The latest round of the athlete debate in the Tyshawn cover thread (someone compared him to long jumper Mike Powell) got me thinking what other sports pros might do if not skating. Then I saw footage of Jake Hayes hovering a kickflip over a handrail and suddenly pictured him in tiny shorts doing the high jump.

What other sports can you see pros do?

futbol always came pretty easy to me after years of skating, especially when it came down to control and putting the ball where I wanted it to be. my buddy from Peru remarked on it the first time we played together. ankle dexterity is a real thing.

I've seen a ton of other sk8rs intuitively control balls, too.........

the 1 thing i would say probably NOT is football, but one of the best people i ever skated with played in the Canadian Footbal League which is pretty sick. he had massive pop and switch flips. crooked grind anything.

Cycling makes sense, especially for older skaters. One of my knees has felt off lately, so I've been cycling more than skating, and there's definitely some overlap. I live in a hilly area so I tend to just haul ass and see where things take me. Finding nice little parks or a pretty view on a bike is like finding a good skate spot.

Climbing is something I do pretty consistently with the other skaters I work with and I’ve seen quite the assortment of skaters at the climbing gym so I wonder if it’s a sport others would do if it wasn’t so god damn expensive
