Independent 159’s
« on: August 03, 2023, 11:20:11 AM »
There’s a lot of truck sizes and they’re all great for their own purposes

I think Indy 159s are the best truck ever if you want to skate all terrain and ride anything from an 8.5 pop to a 9.5 shape

Who else only rides 159s

My first set of 159s were the first trucks I grinded to axle.

I've rebuilt them 3-4 times cause the hanger and baseplate just won't die.

It's too bad they're a bit shakey to have as my daily driver, cause no other trucks I've rode since then live up to those Indy bois
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

I agree. 8.75" is the magical axle width.

But its Ace 60s and Thunder 151s for me.

I’m a recent convert to the 159 but I’m so glad I beefed up my truck width

My main ride and 8.25 with 144s...

However, I also have a DLX 8.75 with 159s, and yeah, that things is a bit tank-ish, but it just feels so sweet.

Recently put some 159 standards on my Ace classic baseplates so I didn't have to go buy wider trucks and it works perfectly. I'm going to grind these all the way down. Love the extra hanger space without it being too wide. Also, they fit great on an 8.25 I just had to put on some 54mm radials cause all my other wheels stuck out too much.

i skated 159s a fair amount, even on 8.25.
they are my favorite indy. something about the height to width ratio.

Stuck a pair on my newly setup quasi 9.0 and for some reason the front of the board felt really heavy, hoping it’s got more to do with the deck than the trucks …

but i recently bought some 60mm dragons and put them on a spare setup i have that is a 9 with 159 hollow forged i've had for quite a while. since having those wheels, i've been skating that board a lot more and I will say that I do love how the trucks feel. as somebody else said, "tankish" for sure, but pretty sweet!

This. I am riding a 9 inch board with 63MM Spitfires and 159 Indys. I am not into super tech stuff, so I really enjoy all the sturdiness and room that comes with the bigger setup. The 159s feel solid.

.

I found a use for my Radial Full 54 mm wheels, as they were just a bit wide on the 149s for my liking, but everything works just nicely on 159s on a white eagle with that whole setup.

Almost works too well and I could get really comfortable riding that, more so than 8.38 or 8.5 boards.

for me, it’s something about the turn on the 159s, a little slower/more stable, and i love the pop.

I had my 159s on an 8.75 popsicle, but I finally snapped it, and put them on an 8.5.  As others have stated, this may be the perfect setup.

I thought Grant was on 149s, but Peter Hewitt on ti 159s on the 8.38 size boards always tripped me out.

Setting up that exact combination with some 56 mm Classics just looks so weird, even with no washers, but that is what he rides and almost every time he posts, someone asks if the trucks are too wide and he replies Nope or Can't see the wheels or something similar, but I can see that being a very stable big bowl and vert type setup.

This was his most recent board setup post, going to the shorter 8.4 but still with ti 159s and 57 mm Radials.

Edit:

His older post with those questions, on the setup I copied.

hewitt looks fantastic on board. just a cool style.

i’m skating an 8.38, with 6.1s, and the wider trucks have some advantages: mostly handle speed better, and have a wider base so ollie’s feel nicer.

my best skating was on small small boards, 159s feel ridiculous to me, after spending time obsessing over 7.5-7.75 boards for the better part of my youth.
i’m not sure why, but i cannot shake that they just feel ‘right’ for an indy. i need to qualify that by noting that i have never got on with 149s. the only indy 149s i had were the koston ones, right when stage 11 came out, and some folks felt they were a little more….stage 10.5. they didn’t feel good, but im a big big baby. if i’m going to skate indys, 159s just feel right, even though my baby legged treflip attempts just crumble.

All the DLX 8.38s I’ve had measured wider but I’ve done the 8.38 + 159 and it’s pretty nice. Very stable and there’s not a lot of hot rod. Don’t pack speed rings in to push the wheels out. you’ll get some extra axle, but it’s all good.

pretty sure Dane Brady can be seen on 159s. style god.

Wimer also a 159er. not ‘my guy’, as far as style goes, but his flip tricks are top tier.
