Have you ever had a really really good Peruvian tamale from the tamale lady with some bread and pickled onions? I had that when I was a little kid in Peru and it’s hard to repeat that experience again.

Yeah, I'm white as the proverbial driven snow, but this pretty much handles the situation. Just the sheer amount of variables in the burrito flavor profile are hard to counter.

There might be a "purity" or "simplicity" argument to be had here re: tamales (which can be really good in my experience, by the way, as a lifelong Texas resident), which seems to be what Idk is getting at (haven't had Peruvian style), but I haven't had a tamale really knock my socks off in the way some burritos have.

dusty, maybe you can change our minds. I don't know that the tamale of our collective consciousness is going to do it.

What you want is the least amount of container to maximum filling ratio. A taco or burrito wins there every time. Unless you just really like masa…

Hard shell tacos are a big no-no amigo, but you're in Australia so I guess you get a pass

I love them both, so I will have the Colombian tamal with hot chocolate for breakfast and I will have the Mexican beef burrito for lunch!

I wish I had access to all this glorious food, but alas, we don’t have much here in Quebec City.

That being said, this thread made me so fucking hungry.

I've been to places that deep fry them fresh and they're solid, but the grocery store taco night kit is no good.

Someone already said it, too much masa for tamales to compete with burritos.

Now all I can think about is some sort of weird poutine burrito.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Tamales are good, but too filling. Give me a good sizzling plate of fajitas any day.

Get hungry on it!

Burritos are the way the truth and the life. And @mattyc  if you ever do make it out to the state and California specifically, try our Mexican food. It's the best in the country

Birria tacos dipped in consomme. There's also a food truck in my town that does tamales this way but I've yet to track them down and try it.
