Im realizing the reason I like my half cabs is because of how thick the sole is, not the rest of the shoe.

Can someone point me in the direction of other “thick” sole shoes similar to half cabs? Most other threads talking about this seem to focus on the thickness and feel of the shoe material, not the sole

Hey guys.

I'm studying Fashion and Textile Design in University of Lapland, Finland. I'm doing research for my thesis in skate shoe design. The grand scheme of it all is to gather as much data for my Master's thesis about exploring new perspectives on different foot shapes than the current medium.

Already did one survey here that gathered a lot of replies. So if any of you guys can donate your time to this, I'd appreciate it tremendously.

The survey is about the 3 key features of skate shoes - function, ergonomics and aesthetics.

It's super down-to-the-core and basic but it is just so I can incorporate this data into my masters' base research material.
It's on Microsoft Forms and it's anonymous and shouldn't take too long to answer!

Thanks guys.

I beg you please make a shoe company that makes real skate shoes with an anatomical toe box

Are they the Classic or the Skate versions?

All other Vans in which ever versions have the same sole, so I am guessing you mean the Skate range, as they have a little thicker waffle sole than the regular or Classic versions of the shoe.

Skate have the checkered tag too, usually come in a white box, etc.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Yeah, pop crush, checkered flag, says skateboarding on it, etc.

Wait, so you're saying it's the same sole as the vans slip on pros? Really?

Damn, maybe it is the thickness of the rest of the shoe then...or maybe I was skating my beat up slip ons so long that a new sole felt miles thicker...

If that's the case, thanks. I guess I can just get any thick shoe then and be fine it sounds like (def prefer thick over thin slip ons or canvas)

Just note, "PRO" was the older version, which has been replaced by the upgraded "SKATE" versions of all shoes / all styles.

As Frank/Fred says, Rowans were the first to try the new technology, but now they all have the same soles.  I first got the Rowan shoe, thought it was a good upgrade, then got the Skate Old Skool, Skate Sk8 Low, Skate Sk8 Hi, Skate Half Cab and a couple of others, just to see what they were like.  Yes they are decent shoes, all the same soles on them.

Also note, the new Skate Slip Ons are said to be a different shape and feel of upper than the old Pro versions and a lot of people are not liking the new Skate Slip Ons at all, so try them on before getting any, if you do want that shoe.

I have Pro Slip Ons which are good, but I haven't even bothered to look at the Skate Slip Ons, mainly due to the reviews, but you might find they do work for you.

Truck madness got me a little bit, I'm curious about the Koston Ventures, anybody tried them?
I had ventures only 2 times in my life. First time was during COVID with some Worrest V-Lights 5.8 if I remember correctly and as far I remember my skating was good on them but last year or so I had some raw V-Lights 5.6 and they wouldn't turn at all...
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Anyone have any expereince ordering a tshirt, hoodie from Uganda skate society? If you don't know its a grassroots community effort to bring skating to Uganda, build places for locals to skate, etc. They have a cool instagram page, they be shredding

https://shop.ugandaskateboardsociety.org/

Just curious what people's experience was if they have ordered. Is it shipped from Uganda? is someone from the states or elsewhere helping them fulfill orders? Much appreciated

I got the Beatrice Zahbas and they feel similar to half cabs to me right out the gate. Went up half a size too and they feel better than the half cabs did (half cabs felt too tight and were pressing down on the tops of my feet...)

looks like one of those situations where each item is just printed and shipped from a warehouse closest to you. It's like how you get an Instagram ad for a highly specific tshirt. It doesn't actually exist until you buy it.

Were you hibernatin at the time? The rollout for Beatrice’s was hard ta miss. Callin it her “pro shoe.” Zion’s rollout was not as prominent, but he’s not modeling outside far as I know. If you go back through some old threads, there are some good jokes about the “bacon strips” on the side of his colorway.

I wanna get some wheels that don't stick on noseslide/tailslides so much. Can't decide between Conicals or radials or radial fulls. I'm currently riding conical fulls 55mm 99ds right now

I would go smaller classics then. Always felt like wider bigger wheel stops you easier if you get in slightly off

Or if you want to stick with wider wheels, go with 101 formula
If you see offensive comments, just let it go into one eye and let it out of the other eye, no tears and not sadness or anger.

Bones Mediums would be your best bet I think.
