his foot placement seems counterintuitive for a frontside flip. I had to rewatch it a bunch just to confirm whether he was heelflipping or not. There’s no way I could get my board to flip setting up like that.

I thought the same too. I have kickflipped like this for the past couple of years ever since i started actually trying to do them higher. It prevents rocket flipping. I could frontside flip like this too. It's easier to do with smaller boards (7.5-7.75) and size 13 shoes. You really have no choice.

My favorite skaters are edgy androgynous teenagers in highwater pants and ironic thrift store sweater vests flailing their way through ride-on grinds while 100 Gecs blasts in the background, it's just so much more real and raw.
It's so try-hard how this guy is all hyper-talented and having fun and shit.
