve heard there’s an interesting ditch in Wallace, ID but I’ve never gone looking. And they have a diy under the freeway. Interesting little town if you’re on I-90.

Street skating in Missoula is ok. Some fun spots around downtown. The courthouse is surrounded by a ledge and has plastic benches bolted on in some spots. Caras park got rebuilt and has some ledges. Campus has some stuff. Ask the shop. They had a spot map going.

Nightlife I’ve always liked Al’s & Vic’s, and Charlie B’s. Charlie’s has a little food spot in the back. Stop by the record store called Ear Candy to see if there are any shows.

Food- taco del sol, 5 on black, biga pizza, michi ramen, zoo Thai. Tons of new stuff there every time I go too.
Clyde coffee, Le Petit, and veera doughnuts for the morning time.

Get some local brews if you like beer. Bong water pale ale from kettle house is a must try. I love big sky brewing’s beers.

Other stuff- hike to the M, float the river. There’s a service that will shuttle you for a float. Plenty of other outdoors fun. If you got to Polson you gotta stop at the Miracle of America museum. It’s super weird and awesome.

The section of ledges that isn't knobbed at the courthouse in Missoula is sick. I spent an hour at that intersection after a day of driving. Bring wax. Or don't. You could still skate the spot without it. You'll see.

Right on!! Thanks for the tips, definitely gonna check out the shop and diy. Any tips on nearby camping spots? hoping to just find a cool spot in the national forest rather than make a reservation at an established campground

Been a long time since I’ve camped close to Missoula. So can’t offer suggestions. The locals might. But I think you’ll have to go pretty far from town.  I’m sure there’s some national forest roads for dispersed camping. But no campfires this time of year.

For parks, you can use the list on this site for what the latest builds are. No map there, but if you put the town + skatepark in maps you’ll likely find it. Or show up and ask some locals.

Right on!! Thanks for the tips, definitely gonna check out the shop and diy. Any tips on nearby camping spots? hoping to just find a cool spot in the national forest rather than make a reservation at an established campground

Download The Dyrt app. Shows all the camping.

Just north of The Jack Saloon (north of Lolo) there is some good dispersed camping along Graves Creek Road / Petty Creek Road (and side roads) in Lolo National Forest. That's about 45 minutes from town but the closest I've been able to find to Missoula that's free, private, feels safe, and I know is 100% legal. Lots of black bear though. You can access from Lolo or Alberton and the entire drive between the two is quite pretty as well.

Thanks everyone for the tips! Had a short but epic trip, 3 nights of camping and hitting parks from Big Sky to Whitefish and back. Even managed to get a sesh at Jeff’s private bowls. Working on a little edit from the trip, I’ll post it here once it’s done. Cheers pals!
