Basically, she lacks skills, and is pro for some reason? And has all these sponsorships and deals while there is so many other woman or woman of color for that matter that are actually skilled at skating. There are people on here who are hyped for her because she's black. That's just the synapsis of the thread from all that I've read. If I'm missing anything, feel free to add?

At the end of the day, aren’t the questions here the same ones being asked about Gino in the Asics threads?   Why is this underperforming person given all the opportunities and marketing dollars?

The answer for some in the Gino thread: legacy of style makes him forever relevant.   Seemingly the answer to the Beatrice ?: it’s important to highlight and represent a black female skater.

you really learned that one sentence and think its accurate whenever you use it right?
this discussion is leading to something and might who knows regulate something.
so instead of just posting your catchphrase like a pokemon just try to add anything of worth

If people like it, it’ll stay.

If they don’t, it won’t last.

No one buys things they don’t like.

On a side note…

I’ve noticed that this place seems to love being hyper critical of black skaters and always tries to make them the butt of a joke.

For as progressive as people here like to signal themselves as being, none of this seems to be said in jest.

I blame hookup culture

Fair to criticize, but the target should be Dill and Other sponsors.    They have set her up for a lot of criticism, based on her skill set.   I tend to think things are not as contrived or calculated as some.   I think they may have sponsored her, thinking she had a different arc then  she did, and felt they could not cut her.    One thing that has happened in just the last few years is the level of skill of women/ girl skating has really taken off.

That shit was rocket.

Also, I haven’t seen the term “skate IQ” on here since the big cat was spamming around stinking up the place.

Y'all haters don't even realize that there was an invasive spotted lantern fly on the ground right there and she just thought she'd maximize her chances of a successful smooshing if she kept the back wheels on the ground. I applaud that kind of quick thinking.

To be fair, Samarria rode for Enjoi. Nobody cared about Enjoi.

Again, if I was in an under represented group of skaters, I would keep tabs on what other under represented skaters are doing / up to. Enjoi, even in 2017, was doing more than Meow was doing in 2017 (bigger distribution, social media reach, more big media reach with Vice/KOTR). It’s not like Samarria was some underground Animal Chin ripper type ripper that 2 people knew of. Arin was going viral at this point as well, sans (I think) board sponsor.

My thesis is that Beatrice does not care about the ritual of creating video parts or even feeding off of the vibe that others create through their video parts. How many would-be pros film parts before ever entering the industry because it’s what they want to do? How many skaters go out and film after working 40 hours a week on some Dawn of the Dead ‘they’re just drawn to it’ subconscious drive, even if they know this work won’t ever even get them on a shop sponsor?

Not only could she not be bothered to film her own video parts, she apparently couldn’t be bothered to know about Samarria (or worse, is aware of her but for whatever reason feels she’s more valid than Samarria?)

This is the reason people dislike Beatrice, outside of the fact that she fucking sucks on a skateboard. She seemingly does not have respect for it.

The answer for some in the Gino thread: legacy of style makes him forever relevant.   Seemingly the answer to the Beatrice ?: it’s important to highlight and represent a black female skater.

The answer for some in the Gino thread: legacy of style makes him forever relevant.   Seemingly the answer to the Beatrice ?: it’s important to highlight and represent a black female skater.

People just aren’t falling for this kind of stuff anymore. Is it more progressive to pretend someone is better at skateboarding than they actually are? There are other non white female skaters that aren’t playing that angle and aren’t milking it, hence the criticism. There’s no novelty to it, the skating is what counts, not your ethnicity or sex.

You’re right.

I just see all the jokes about KB, RN, Stevie, etc.

And all the criticism of Tyshawn and King, and it’s kind of a trend.

Like no one even talks about Hopps and how dope it is.

I truly don't think it's a race thing here, I think it's the massive egos which ppl have said over and over and over. I think it's disingenuous to claim it's racism that drives it. Slap is a lot more progressive than it used to be, and ppl also are big fans of plenty of other skaters of color who are mentioned throughout every thread. We also make fun of white guys / women with similar my shit doesn't stink attitudes and kook behavior.

King is a great example, zero direction with the brand, low effort zero creativity graphics, the expectation ppl will just buy your shit because of who you are despite your style being ass. It's just a lack of respect for the entire process. King won't last.

Why is nak's ego so huge is the real question. Riding tyshawn's coattails but some how deluded into believing he's also the shit. I'd say it's a generational thing but plenty of skaters around the same age don't act like that.

People love Una Farrar and she’s not exactly pushing the envelope either.  But the reason people probably like her more than BD is not because she’s white, but because she seems nice and humble, not venomously egotistical.

Anyway, I’m not gonna judge anyone until the footy drops Thursday.  If they’re both in it, I presume they’ll both have stepped their games up from the past footage they’re judged for.  With that said, how I and others will perceive them afterwards, will be based on the amount of effort they seemingly put in, and how they carry themselves regarding the response said footage gets.

@PatrickSkateman you’re cool and I’m not picking a fight here, but you really can’t see why people here might poke at KB (who’s a pile but everyone loves to watch skate).. and Tyshawn, who’s a landlord bulldog breeder?  Mikey Taylor and Bam get more shit than they do, and those dudes haven’t even been relevant skaters in years.

Una also has a very sick style. I think women should focus more on skating proper rn and being steezy even if their bag of tricks isn't super deep or they aren't going huge, but that'll become more frequent soon. It's not dissimilar from male skating in the 80s which was a lot of style and vibe shit.

Una also participates with other legitimate pros at plenty of skate events and reps women well. She puts out lots of insta footy and seems like a genuine skate rat. Beatrice wouldn't even show up to any type of core event because she'd get washed immediately. Una has Elissa vibes and that helps.

Beatrice can't even fucking heel flip properly or do a flip trick at the opening of a line. I'd be embarrassed if I'd put out that line in a vans ad. It's like she doesn't try at all, or shocker doesn't have the skill set.

except Alex Olson I have never seen a white pro skater on a high fashion runway.
I think black skaters have through black american culture more connection to things thats used to be not cool for skateboarders for a long time. capitalism and everything that comes along with it gets glamorized in modern hip hop.
its a celebration of being able to look rich and wealthy.

white people do that also all the time but in skateboarding those guys do not find a home at a company.

skateboarding used to be a thing of dirty nerdy anti establishment kids.
i dont know if I should be happy that Carlis and Dashawn were walking for the Louis Vuitton runway show.
I like that they are getting money and are being treated nicely outside of skateboarding.
but its not that white skaters get these opportunities at all.
I think some fashion house no I think most fashion houses use black skateboarders as streetwear marketing entry even though I dont think black Americans are the main shoppers of the clothing.
they are being used.
if you get a big ego from that you dont get it. money doesnt make you. it should take care of your family and make you a good living but you are not better or worse than anyone.
social climbing in LA seems crazy these days.

all jokes aside I think king would be the shit with a better art direction. thats the only critic I have. we also made numbers fail so what.

You make some good points.

Mikey Taylor definitely gets it the most. Shame too, his sponsors wasted some really good songs on his bland skating.
