Ricky Oyola appreciation!
« on: May 06, 2007, 09:44:40 AM »
This thread may be a bit cliche, considering we are on the Slap boards, but I don't care. Ricky Oyola is in my top three skaters. I don't have time to write out a long description, but when I think of Ricky, I think of a few things:
1) Style - He's got a great, unique style. He has lots of power, but some finesse thrown in there.
2) Choice of spots - This is definitely the first thing that caught my eye about him. Most of the spots he skates are spots that you would find while skating down a city street; not many big name spots.  Half the stuff he skates would be considered unskateable by almost everyone else.
3) Lack of coverage - It's a blessing in disguise. Ricky's lack of coverage makes you appreciate the coverage he does have so much more.
4) Music - Ricky always skates to good and fitting music.
There is so much more that could be said, but those are the first things to come to mind for me. In short, Ricky is one of the greatest! If anyone could post some pictures, I'd be grateful. I'll post some later, but in the meantime, here's some video parts:

One of my favorites. Put Philly on the map.

He did help a lot in that regard, and that shouldn't be forgotten. However, the torch is now in Stevie's hands.
I like Ricky but I'm not gonna over exagerate a mere ollie. There are some og's that when I see I'm in awe still
to this day, and Ricky has never been one of those guys.

Well ask Gorecki who's inspired him? Stevie owns that shit. His
skating is undeniable. Well at least we agree on one thing, it sure
aint Ricky's.

Let me make this clear, I'm in no way trying to say I don't think Ricky
is good or anything. I just think he's decent and it's tight to see him
still cruising around. I'm just saying that I'm not gonna be on the edge
of my seat from watching him skate.

In the slap world Sherm sucks and RIcky is king. Hillarious.

Ricky's a Philadelphia legend, no doubt. Ask Stevie who inspired him. Not to say Stevie doesn't rip but he  can't be holding down shit in Philly. He moved to L.A.

Yea, your posts are VERY much appreciated...Please see below.

I cant believe this is real. Let me clear something up for you guys. If someone wants to come skate a spot in your town, and you dont tell them where it is, you are an asshole and should be rediculed, period. Jamie Thomas shouldnt have even apologized to your idiot asses. Grow up.

his style doesnt really do it for me all the time, but hes cool.  i liked when he got punched in the face by jovontae and i liked that run he did at the end of underachievers with the shifty ollie into the bank.

Ricky is such an inspiration. He's been like that for a long time for me. He's got style and power and he's definitely going forward all the time. I like that.

I wish him all the good with Traffic!!!
