If you’re already wearing skate brands/workwear, putting it together with something high end is the move. Style is a combination of low and high in major cities. Here’s a list of easily accessible designers you can find online or in vintage consignment/nicer thrift shops:

Comme des Garcons Homme Plus
Yohji Yamamoto
Helmut Lang

These are legacy brands who have been doing it for decades so you can easily find stuff for reasonable prices second hand. Buy a few new things and mix them in. Also, cool nonskate footwear never misses.

If you're white please don't be the one dude in the office that wears a Wu Tang Clan or Tribe shirt so everyone knows he smoked weed at Coachella once.

Way more than once....

Also unless you own a shitty motorcycle don't do the white dude vintage biker thing especially in NYC.

I've been rewatching the Sopranos and honestly if you just copy Furio or Chris from seasons 3 and 4 you'd be pretty well off.

I agree with what has already been said on here.

Here is my ranking:

#1. Thrift stores and estate sales (and it is not even close)

- You have embarked on an adventure! You NEVER know what you are going to find. *note* ALWAYS check the pockets. You might find some cold hard cash, or worst case scenario, napkins.
- Even if you do not find anything, it is still entertainment to a certain degree which is free for that matter. A great first date idea to weed out the knuckleheads and riff-raff.
- Checking out different thrift stores/estate sales in different communities which vary by socioeconomic status can yield some really cool stuff, sometimes brand new clothing.

#2. Old Navy

- Consistent
- Inexpensive
- Available in many places across the US

#3. Online shopping

- Searching is so much easier than in person
- Downside is you can't really try stuff on
- Dealing with package theft also sucks, depending on where you live it may be more of an issue than in other places

estate sales are the fuckin shit mate, found so much good stuff there, and the people are usually so nice and tell all sorts of stories associated with their clothes

thanks for all the answers, lots to look into. By 'nice' and 'cool' I just mean what looks clean and respectable but not dorky. I know what is cool and comfortable to me--work pants and comfort colors t shirts lol. I just needed alternatives for work that are better than buying slim fit chinos and oxfords.

If you already like Carhartt I would look at Carhartt WIP stuff for the office.

https://www.endclothing.com/us Typically has a bunch of their stuff on sale.

I also back Goodfellow from Target, their pants are really nice for the price.

I’d like to add that this change gets me laid at much higher frequency so anyone reading who likes sex or wants to have more should do this

Recommending Yohji on SLAP is just funny to me.

Makes total sense... The 2 options are:

"Target has their own brand called 'Goodfellows' I like their chinos"

OR

"This Japanese brand, Yohji Yamamoto, makes really comfortable pants, they're called 'hakamas' and they sell out every season, so you should preorder with your favorite Isetan salesperson, or maybe you can find a pre-owned pair on at the local thrift shop. They'll definitely get you laid more easily"

Good grief.

Nowadays I mostly buy Levi's 550 or 505 for cheap (40 canadian $, so like 30US$) and plain white/black tees and longsleeve tees (my gf loves the plain tees for some reason) and I buy a couple pieces from skateshops when I find something I like.

That being said, like others have said, most of my wardrobe is Dime, Polar and other skate brands I've bought over the years. They stay in good shape bc I wash them with cold water and never put them in the dryer.

Shoes from my local skateshop, mostly NB and Last Resorts, but I do have some pairs of vans I got for cheap and still have an old pair of dunks (NBA nuggets *Edit: Cavs* highs) from back when I bought them at 40% off, before all the hype.

Bunch of hats, both from my local shop and sports team hats.

I have too much clothes, shoes and hats tbh. Like waaaay too much.

If you have a shop around that supports the local skate scene, I personally try to support them as much as possible. Otherwise, cheap shit that fits.

Love the punch up you did where you generously misquoted me on a thread about cool and nice clothes to sound both superior and humble and that my humor at the end was lost on you

You can either spend $10 on a Gildan crewneck from Amazon or spend $500 on a designer crewneck from Nordstrom. There is no middle ground.

look at pictures of jonah hill, regardless of your opinions about the dude he dresses well, and he used to be round as a barrel until recently

As someone who is a model and works in the fashion industry one thing that has not been mentioned is accessories. You can wear a pair of derbys, 501s and a white dress shirt and have nice jewellery to elevate your look.

Second thing is know your size and body type this will help you be comfortable and put together.

Brands, well it depends, look for like brioni or Armani suits (not Armani exchange) if you have to be proper fancy. I’d stay a way from skate brands in general. People say stuff like butter goods or dime have good materials but they are only slightly better than say Uniqlo or on par with their premium labels.

Drifting is the way to go for sure if want nice stuff with decent prices.

Lastly at least in my field of work you can pretty much wear what ever you want nowadays so I would not sweat on it too much.

Well it depends of course, personally I like silver because it suits my skin tone. So like some rings. A pinky ring is a nice touch. Then a necklace you don’t even need a pedant if you want to keep it low-key. If you like your workwear I’d recommend a bandana on your neck it’s basic and versatile. Buy a silk one if your are a bit more flamboyant. For me the next big thing is going to be ankle bracelets but that is not for everyone and I’d say it will take 3-5 years till it’s on the trendwatch.

Just be careful so you don’t end up looking like bam with 7 scarfs and muddy fingers.
