I am quite surprised that no Chinese super bots have entered these olympic qualifiers yet.

Doubtful Chinese government would allow the youth to skate. Being as authoritarian as they are over there, they are probably aware that a corner stone of skate culture is a rejection of authority. Xi Jingping the Phooh dont play dat shit

I heard their TikTok algorithms popularize studying and technology/what not.

What region of the world do you think generates the highest amount of rippers?  Not where most currently live, because they could have moved there, but where on Earth is breeding the best?

Socal seems like an obvious answer, although a little boring.
Florida continually pushes out heavy weights.  Got to be something in that water.
Minneapolis / MN has churned out some beasts.
Wildcard- Vermont.  When I came to Burlington for college back in 2002, I was tripping at the level of skaters at the local.  That was a crazy time for the area in terms of talent.  Also the second least populated state in the US.

I can only really speak to where I've been in the US.  Of course, Japan is proving to be a powerhouse.

As skating continues to grow, for me, the most interesting thing to see are the scenes popping up in unexpected places.

Shoutout Uganda Skateboard Society.

I'm sure we'd all like it to be something else but, come on. So cal has to be the definitive answer, and with good reason: ideal weather, relatively new architecture which can be easier to skate, plenty of skate-related history and culture, abundant skateparks, and the bulk of the industry is located there. I think Florida is a close second and has been slept on historically, but so cal is the answer.

Small towns everywhere. Fuck all to do but skate.

as someone from a small town i disagree, the lack of competition and good spots usually means small town skaters suck compared to kids from the city. also there's the inevitable small town drug spiral which all the talented guys usually end up getting into

Wyoming has a lot of people that rip for its tiny population. They aren’t pro or household names but I must’ve seen .002% residents of the state casually flying around that big bowl in jacksonhole

it's because some of the best guys from small towns move to big cities when they get older. I live in a city and all the best skaters of the scene grew up in small towns and then moved to the city to work or go to college.

Not saying the answer is Norway, but it’s argueable. It’s a pretty damn small country and we got Gustav Tønnesen, Herman Stene, Karsten Kleppan, Deedz, Magnus Bordewick, Heitor Da Silva, Kevin Baekkel, Marcus Shaw, Janno, Tiago Lemos (on loan) and probably more I have forgot.

Not to be rude, but i really think some of you could benefit from googling the term “per capita”.

Take the Chinese for example. Never will they ever have the most pro skaters per capita, because there are literally a billion and a half of them.
Put a gun to my head and ask me to name one Chinese pro skater, and I’d be dead.

I’m guessing the US as a country has the most. But you have an unfair advantage, as you guys pioneered it.
Im too dumb to figure out how to make this drawing my profile pic.

The asscrack of New England - nick dompierre, westgate, barley, zered, Sid abruzzi are all south of Boston. Get closer to Boston and you got PJ, Phelps, Robbie Gangemi, Jahaml Willliams, Matt Pailes, etc

Add Rudeboi Reed, Pupecki, BA, Wrentham "Premium" Outlet Rogers, Aquil "I Rode for Zoo York" Brathwaite, Old School Racist Jim Gagne and lest we forget Anthony "I Just Started Smoking Weed, Have you Tried This Stuff?" Shetler.

Gallant is from West of Boston too, Gallant is all time.

The correct answer is probably Japan, or at least it will be soon. Leave it to the Japanese to take something we created and do it better, what an amazingly proficient culture.

Greco and BA were both born in Connecticut, I believe.  Although I'm not sure what constitutes the entire Asscrack of New England.

Boston/Greater Boston also has Brian Reid, Will Mazzari and I think Kevin Coakley Dana Erickson too.
Probably some of those Fancy Lad wizards as well.

Greater Boston population is just under 5 million.

I just assume New England is one giant asscrack. (As much as I love it here).

I’ve heard Ben Kadow is actually from one of the wealthier counties in CT, just outside NY.

Pretty sure he's from Brewster, NY, which is like a fairly average town on the outskirts of NYC's suburbs

Anyway in terms of places that punch above their weight I echo the people who have mentioned Florida, New Jersey and Sweden.

But we need to run the stats on some of it because Florida has like the third highest population of any US state (20mil or so), and thus it's not really surprising if they produce a lot of talent. I'm not totally convinced they are all that impactful per capita, even if they produce a lot of rippers overall

On the other hand, NJ and Sweden both have relatively small populations (8-10mil), but produce a lot of gnarly skaters.

Another area I would add to the conversation is Orange County CA. Only like 3.5mil but they've produced a ton of the brands and pros we all know. TBH I think they might take the cake
