Where did all the zip-up hoodies go?
« on: June 12, 2023, 06:43:08 PM »
Growing up skating in the early-to-mid 2000s, it seemed like zip-up hoodies were the norm, pullover hoodies the exception. Nowadays it's the opposite, I can't find zip-ups made by any brands I like anymore. What gives? I much prefer a zip, easier to cool down when you get hot etc. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Haha, go to any skatepark in the Bay Area and you will find kids wearing studded belts to hold their super baggy pants up. Studded belts went out before skinny jeans came in. Now they are fully back.

I wear them around the house a bunch….pull overs I get claustrophobic.  The zip neck is kinda the way to go for me lately, keeps your neck warm…

These contrast colored zip ups ruined all zip up hoodies forever and I'm thankful for it at this point. If you need a zipper or buttons in front get a fuckin proper jacket then, these belong in zumiez

I have a lot of them and everytime I wear one outside I feel like I'm the only person in the world with a zip hoodie, it feels really wrong. Like I'm a time traveler or just extremely out of touch. Please bring them back

They were only good as a grom, because people would just assume that your hoodie was bunching up, even though you had a boner.

I find it strange that people a) are so emotional about hating zip up hoodies and b) think that a zip up hoodie was a fad. Much like regular hoodies, zip ups have been around since the 1930s. It's just a pretty regular piece of casual/active clothing.

Bingo.

I still wear a Workshop zip up I've had since 2010 that has a stash pocket - it's my spot for my lighter and earplugs for most shows I go to. Brands like Quasi, Bronze, Krooked, Toy Machine, etc need to get back into the zip game. Sick of only Thrasher and Spitfire as options for zips  :-[

I've been walking around with a zip-up oblivious to trends this whole time. I guess that's why you can buy them at Costco. Damn I'm old and uncool, oh well, zippers are great. I'm sure they'll be back soon enough, broken clocks and all.

Baggy jeans, zip up hoodie, beanie over the eyes, studded belt and chunky shoes is the cool guy outfit where i'm at right now

And skating in the most apathetic way possible.

I actually almost started a thread like this for the exact reasons op stated. I had a traffic one from theories a long time ago that is still going strong super thick. I recently picked up a frog one on sale that doesn’t have some garish design plastered all over it - pretty stoked on that.

But recently more brands have dropped zip ups but they are all over 100$ jeez that’s a lot.

My most missed clothes item is a zip up hoodie from urban outfitters that was thin and had a perfect modern fit.

Anyway I’m stuck in 2005-2008 so I love zip up hoodies

Bronze has a zip up hoodie out right now, so does Polar

I picked up a Dime one earlier this year and it is my favorite hoodie . The zip up is so clutch in Colorado weather where the weather can change 20 degrees in 5 minutes and happens daily

Yeah I lost my grey zip up not too long ago and it went with everything :(. It was also perfect for dog walking and chilly skate sessions.

Love having the ability to be snuggled up in it, and then once I've warmed up enough to zip it down to still have the arms warm but torso can cool off.

Underrated clothing item fosho, agree it should be brought back

People ripping on zip up hoodies but willing to wear zip up workwear.

The problem is cheap zip ups fucking blow. When they shrink the zipper becomes lumpy and cheap ones are poorly finished on the inside. Lots of activewear companies have solved these problems and your cheap Uniqlo zip up is quite comfortable and practical.

The real reason they probably vanished is they cost more as blanks an they are more annoying to print on.

i personally couldnt stand them, a lot of time when you washed em and they shrank a tiny bit, the fabric shrinks but the metal obviously doesnt, so you got this belly bulge swell shape going on at the bottom.

I find it stranger still that adult skateboarders are so eager to purchase articles of clothing proclaiming their favorite brand of children's toy.
