Every time I see a shuv or 180 out of a nose manual or nosegrind, I always think that they werent confident enough to go straight out

Also are old guys really standing around for the board toss? Don’t you guys have wheelbases, woodshop and number of colored plies to worry about?

I think this same thing about crooked grinds.

I have 3 friends who have to 180 or shuv out of crooks. Can't come straight out no matter how hard they try.

idk if it's unpopular or not but whenever someone who doesn't skate anymore at all, or even makes an effort to, throws the once a skater always a skater trope, for the most part i think they're full of shit

what even is a skater these days

but i know life happens and i'm being a sourpuss rn and prob change my mind later

The freestyle conspiracy is still going.

Listening to Steve Douglas on the Nine Club I learnt that Jean Marc Vaisette owns a big distributor in France, and Hazze Lindgren owns the main distribritution in Sweden. To add to Reggie Barnes (east coast USA), Kevin Harris (Canada), and Rocco, Mullen, Per Welinder, Frank Messman, Don Brown, Pierre Andre, Jeremy Fox etc

And in Germany two other freestylers started a distribution in the early 90s, too. They broke away from Titus who dominated the German market as distributor and effectively split it. Apparently the freestyler back then were a closed knit circle.

Gear left at the park is for kids to take and use. It's a bad look to be an adult snatching up used boards at the local. If you're a legal adult, you should just buy gear from the skate shop.

[close]

Also if you're older than teenage stay the fuck out the product toss.

I used to do board tosses. I did get pissed at a 20 something twice.
If you’re that hard up and I’m blessed with boards just ask for one on the side. Let the kids have the product toss.

I think of it like this.

Once a skater always a skater but it takes about 18m to 1y to actually be skating again if your a weekend warrior after a long long break from it.

Myself I wasn’t skating from 02-16 tho I always had a board with me. Mainly cuz I had two sets of soft wheels and one pair of trucks that entire time.
But once you’ve put over a decade on a board. Like day in day out.
I won’t let you lie to anyone about no longer being a skater. You’re just not currently skating.

Sorry g. Stop telling lies

It’s permanent ill out you to the ladies or whatever.

So basically a skater but you ain’t skating

I didn’t skate for 3 years because of an injury and a disabled family member that I took care of.  People would ask “are you still skating” in that time frame and I’d have to be like “not really”, but actually the reason is because my body and life were both in shambles lol

But the whole time I was doing physical therapy and staying in shape solely so I could skate again so I considered myself a skater during that time but as an adult I didn’t care about what people think enough that I’d lie and say I’m still skating.  The point is you never know who actually still wants it

I think the reliance on to fakie/shove out is because the trick isn't being done strongly enough to resist turning towards noseslide. Like the ledge won the battle and you got away with it by turning out.

Excellent part. I always appreciated his style.

Love the first line of kickflip up the kerb, 360 flip the flat gap then nollie off.
And the first line at 3rd+army has another absolutely great 360 flip, followed by a mannual up some wood then popped into a frontside noseslide. That felt quite ahead of its time.

He's got plenty of clips there in this part including a great double flip. Fakie five-0 the curved ledge filmed from the other side of the white pipe always stuck with me too.

That bs 180 nosegrind and nose manual shove nosemannual both at Pier 7 rule too.

First part of his I saw after seeing Mouse, was super bummed seeing his knee get fucked in Hot Chocolate.

“Crooked grind-to fakie: Seriously? Look, you already got the front truck up there. And you just gone fall back? How do you do that? Would you put your foot on a fence, leave your back foot dangling and try to lay on your back after jumping over it? Exactly. So, why would you do this trick? Smarten up.” - Clyde Singleton

This thread is giving me the skateboarding equivalent of an eating disorder

Clyde wrote a Big Brother product review about some wax brand that fucked my young brain up forever, he went on and on about how ridiculous and insulting the very concept of skate wax is and mocked anyone who may feel otherwise as soft and slow. Just skate faster, he said. Fast forward 20 years and I still never have wax on me. But I also don't skate very fast.

Not waxing a ledge but expecting it to slide/grind just by going faster is probably one of the dumbest myths in skateboarding.

Great shout, yes! Watching it in my youth it was a while before I noticed it was an actual diegetic sound, my brain just sort of accepted it was part of the music/sound of the part.

even as a dumb little kid who knew nothing about skateboarding for some odd reason i really liked mike york's part back when YR! came out and had it on repeat a lot, all around very enjoyable imo. my friends didn't understand why i loved it so much and neither did i. same with gino and chico.

What little footage he had in YR was pretty memorable. Nollie inward heelflip a picnic table set up on those planter ledges with a ramp to it (the one Gino bs flips over without a table set in it).
That Choco montage was my introduction to him, as well as the last thing I ever saw from him.

My unpopular opinion is that no matter how hard I try, I can only readily dig Indys in very specific applications and I just have a sort of distaste for them. Aces feel better to me if I need shorter WB and tighter turns.
that would be crazy if your skin was made of hammers.
