Obituaries for the recently Ban-Hammered
« on: December 12, 2024, 12:34:23 AM »
The purpose of this topic is to discuss the legitimate past contributions of banned users.
To remember them in a better light than the one they left us in.
"Hate the sin but love the sinner"

You should be highlighting their topics and posts that brought something worthwhile to this community.

This is not a place to debate the mod's decisions or complain about bans, you understand the terms of participation.

What happened to @SneakySecrets ?
Last I saw he made some kind of celebratory post about Trump winning but that's gone now.

Also I don't understand what the banned profile pic is for yet he's being "watched".
I think I've seen "moderated" as the next level of warning.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Id like to hear from sneaky too. He brought a diverse perspective and thinking man's threads. I believe he was banned for dunking on liberals when Trump was declared victorious.

No, despite that being particularly obnoxious, it was for using the “R” word.

the mods should really be consistent and change all 'R' words to 'person' like they have been doing. theres posts where they seemingly ignored it's usage, or playing favorites since those people didnt get watched or banned

i linked a video to a south park clip of mrs.garrison saying the r word. should they have just dropped the hammer on me too? either way stoked on my lil badge. ya'll will never be me. you don't even know im him.

Thanks for the info.
We must accept the terms of conduct here in exchange for access to all the content and resources each poster contributes.
While I have no problem reading anyone's opinions despite how much I disagree with them or how they choose to word themselves, I understand the mods have power to censor and have a responsibility to wield it according to certain standards. I wonder if he anticipated a ban or invited it with that post.

I just figured out what your pic is. I'll be listening to that Faust album soon, thanks for putting it out there.

I spent the evening skimming through each of Sneaky's threads. I regret not making an effort to reach out.
I think we are about the same age, 43. I had a lot of appreciation for the fun thought provoking threads.
Not too many people here with that kind of imagination. He embraced weird.

Here are a few gems I'll be looking further into.

Found Footage

True Crime

French Revolution

The Leave it Here vid

What if clothes were people
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

These last two really struck me, I felt real kinship

Have you ever called into a Radio Show?
I have been listening to KNOX grand forks every weekday now for a few months and participate in their chatroom.
My friend had moved back home three years ago. He began calling in and eventually became a regular, "J money"
I have called a couple times but I enjoy the chat because it gives me time to organize thoughts, I'm not great off the cuff under pressure to be entertaining for a couple minutes.
He on the other hand can be a shit stirrer but I love him.
During my last visit he arranged to have us sit in on an hour long segment with a host and we fielded questions from regulars. I am working on getting a recording of the segment but I'll post a call soon.

Skateboard Jeopardy Show!

Finally, I present to you the dare he put forward to SLAP.
I watched the whole thing.
What the Hell is this?

@Sneaky, If you're still lurking, hit me up. I'd like those three sheets of paper.

The internet was so much more lively and interesting in the early-mid 2000’s when people could say whatever they wanted to each other on a message board. All this current state of things does is create delusional echo chambers and fragile minds. The effects of constant babysitting and censorship are much more damaging, and I feel bad for people who are either too young or too stubborn to admit this. The real world catches up eventually anyway…

there are plenty of places where it's acceptable to say whatever you want to say.

the only time I ever hear this argument is when it's coming from people who want to say things that oppressed groups have generally explained why and asked us to not say.

I'm just a white dude, I like girls, I'm not really poor anymore, and i said all kinds of dumb shit in the early 00s. I imagine though, that the so-called liveliness of people using the N word, the F word, the R word, the T word, etc didn't feel so lively or awesome to those who were determined by the dominant society to be members of those groups. It's weird that people are complaining about not being about the be mean on the internet. do you, but we know better and don't need to be jerks

Nah yall have banned people for wild shit, not you personally but you know, it's really wack and we've lost some of the best soldiers to mod pettiness

I plan on the next decade having something similar but way more chill on the moderation

I really miss oppisite sided discussions and arguments

on one hand, i think of gip when he said he didn't think anyone should be banned for the things they say. BUT then i think of people saying senselessly harsh shit to tay. iounno. glad it's not my call. but if we aren't allowed to say a word, just don't allow it to be posted. doesn't take a mod team to do that.

my brain is still in 2015/2016 when it comes to slap lore. idk if he focused or got banned but "bawtard" comes to mind. i remember him posting about how he won lotto and bought a yellow lambo i think... id like to believe hes just out there cruising off into the sunset.

an idiot, but a very entertaining one at times.

interesting to come back and see banned avatars, and like titles or notes on specific posters here now though.

I have asked for mods to explain the consequences of being banned because I’ve been confused by the effect it had.
I’m sure I’ve seen someone get their pic replaced yet their last active info would show they’d been here post “ban”. Sneaky is being watched but not moderated if I’m not mistaken.
(I don’t see the status on mobile, only pc)
Could you explain the restrictions? Are those banned still allowed to lurk but blocked from further posting?

The "watched" label is from a previous infraction. It remains in place even after a ban. The "banned" avatar is applied automatically after a ban. Banned users are not allowed to lurk or post with their account.

I don't get the urge to force hateful opinions on people in every corner of the internet. I'm sure most LGBTQ, POC, and other users are happy that they don't have to deal with that stuff here in the same measure that they do elsewhere on the internet or in their offline lives. If that offends you, tough.

I expected the first response to completely miss the point so I wasn’t disappointed. A typical canned response of “you just want to say the n-word.” People get banned on here for saying things that are objectively true, but mods will brand it as some kind of hate speech. Censorship has made people completely lose touch with reality. An adult that tells you Santa Claus isn’t real is not a jerk. They’re just correct.

And the fact that you think free speech just means “saying the n word f word,” etc means you have no idea what it looks like to have an honest debate or see ideas exchanged freely without a cowardly mod to come in and protect you from it.

Why are you pretending to be arguing in good faith? You're not here for an exchange of ideas. You're just sore because you can't say what you want to say.

This is a private forum, not speaker's corner or whatever. You're not guaranteed free speech. Also, the bans you mentioned were ultimately for antivaxxers and people who celebrated or condoned war crimes. So I don't feel sad that they're gone.
