Nah this is different, this is THE shoe
if we are talking about other skaters wearing them other than the pro in question, Marc and Ed’s first models were more influential/ universally loved

Unless the shoe's performance works for someone, I do not get the appeal for throwback nostalgia shoes. If anything it makes me depressed looking at remnants of the past. Gotta be something psychological about looking downwards at something from a bygone era.

Not to be a broken record about them in here, but I genuinely enjoy skating the OG-1, Accel OG, etc. from yesteryear. Performance-wise, they all scratch that itch in shoes I've been looking for in the last ~20 years of skating. They're not narrow, dainty vulcs/cups that we've continuously had for the last 15 years, so that's why I pick them. They feel great on my foot and skate excellent. It's a bonus to look down and be hyped skating something I didn't get to when I was a kid. HOW they fit & skate is why I still largely choose these shoes over comparable NB#/Nike for example.

I completely get why it could bum/depress someone else out wearing/skating something from a bygone era, though. I've tried modern shoes from bigger brand and either the quality is meh or they didn't fit/mesh with how I skate most of the time. The 808, 1010, Japan Pro, 480, etc. are all modern/retro updates that are excellent examples of what Soletech brands *could* be doing with blending nostalgia & something new.

You're talking about other pros on the team. I think GISM was talking about the general public. I have no barometer which one was actually more popular tho.

I'm talking about both (regular skaters and other pros), but I would have no hesitation betting that the MJ1 and Ed1 outsold EE's shoe!

I ask because the superstar from Adidas is a great shoe to skate in (and many would argue the same for Nike dunks) but is 100% a "remnant of the past"

I've had a pair of Grasshoppers! Didn't skate them though. The pair I had was 0.5 small since I ordered online and couldn't try them in person to know what my IPath sizing would be.

Crickets & Grasshoppers are on my horizon to skate! I did enjoy the overall feel of my Grasshoppers before I sold them, minus their stock shitty insole (what brand doesn't have shitty insoles nowadays) of course

With each season of models,  the quality seems to be getting better and better! From colorways to visible build quality!

I don't think you can compare Superstars, something that never stopped being made as far as I know, to some random soletech re-issues that were very much part of their era due to the limited time they existed for.

but the reason they stopped existing is mostly because they were pro models for people who no longer ride for soletech anymore.

Awesome, yeah, they are solid skate shoes and they seem to be exactly what you’re looking for.

I didn’t even know I missed this kind of shoe until I started skated grasshoppers, and legit have not skated this well in a very long time. Everything just works really well. My theory is that there’s the wide sidewall like a Vans might have so there’s a lot to grip the board… but then also has the cup sole rigidity.

Also the mid top might help a lot with being aware of what my foot is doing since it’s touching the ankle.

(I bought the OG-1 back on SSD with the red and white and liked the big and wide fit, but was turned off because there was no midsole at all (to the opposite of the advertising.  Maybe they actually have a midsole now)

The accells (especially the OG OG Original “new” “old” whatever is what they just released) looks like they would skate well

Yeah, the superstar argument was reallu dumb
brands dig into their archives all the time and bring back shoes, this is not a rare thing, nor is it limited only to non-corporate skate shoe companies.
If you don’t like superstars as an example (again, you’d have to prove that adidas has always offered that shoe though) just pick from a number of other shoes they’ve resurrected over the years like continental 80 etc.

anyone hear anything on this shoe? its a Vulc, i feel like it looks a lot like the Leo model that was leaked.

If he didn't get a model after they completely botched the production of the skater that's a huge bummer. Feel like they should do right by him to produce a well made shoe that can sell better.

Saw the black, green and red colourways of the Moca last week at a trade show. They’re really good, the build is solid and they’ve got G6 insoles which is a nice touch.

I did ask about Leo’s new shoe, it’s in the works. Emerica actually posted a photo of it on their insta story yesterday.

I've had a pair since around the holidays and broke them in plenty before skating them. after a few sessions now, i'd definitely recommend them. the sole is actually grippier than the former G6 cupsoles. when scooching my foot around it takes a little more effort cause they really stick to the grip good. the foam midsole is only in the heel area, and you can kinda feel a more...muted...boardfeel in the back compared to the front. but it's still good cupsole protection throughout the entire shoe. I like a shoe that you can slip on and off really easy while they're still tied and these do just that. the tongue straps have some give while not being too flimsy. I definitely recommend them, but not paying full price. they're not flimsy or bad quality, I just don't feel like they're quite in that primo level of shoe, like a 1010 tiago for example.

I just received mine (white/gum vegan colorway). There’s still snow on the ground so I’m probably not skating them anytime soon but they look and feel great, and I’m looking forward to skating in them as soon as I can

Those Mocas feel like a modern iteration of Emerica's take on a Blazer low. Similar to the Indicator and Omen Lo they had previously. Though, these look way better on foot from either of those two from what I've seen

well I was wrong! Temps hit mid-50s here over the weekend so I was able to get out for a rare mid-winter sesh. One thing that I noticed as I laced them up was that the G6 insole is now thinner/flimsier than previous iterations that I've had. But also it seems like the lasting board on the sole is bit thicker than prior emerica vulcs that I've had, so the combo of slightly thinner insole but thicker lasting board works out to be  sturdier yet still comfortable vulc, without losing much board feel. I enjoyed my afternoon skating in them.
