2021 SLOTY (Slam of the Year)
« on: December 11, 2021, 12:03:06 PM »
Thoughts?

Kanaan Dern in Zero's Painkiller seems like it checks the "is this shit big?" and "does it hurt for days afterwards?" boxes:

Reggie Kelly's contortion distortion was embedded in my brain, bodies ain't made to buck back that way.

Chima Ferguson's kick out of doom in his Vans Nice To See You Raw Files.

Ronnie Sandoval rolling off a roof, into a steep as bank, to a head smasher makes my back ache:

Additions from comments:

Lizzie Armanto - Wile E Coyote  - (happened in 2020, footy released 2021)

Auguste Bouznad - Knee gnar - Mind Goblin

Mike Arnold - Neck check - Mind Goblin

Kader - Slide slide slippity-slide - Mind Goblin

Figgy - Emerica "This"

Pedro Delfino - Deathwish "UNCROSSED"

If you have any contenders, post em up because my memory can only remember the last few months of footage.

Shouts to the 2012 SLOTY thread and that one of a kind Chris Gentry soundtrack.

Reggie Kelly for sure.

it must be crazy when chico sells you something and the tables switch from "give me my money chico" to "giving my money to chico"

Damn, I'll have to give that Zero video a watch later.

Jack O’Grady had a pretty nasty one in his pro part where he tries to ollie a gap to 50-50.
That dude that tweaked his knee in the latest supreme video made me relive the pain of fucking up my own, probably one of the nastier knee injuries I've seen.

I'd link the respective parts but mobile has proved hit and miss for me when it comes to that.

Reggie Kelly's just looks so unnatural for the body. Hope it wasn't too serious for him. That's my pick. Makes me uncomfortable more than any other I've seen this year

The guy who blew his knee out in Mind Goblin is still feeling it.

Added. what's this dude's name? His knee straight sling shotted him backwards. Ouch. Ligaments ain't stoked on that.

While searching through Mind Goblin, the dude who neck checked the curved ledge and Kader's boardslide slam stood out.

Gotta be Lizzie Armanto

Oh yea, that was worst case scenario for real. Added based on footy release date of this year.

Figgy’s in the opening of “This” probably looks so much more gnarly without the slow-mo. Dude nailed his face and got right back up.

Sky Brown? That footy out in 2020 (source). Conflicted on adding. It looked like a bad one. Filmer missed the actual slam (made the better call of what appears to be trying to save Sky).

Damn. Reggie Kelly's body crumpled like in the Thrasher Video game.

Also, Lizzie for me as well. I know it was last year, but damn, she hit a wall at full speed.

I gotta go with Lizzie never has a slam shocked me more than her hitting a wall at like 15mph and then fell 10 feet. The cry she makes afterwards too is legit haunting

I hate watching slams. I’ve noticed that a lot of people who don’t skate love watching slams. They get some kind of sadistic pleasure out of it 🧜🏿

Depends on the type of slam for me, knocks to the head and ligament injuries make me physically cringe. Some slams are just enjoyable to watch though, especially when it's Clive Dixon -

I love Reggie Kelly's skating, making that horrendous contortion all the more awful to watch.

A little light could have been added to that situation. For instance, an Aarto pun..

watching him grab it in pain gives me that weird feeling in my stomach.
reggie's is absolutely brutal, but we just watch the slam and have to wonder how fucked he got, but in the mind goblin guy one we see his reaction which makes me feel worse overall.
