American political discussions are so depressing^
You are not even talking about anything you are just trying to make the other side look worse!
This is the major problem with the American two-party system — no compromise is needed, just majority. And until a major third party comes along it will be like this again and again.
Prior to Trump’s first administration, there used to be some reaching across the aisle when it came to some issues but now, you can see why Trump and GOP were pushing mid-term redistricting because with Congressional majority in both the House and Senate, there’s no need to reach across the aisle — it’s about getting power and staying in power.
Also, Why are these monopolies not broken up?
In a rudimentary reasoning: Lassiez-Faire. The belief of little to no Government interference in business. Also combined with the 90s ruling led by Mitch McConnell to let more money into politics by allowing corporate lobbying simply let these businesses buy their way into legislation.
Look at Kyrsten Sinema who ran to help the people, took corporate money, and all her decisions as a Senator were based on who funded her campaign. Basically a huge 180 of her promises when on the campaign trail.
It’s why tobacco, oil, NRA, etc., can get away with so much, because they can effect the economy and people’s political future. Campaigning is hard and expensive, so people who work for their corporate lobby get to stay in power and once there, no longer needing to listen to the people they represent. Much like why those who take 6/7-figure donations from the NRA are also the ones who are the quickest to move on from gun violence and kill any kind of gun legislaton. Same with those who take money from Oil — fighting climate control and environmental laws and regulation.
Both sides should agree to this.
Bernie Sanders delivered a lecture that best described this in the early 2000s, that the best way to pass the legislation you want is to divide people on every issue, no matter how small. Keeping the people divided is a distraction that has us constantly at each other’s throats.
