i had an old guy (between 50 and 60) at the shop who was skating vert with a 7.5. It seems he enjoyed that configuration for a few years. It didn't make sense to me though (but i'm not a transition skater)
I recommended to try a larger board between 8.5 and 9. He picked an 8.75 and never looked back.
