The whole esthetic is “forgettable-memes-that-high school-football-players-send-each-other.” I can’t remember one skate mental video that mattered.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made bank off those t-shirts and it kept the brand afloat all those years without needing to sell any boards. It's like how Barstool Sports makes millions off of shirts and hats that say "Positive vibes only" that they sell to people that don't care about sports.

I notice he didn’t acknowledge Adrian Del Campos departure either, even after the fix. Wonder if there’s real beef there. I found Staba entertaining for awhile, the jokes with the graphics etc aren’t really my taste but his persona in interviews and stories were pretty funny. Also enjoyed the fakie hard hashtag posts.

Staba can do some things right, but largely does everything else wrong, effectively deserving the Chico punch more and more every day

Curous where Koston lands. I know legacy pros frustrate some people, but Koston is one of those guys who should have his name on a board. He was arguably the top pro for like a decade (Falling Down part until Yeah Right). Granted, I doubt he's relied much on board royalties since like 2008 or even earlier.

I was skating Berkeley Park a few years ago and Staba and Dan Plunkett pulled up. Staba didn't have a board and just lurked around the bowl staring at people. Dan was ripping and super nice. I was skating the bowl and came up onto the deck, looked up and noticed Staba staring at me with a facial expression that read as utter disgust like smelling an egg fart. Continued staring at me until I skated away, very odd and still crosses my mind sometimes

The difference is, Enjoi had the tongue-in-cheek brand identity, underdog reputation and consistent media output to back it up. Skate Mental lacks all of the above.

The other difference is, Enjoi actually sold boards.
To my knowledge I’ve only ever seen 1, maybe 2, Skate Mental boards in in the wild.

I only know what skate mental is because it was in skate 3
